Gai glanced over at Kai as they walked up the drive of his house. It had been a few months since Kai had transferred to the school, and they had become friends. Their science teacher had allowed them to pick their partners for the latest project, and they had automatically picked to work with each other. Gai had offered his house as the place for them to work on the project together, so here they were.
He got up to the door and stepped inside, calling, “Jiiya, Kai’s over for us to work on our science project.” He looked back at Kai and smiled, gesturing for him to come in.
Kai smiled back at Gai as he followed him inside.
The two had become rather close friends since the beginning of the year and Kai couldn’t be happier than that.
Gai opened his mouth and was about to say something to Kai when he heard approaching footsteps. However, they were most definitely not Jiiya’s... because that was definitely the clack of heels. He turned, a slightly nervous smile on his face as he turned to face the approaching woman. “Mother! I didn’t think you were going to be back so early!”
Kaori smiled at her son. “I got lucky, and the board meeting finished early. Your father is out in the garage working on his bike.” She tilted her head to look around Gai at Kai. “So this is Kai? Hello there! I’m Gai’s mother. You can call me Kaori if you want!”
