cutest sisters ever
why i don’t care about “knetz” and neither should you
we have no idea what korean internet users are actually saying about these articles.
firstly, companies often write their own comments as anonymous users. they specifically say something nice (or something negative if its a competing group!) just to sway pubic opinion.
secondly, most translations of comments come from netizenbuzz, who is notorious for deliberately picking biased results in order to fit whatever narrative she wants to portray. she chooses the extremely negative and outlandish ones so that more of you international fans will visit her site and leave comments about how all “knetz” are evil, giving netizenbuzz more web traffic and ad revenue.
thirdly, the korean language is very difficult to translate into english and mistranslations happen all the time. recently jaebum from got7 said something along the lines “stop teasing me or i’ll punch you” but it was translated as “i’ll beat you up,” which has the same general meaning but a much harsher tone. as such everyone called him a homophobe and called for his death. even irene said something like “i’m going to marry a man” which was translated as “marriage has to be with a man” and then everyone called her a homophobe and probably called for her death too.
you ever read english comments anywhere on the internet? they’re pretty terrible. i see a lot of slurs, death threats, and hateful ideology thrown around there, but nobody goes around grouping all of them into one group and saying they’re terrible. don’t lump all koreans into a monolith.
it’s just stupid. why do you care what they think? youtube comments are always a waste of time reading save for the occasional funny one, but i’ve never seen any funny comments. why don’t you all care that much about my posts? i’m hilarious
it’s fundamentally offensive to make broad sweeping generalizations about how awful knetz are. they’re just korean people who use the internet. it’s called kpop for a reason: its made by and for koreans. it’s pretty offensive to say “wow, the people for whom this music is actually produced are a bunch of demons!” we should be a lot more respectful of koreans when we’re consuming their pop culture.
so in short, next time you start typing something about “knetz,” just delete what you’ve written and type something nice about your favorite kpop group instead.
Ok but there are also lots of lovely translation sites as well, even here on tumblr like @netzonexo who recently even installed disqus on their EXO translations. For those translations, which are harmless and meant to bring smiles, it’s a way for international fans and cfans and kfans etc to sort of…unite(?) you could say lol, and you realize how not so different they are from normal ifans.
Sites like netizenbuzz, kpkf, peachisoda etc should DEFINITELY be taken with a grain of salt tho, or preferably not visited at all with the amount of bullshit they spew
The game is changing
