What she means: Dutch Van Der Linde’s descent into madness was well done. He was always a murdering manipulative bastard but he had principles, as many as an outlaw could have. And you can see he’s getting increasingly pressed right from the start, what with everyone looking at him to get them out. But he never really goes full throttle until Hosea dies. Hosea acts like Dutch’s voice of reason, he’s Dutch’s confidente. There’s one point where you hear the both of them talking, and Dutch admits that he’s really worried. Then Hosea dies, Dutch is straining under the weight of the Pinkertons up their asses, getting everyone out, having no right hand man because Arthur starts doubting him because Dutch’s principles are flying out the fucking window, he’s making shit up on the fly, and he makes mistakes he never would have before. Which leaves room for Micah to come in. And it’s not that Micah manipulates Dutch, because he’s not smart enough for that, but he constantly goads him in the worst ways. And then, at the very end, you get Dutch, who always has a plan and always manages to talk his way out and around things, struck literally silent.
