Reflection

When I signed up for MDD410 I didn’t really know what to expect. I thought it might go deeper into coding or graphic design, but I wasn’t pleasantly surprised to realize it was a class about hypothetical s in technology and what it will look like in the future. This allowed me to speak about things I believed would happen in the future while learning what others thought as well

I learned a good amount from this class. Seeing what others thought would be good ideas for the future, where others disagreed on, and hearing some fresh new outlooks. Even dabbling with AR mock ups, simple 3D objects that can be sent to be printed if you don’t have your own 3D printer, and much more. This class allowed me to do simple tasks that left me with my own imagination. Even with my final project for this class, it was something simple and minimal but its something I truly believe will happen in the future as technology always tries to make our lives easier in any way possible.

One thing I took away from this class is to try new things. It doesn’t have to be big, or super detailed, but it allows you to take inspiration from other places that help you with the stuff you already know. The AR lessons alone helped me think of new ways it could be applied to everyday uses. While we did cover a lot, 3D and AR stuck with me the most as they are already subjects I am interested in and this class expanded on that.

VR advancement

VR for the public has changed a lot over the decade. Usually for people that had tons of money to spend for both a high quality computer just to be able to run VR, and the large amount of money for VR kits like Vive or Oculus Rift, not many people had access to it. But now even smartphones are capable of some form of VR, even though the best quality is still on the computer.

Many different games, and apps have emerged because of VR. One such “app” is VRChat, a simple program were people use an avatar of there choice and allows them to socialize in various rooms and it allows them to meet new people. People have created games, customized avatars, and events all from VRChat.

While this allows a form of socialization, movement, facial features, hand gestures, and many normal body functions are limited because of technology. But every year its made a little better from companies and enthusiasts alike. One video that I stumbled upon on Twitter showed off hand tracking for VR, which allows for users to actually use their hands instead of pressing a button. This simple thing can make so many changes. Changes like this is what gets me so excited to see what VR has to hold for us in the future.

Fad or Trend

Do you know the difference between a fad and a trend? I certainly didn’t before I had to do this assignment so I’m gonna go over what I learned.

Fad

While you can’t tell the difference between the two in the beginning, fads come and go quickly within a short amount of time. Think internet memes, you could consider these a fad in a sense since a single meme comes and goes usually within a few weeks. A great example of a fad would be PDAs (Personal Digital Assistant), for those of you that don’t remember or even heard of them, PDAs were mini mobile computers. These were before smartphones and tablets, so at the time they were a fun and new piece of technology, but they honestly didn’t do that much. It was mostly to do small tasks like write notes and emails, store contact lists and the like. Since the world wasn’t as interconnected as it is now, PDAs weren’t connected as much as out smart devices now.

Trends

Trends and fads start off in very similar manners, but the difference is trends last way longer than fads. Trends usually stick around for years and can help mold whatever the trend is applied to. You can probably thing of a trend for some of your favorite hobbies or interests. There has been many different trends in tech over the last decade that we still are using today, and they don’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Making many devices or appliances “smart” has been one. Doorbells, watches, fridges, washers and dryers are some things that just 15 years ago you would never of thought would be something you could be connected to with your computer, much less your phone. Apps like Uber, Lyft, Grubhub, DoorDash, and the like are all a trend as it allows for people to earn money regardless of experience, and for people to get a service for a bit cheaper.

There will continue to be fads and trends in the future, the most we can do is figure out what is here to stay, and what is going.

Resources for Keeping Current on Emerging Technology

World is always having new technology released everyday, and a lot of it you probably haven’t heard of. With so many advancements over the last decade alone, its hard to keep track of what is being released to the public. Countless websites try to keep everyone up to date, so here are just a few that can help you keep track of emerging technologies.

TechNewsWorld is a site that isn’t as mainstream as most news sites. Just looking at the design of the site, it looks it could use a few updates visually but it keeps itself up to date with the most current tech news. This link above is one such article. AR is something the public has gotten more familiar with over the years as many more apps and games have used AR as a main feature. Apple wants to make AR glasses by 2021-2022. Going over features of the glasses and what it can achieve if used properly.

Gizmodo offers a lot as it covers news for any category of technology. This specific article goes over something we are very familiar with, but in a new light, wearable technology. We are already familiar with smartwatches and all they do, well now smart rings are starting to become a reality. While it doesn’t have as many features as watches would, they can track your sleep, health, and other various functions that are shown to be useful. These rings look just like normal rings, so you could wear one as a legit fashion accessory. This article goes over what rings can do, why they are now starting to become more successful this year, differences between rings, and prices.

Nothing too specific on this site but I thought I should share. Techradar really does come off as a one stop for all site, with reviews on anything from computers, or TVs to computer parts if you are building your own. They also have how to for the most simplest question about your email, to tips and tricks to the next big game taking the internet by storm. They include so many different sections for appliances, cars, and a bit of nerd culture.

My grandfather gets this all the time so I wasn’t too surprised seeing there website offered a lot. From at home DIY stuff to Military technology, this site covers a lot. Just scrolling through the site and I found an interesting article about solar panels on cars. With electric cars becoming more common every year, this was a great question to see an answer to. While some cars have used them in the past, most results have shown they aren’t that effective. But this hasn’t stopped them from manufactures from trying to improve it. The article talks about how they left the car parked for 6 hours in LA and got about an additional two miles. While this still wasn’t good, it allows for room for growth and allows them to see what needs to be improved. If we can get effective solar panels on a car, we can basically drive without stopping for a charge.

This post is a bit different since it focuses more on the finaical side of these companies but they are companies I haven’t heard before and they are offering many unique things in the field of robotics. There is BotsAndUS, who are creating robots that work with people in various different work places. There is also Nucleai, they are helping create “ AI-powered precision oncology platform “ that helps with cancer treatments. This article has a lot of numbers because of their net worth and how much they have grown, but this was such a great way to learn about new companies and how they are helping change the world.

Uh... From what I can tell nonsensical screwball comedy is par for the course for Manga adaptations, not just the Kingdom Hearts ones. Like, it's basically the signature Manga "We take nothing seriously" mindset. It's not just Shiro Amano's style, that's just how Manga IS. You know, like how American comics are pointlessly gory and dark? Japanese Manga is annoyingly nonsensical and self-parodying!

Yeah but he takes it to a whole other level. Like yeah you can expect some goofiness in manga adaptions cause they have to pad out, but Kh is just out there. Also you haven’t read a ton of manga have you?

for something like manga, I actually love story wise more than the games. It goes deeper into the relationships with the characters more than the game does. Sometimes the simple interactions between the characters made them better like Riku buying ice cream for Roxas and even trying to talk to him instead of fighting him. They may parody a lot of things but I feel they do a better job making the characters more fun and emotional than the game.
