one’s blind and falls in love with the other’s voice AU

It’s never hard to distinguish which of her girlfriends is around.
Her favourite spot in the house is her kitchen, outfitted with Braille labels on all her ingredients, touch guides on her countertops, and timers and tools that help her to cook and bake whatever it is she wants. Her service dog Lemon is a big help as well.
She’s rolling out pie dough when Cherry gets home from her shift at the lab. The door is opened slowly and deliberately, a soft ‘I’m home, dear’ called out into the hallways. Cherry’s voice is measured and even, but with a soft, almost musical lilt Jamie has always loved.
Sometimes she’ll ask Cherry to read out her recipes, just to listen to her.
“Hi babe,” Jamie calls, putting more effort into rolling out her pie dough. “How was your day?”
“It went very well,” Cherry replies, her voice louder now that she is in the kitchen. Jamie feels a soft hand on her hip and pauses, tilting her head down so Cherry can kiss her cheek. “Did you have a good day?”
“It was like, okay,” Jamie laughs, resuming her work. “Nothing to write home about.”
The door swings open moments later, the clatter of keys on a lanyard jangling, and Lucy’s voice carries through the hallways to the kitchen.
“Lucks, listen, we’ll be there, promise. All three of us,” she says boisterously, and Jamie sighs with a smile.
Lucy’s voice is warm and bright, like an autumn campfire full of life. She has a way of commanding attention with that warm voice, of making one feel like they’re the only person in the world. Jamie loves when Lucy speaks, with a light, smoky rasp. She always feels at home with her.
“Yeah, yeah, we’re driving up on Friday. Yep, uh-huh, see ya. Love ya,” Lucy adds, hanging up the phone with a tap of a finger against glass. “Jam, Cherry, I have had such a day. Take-out?”
Jamie smiles, leaning on the countertop as she listens to her girlfriends decide on where to order in from. Lucy’s smoky voice defends the new Indian place, while Cherry’s soft, firm tone selects a tried-and-true restaurant. Jamie can’t help but smile as she goes back to rolling out her pie dough, feeling Lemon lean against her leg.
She loves these girls with all her heart.
