It is a common mistake, and one could be forgiven for making it- that the stormcloud and the sun are mortal enemies that wage war for dominion of the skies. It is not so. The sun beam lends its heat to the earth, and pulls water into the atmosphere, where she gives it as a gift to her beloved storm. The storm only grows stronger and fiercer the more the sunbeam gives to her. And the sunbeam is a generous lover, for she is so taken with the untamable beauty and the wild energy of the stormcloud’s dancing.

Not enemies at war, then, but lovers in a dance. And when they come together in an embrace the sunlight refracts against the crystal raindrops in the stormcloud’s hair, and the arc of a rainbow can be seen, the visible evidence of the love between them.
