Some Oddworld lore uncovered
(Keep in mind, this is all Original Quintology lore, sourced from things like the old Oddworld website, TFTY, and Abe's Origins. The SoulStorm timeline is seperate from the lore listed here.)
Skillya is actually enslaved, just like Sam is. The difference is that she just doesn't care, because she hates her children and gets pampered.
Skillya has TV dinners constantly provided to her and watches TV fot the majority of the day.
Skillya loves ugly jewelry and tacky decor and has it all over her chamber. It looks like a thrift store in there.
Two types of Sligs take care of her, "Skimmers" and "Fluffers". Skimmers fish the babies out of the birthing pools Skillya lays in, and Fluffers spend the say fluffing the hundreds of ugly pillows Skillya lays on.
Despite her typical attitude towards her offspring, Lady Margaret has an affection for her successful children. She had a positive relationship with Molluck before the events of Oddysee.
She doesn't seem consider her children to be her children unless they can make her proud enough to acknowledge them. Assumedly with wealth.
The Uggae Estate (Maggie's family) and the Magog Cartel are seperate entities. Maggie, while the source of many Glukkons, is seemingly more of a representative or a posterchild for the cartel, and not actually in charge of it.
Once Maggie is barren, she will be rejected by the Glukkons and cast aside. She is a slave to herself and her worth is determined by her fertility.
Sams choice to abandon her children was a difficult one. After the Glukkons and Sligs robbed her of her tribe, her home, and imprisoned her, she had two choices; obey their demands and lay eggs so that although her children would be inslaved they would still have a chance to live, or refuse to obey their demands and have her and her unborn children all killed.
While Sams eggs are removed from her after being laid, at the time Abe was hatched it seems she was still hatching and nursing them herself. This cuased her great stress and trauma when her children were taken from her, which likely effected her ability to produce eggs, so the system was changed.
When RuptureFarms blew up and Mudokons started disappearing, the demand for labour grew substantially. It's likely this is why Sams eggs started being sold to factories by SlaveAid directly in bunches.
Sam is dying. She is very old and has layed 1000s of eggs. She is hooked on pain medications and the Shrink AI prescribed to her is aware that she's on her way out.
Mudokons do not just exist on Mudos. While they are the aboriginal species of Mudos, there are Mudokon tribes all over Oddworld. However, the native tribes on Mudos are the most ancient and seem to be in the most imminent danger of industrial razing.
Native Mudokons are incredibly prejudice and distrusting towards industry-born Mudokons, and vice versa. The Native tribes do not trust Mudokon slaves at all and consider them to be a different species. They do not consider them bretherin. The Glukkons are, understandably, very glad that the natives think this way, because they use it as propaganda to trick the slaves into thinking that the Glukkons give them a better life than the natives would.
Mudokons freed from slavery have an incredibly hard time adapting to the life of the tribal villages. Brew addiction recovery aside, industry-born Mudokons have no experience living in the wild. They don't know how to hunt or fight. They don't know their heritage nor their culture because they are so far removed. They have to learn all of it and the native Mudokons are not entirely kind to them about it.
Industry-born Mudokons are fed propaganda that native Mudokons are foolish and stupid for rejecting the "gifts" that the industrialists have provided. They think that they should be thankful that they are even allowed to work for the Glukkons, that they are a weak species, and that they deserve nothing more than the role they have been forced into.
NOT ALL MUDOKONS IN FACTORIES ARE BORN INTO SLAVERY. In certain factories like RuptureFarms and Necrum Mines, labour is indeed provided by Mudokon Queens on "comission" like Sam, whose eggs are sold/contracted in bulk. But a good chunk of enslaved Mudokon workers were simply lured in with a brew addiction, as shown in Exoddus. Mudokons lured in with Brew become so addicted that they abandon their former free life with ease, and oftentimes forget about it completely.
Mudokon slaves hatched from Labour Eggs are considered expendable. Casualties in factories are common.
The reason Abe has to give passwords and whatnot to the natives in Oddysee is not wholly because of the trials, it's because they straight up don't trust or like him at first glance because he's industry-born. Big Face trusts the prophecy though, and that's why he's desperately rooting for Abe and trying to convince everyone to give him a chance.
Abe was beyond stressed while doing the trials, because while he was no longer locked in RuptureFarms he wasn't yet accepted by the tribes either. He felt displaced for a long while.
Abe is REALLY not thrilled about the pressure everyone puts on him. He's incredibly stressed and miserable about it.
