(for pure ll verse) what are your thoughts on the jjba protagonists and who's your fav jojo?
Fumie practically gasped at the question just asked. “R-r-r-really!?”
“D-d-d-d-do you really wanna know what I think of JoJo’s protagonists!? A-alright! Well…!” she cleared her throat.
“Jonathan has a really special place in my heart… like any good fan, I started from the beginning! Such a gentleman, the paragon of the kind-hearted shounen hero! The man who can love and forgive everything, the kindest JoJo of them all by far, easily! I’ll admit, Phantom Blood isn’t terribly exciting compared to the rest, but how can you not admire a man like Jonathan Joestar!? Did you know the ‘Justice’ clock in Great Days is meant to symbolize him? His relationship with Dio, and the quest to defeat him is something I’ve memorized by heart! I like to imagine the entire Joestar bloodline’s sense of justice is something inherited by the Joestar family, all from Jonathan’s incredible sense of righteousness! It really upsets me he didn’t play a bigger roll beating Heaven Ascension DIO in Eyes of Heaven...”
“Joseph is one of my favorites, though! He’s such a contrast from Jonathan in all the right ways! He’s rude, snarky, impatient, brash, immature… but he still has that sense of justice burning in him: the legacy of that bloodline! I kinda wish he had used his Clackers more to have a unique fighting style, but! His Hamon, the way he fights and thinks on his toes… love it love it love it! I just…” Fumie frowned. “I wish Stardust Crusaders had been a lot kinder to him! Hermit Purple is the perfect Stand for conducting Hamon: he did it when fighting DIO, but he got like, no serious fighting time, honestly! At least the video games fix that… ahh, though, Joseph is one of Araki’s best JoJos easily! If I wasn’t gay, I wouldn’t have minded being his girlfriend or something…”
“And then there’s our series’ mascot: Kujo Jotaro! You know, I’m gonna be honest. I wasn’t… really too fond of Jotaro when I first read Stardust Crusaders when I was 9. I just don’t like it when these stoic guys are the main protagonists. I think it would’ve worked better if Polnareff’s and Jotaro’s personalities were switched… but, eh. Everyone loves super many stuff, I guess… I loved him in Diamond Is Unbreakable though! I just think he works better as a main supporting character than THE star platinum of the show. But, you know, we owe a lot to him! The juvenile delinquent highschooler with the heart of gold: that was a thing Jotaro started! One of my other favorite animes and mangas is Yu Yu Hakusho: and I loved Yusuke as a juvenile delinquent protagonist, so he’s got a place in my heart too!”
“Did you know Josuke is Araki-sama’s favorite JoJo? And its easy to see why! Josuke is a lot different from all the other JoJos: he’s the only one who doesn’t really have a big world-changing adventure… well, along with his Part 8 counterpart. I adore Diamond Is Unbreakable! Its almost like shounen meets slice of life! Sure, Kira winning would’ve been bad for Morioh: but nowhere near as bad as the likes of DIO, Kars, and Diavolo winning over their heroes. Morioh is just such a lovely little town. The sense of ‘community’ is highlighted by Josuke as a hero. Josuke may not be this epic hero who’s quest changes the world like Joseph, Giorno, Jolyne, and Jonathan… but that’s what makes him so great! He’s like… your big brother, or your upperclassman who’ll protect you! I… I wanna say Josuke is my second favorite JoJo! Whenever someone makes fun of a pompadour, I wanna pap ‘em in Josuke’s honor! I remember I once told my papa if I ever had a big brother, I’d want them to be like Josuke or Okuyasu!”
“Ahhh, GioGio! Girono is one of the more interesting protagonists to me, even though I didn’t really like Part 5 too much -not that I haven’t read if ten times-! He’s like… a mixture between Jonathan and DIO! Having the former’s gentleness and sense of justice towards his allies, combined with DIO’s brutality towards his enemies! He’s an anti-hero and I love him, no matter what I think of his Bizarre Adventure! His seven page beatdown of Cioccolata is one of my favorite moments in the series! Definitely the worst JoJo to piss off… but deep down, I think he also has that inherited justice from Jonathan. A truly golden heart, despite it all. I love him, and I want to hug him, like very JoJo, and I want to have a dinner party with him.”
“My gay little heart loved everything about Jolyne! Her design, her personality, her adventure! I love how Stone Free was like the Ability-type Stands of Steel Ball Run! The ability to unravel herself into string was so cool, and the way she used it to go out of situations!.It really stood out to me about how most other Stands were mostly all about Stand rushing, punching you into oblivion… and while Jolyne certainly liked to ORAORAORAORA, I loved how its defining power wasn’t strictly combat oriented! Jolyne and her story was just…”
She actually teared up a bit. “I… I was really sad when she was erased and replaced with Irene… Like, really, really upset. She was… one of the first female protagonists I really liked. I didn’t really watch Sailor Moon or Cardcaptor Sakura, or shoujo shows -I mean I love those now, but magical girls wasn’t something I got into until after JJBA- so there was something about Jolyne that… meant a lot to me. A lot.”
“… That makes her my favorite no matter what. She was the first hero I felt like I really looked up to.”
“Johnny was also unique! He wasn’t really an anti-hero, but he wasn’t very heroic either. I love Tusk’s uniqueness among main protagonist Stands! I love the Ability-type Stands of Part 7 in general, but Tusk! Tusk is my favorite main protagonist Stand in the franchise, already! Chumimi~in! Johnny’s growth from only doing it to walk again to doing what was right… I feel like Johnny had the most growth amongst the main protagonists of the series, honestly. Personally, he’s probably my second favorite. God, I never got over what a DICK his dad was!”
“And then there’s JoJolion Josuke! Now I love this guy, and I love JoJolion! Its the most bizarre adventure by far: and its still ongoing and I get to enjoy it every month! Josuke is the weirdest protagonist, and I love it! His discovery for his own identity, and to break the curse around him and the fight against the Rock Humans…! Hehe, since is still ongoing, I can’t completely judge him… but if things keep going the way it is, he might take Johnny’s spot as my second favorite!
“… I don’t get to talk about this stuff often, so…
“… Thank you. It was… a lot of fun!”