Abe, despite being free of his slavery, does not feel free at all. The pressure of being Messiah and the fact he is the vessel of Shrykull makes him feel he still does not have free will.
The reason Abe does not really express excitement for his own achievements is because he feels they are simply his responsibility/duty and he simply needs to do as he is guided.
Obvious lore at this point, but Abe's lips were sewn shut by sam because it was common practice for the runt of a Mudokom egg clutch to be executed by Sams captors.
Abes ability to possess other creatures is called "Astra Kata", and is an ancient practice that even the most devoted Mudokon shamans take years to master the ability to do for mere seconds.
Alf has dementia, likely something akin to Korsakoff syndrome and was perhaps caused by both his Brew addiction and his vitamin deficient diet at RuptureFarms. This has effected him greatly, and has caused him to have both false memories and memory loss, making him a very unreliable source of information.
Alf has a hard time with staying off the Brew, and has repeatedly broken his sobriety, but he keeps trying for the sake of his buddies.
Alf is a bit Glukkon-minded and is a bit too attracted to moolah. He also uses his status as Abe's friend for street cred on occasion.
Alf has an incredibly short temper and is very on edge whenever he tries quitting Brew. He will become angry over the simplest things, and actually become physically violent if bothered during these outbursts.
Alf's favourite song is "Feeco-Razy Train". Likely a parody of Crazy Train by Ozzy Osborne.
Gabbits are considered the Dodo Birds of oddworld. They had no natural predators in the water before their eggs were considered a delicacy. Their entire culture is quite literally "they like to swim and play and have fun".
Gabbits are incredibly social with one another. Being alone is just not in their DNA.
Munch is pretty much just a kid. Gabbits age like dogs, and Munch is only 2.
Munch canonically has to fertilize the Gabbit eggs on his own or else they'll never hatch. Odd knows if he even knows how to do this.
Steef are migratory, nomadic, and have a natural desire to protect vulnerable tribes.
Steef are entirely native to Mudos.
Steef were apex predators before industrialists began hunting them for game.
Before Stranger was aware of the whole scope of the situation with the Grubbs and Sekto, he genuinley felt he had no purpose in life other than his natural instinct of staying alive.
Scrabs and Paramites weren't always so naturally hostile to Mudokons, but they have become incredibly territorial due to their status as an endangered species.
Fuzzles are sometimes kept as pets by eccentric folks and are groomed like purse dogs to be decorative pets.
Glukkons are incredibly prone to lung cancer.
The Glukkons are the most influential of the Octigi family of species. There is a subspecies of Oktigi called Hexagi, that has six arms instead of eight.
It's not uncommon for Glukkons to do manual labour themselves when they cannot afford labour hands. They do the bare minimum though as their bodies are not typically designed for labour. The moment they have access to Sligs or Mudokons, they don't do shit themselves.
Molluck was the CEO of both the RuptureFarms 1029 plant and the Soulstorm Brewery we see in Exoddus. Brewmaster was simply the Brewmaster. He did not own the business, he was just in charge of operations.
In RuptureFarms, a healthy life is literally impossible. In the wild, if healthy, Mudokon workers can live for up to a hundred years if not more. In RuptureFarms, most Mudokon workers kick the bucket at about age 40. Be it from living in a toxic waste meat plant, succumbing to brew or lungbuster addictions, factory accidents, or simply just depression leading to.. yknow.
Molluck's first job was managing a Flub Fuels station. He worked his way up the corporate ladder and came to own multiple businesses.
Molluck's favourite cigar brand is called "Surprisingly Swisher Sweet". He aspires to start his own Cigar business.
Aslik's first job was stocking bottles at a brewery.
Aslik was Molluck's "second in command" and assumed charge in Mollucks absence. Nobody was happy about this. At all.
Aslik has a book called "I, Aslik" where he discusses how he became so successful as a businessman.
Aslik loves fancy clothes and interior decorating. He has multiple massive framed photos of himself in his office.
General Dripik is described as a coward, who is all bark and no bite.
Vykkers are sadomasochists. Their self-imposed body modifications on themselves and others can be a fetish for them.
While the Glukkons consider themselves "good guys" in their own eyes, the Vykkers are aware of their own viciousness and pride themselves on being seen as evil.
Vykkers will surgically remove/mess with the body parts of other species just for fun. They enjoy forcibly augmenting creatures even if there's no scientific gain, they just enjoy watching creatures suffer.
