On the table the boy will find a bag of homemade chocolates with his name on the tag, alongside a handwritten note.
“Kitsu,
Happy Valentines! I hope you like these! I’m sorry for shooing you out of the kitchen last night, but I wanted them to be a surprise! And if you want more, I’m happy to make them!
Can I ask a small favor? I might have snuck more of these into your bag for Dad, since I know he probably wasn’t gonna come into the dining room before you guys left. Please make sure he gets them, and that I’m wishing him a good day, too!
Love,
- Fuyumi”
Groggy and off balance those drooping eyes shoot open to the sight of his own name. He read it again and again in disbelief until finally reaching for the letter beside the bag.
Ah, so that’s why she shooed him away last night. Fearing Fuyumi had finally had enough of his presence Kit had spent the night sulking, pondering all he did wrong. A surprise for him was beyond his narrow assumptions. Why anyone would go through such lengths was beyond him- unnecessary even. Still, with the fluttering in his chest and blurry vision he was… happy?
Taking the baggie in hand Kit skips off in search of Enji, honestly he just wanted to flex on the man a little that he got chocolate from his daughter. He’ll deliver the extras as promised… eventually.
with @sorrowfulsidekick from here
"Fine, fine. I'm--"
Breathing. Light through the tiny window of their dwelling. How did she feel...?
"...I'm fine, pipsqueak. Stupid dream, that's all... M-must have been fighting somethin', y'know? Kicked so hard I did it in real life, hah..."
No reason to give the kid an anxious spiral over her condition...
▸ // Despite the assurance, Kit wound up at Surge’s side regardless. Kneeling and continuing to look her over he offers a hooked arm for leverage.
“A ‘dream’?” Incredulous, head tilts as he examines each twitch and physical cue the dim light allows. That choking, familiar, fear of hers saturates the space between them. There would be little good in calling her out on it, that didn’t tend to work in his favor.
“I… I have dreams where I’m ‘fighting’ too. Th-they feel so real…” There was little attempt to disguise his own little scowl but it doesn’t stick around for long. Even obscured by the dark, those tired eyes visibly soften. “It’s always a relief to wake up, isn’t it? Remembering you're safe.”
Gently, and as quietly as possible, he is hiding the bowls and shoving the cheese in the bottom most fridge compartment.
(not sure how specific you want these nightmares so bear with me, for Surge) "Oh, Surge. You just don't seem to get it, do you?" Starline takes a sip from his cup of tea, pinky up. "All this talk about freedom, freedom, freedom. You'll never be free! You'll always be tied to me, deep down. I mean, even Kitsunami knows that!" He points to the fennec standing beside him. "Now why don't forget about this nonsense?" He raises his glove...

That voice seems to creep along her skin, crawling up through her fur to sink into her eardrums, causing a kind of involuntary shudder she can't help but feel pathetic about.
No, no, no--
The kid's dead-eyed stare. The height the doctor had over them both, imposing, imperial, she was such an idiot, thinking either of them could survive out on their own, when they were made to be his--
"Shut up, shut UP--"
"SHUT THE HELL UP--!!!"
Guh--
...How long had she been out? When had she fallen off of her bed? The throbbing along her temples doesn't suggest an impact there, but the vivid nature of her visions does make her briefly wonder... Was it really a dream? Or some kind of horrific failsafe...?
“ Wh. . . ”
▸ // Peering from the bottom bunk outsized eyes stare to where she had awoken. The confusion as he wipes the sleep from his eyes suggests that even Kit himself was unaware of when or how/if she fell, just that whatever happened managed to disrupt his own sleep- possibly from Surge’s grumblings as she rose.
“ A-are you okay? " Sitting up, pillows fall to his side as he gives her a distant, cautious, look over. " Wh-what happened...? You didn't hit your head, did you?! Hold on, don't move-- "
Oh he wants him DEAD
"She's usually fine with whatever we bring home, if anything. Fuyumi's not exactly picky, don't imagine she'd ask for anything as expensive as bluefin--"
He seems to realize his mistake the second after it leaves his mouth, not helped by the boy's deadpan stare. One might think that was the kid's default expression, but Enji was familiar enough with that slight disappointed darkening behind his eyes...
Had he ever really... asked? A memory pokes at the back of his mind, of his daughter lamenting her lack of skill at western dishes, her desire to cook with fancier ingredients, remembering her wish to make something with truffle one day. For some reason, it didn't seem to mesh with his recollections of the few times he had brought food home, how grateful she'd been...
Probably not... about the food itself.
"...What... do you think she'd like, Kitsunami...?"
▸ // He would be right, the disappointment on Kit’s face was palpable. The man's immediate answer told him everything he needed to know and that dull gaze made this known. The boy knew his point was registered. Good.
Stubby fingers work the phone with ease, clearly leaving the restaurant menu and zooming to the contacts. Then it rings, purposefully put on speaker.
“Why don’t we just ask her?”
It was an obvious solution, wasn’t it? Fuyumi was her own person. It was about time her own father learned to be a bit more curious.
For a brief moment, a brilliant flash radiates from a ring portal, brightening up a desolate, dilapidated basement. During its brief existence a small handheld device falls through, landing on the floor below. As both the portal and its radiance vanish, the room's remaining illumination is a pale green light emitting from the new arrival.
It lies there motionlessly, aside from the slow strobe of its screen, which vaguely reveals its surroundings: a dark and nearly empty room filled with a few unlabeled boxes and other indistinct shapes littered across the floor. Hours pass. Days and weeks go by. An indeterminable time occurs until eventually, the avatar of a lynx flashes onto its screen, opening her eyes to take in the world around her.
Am I... awake? How long have I been out of commission...? I should have just arrived here a few hours ago, right? Nicole thinks to herself as she gazes around the run-down room using the camera on her body. "Hello?! Is anyone there?" she calls out, again and again over several minutes; her only response being the faint, distant rumble of civilization. Whether it was vehicle, wind, water, the bustle of people who did not notice her, or the hum of machinery, was unknown to her for now.
"Do the people on this planet even have an internet or technology in general?" She debates to herself, as she begins to scan for any sign of modern civilization in her vicinity.

"..." A brief moment of silence passes by, as Nicole's on-screen visage flickers on and off in frustration.
"Alone. Immobile. My only immediate hope being some unknown network I that's going to take a week and a half to break into. "
"Ugh. I suppose this is karma for what I've done, then. I escape the consequences of my actions only to end up confined in an abandoned basement with nothing to do." She rambles to her surroundings, in the vain hope that someone would hear her. This act of desperation is met with the uncaring howl of wind passing through the upper level of the building. After a few minutes of waiting for a response, a noise, anything resembling a sign of life to no avail, she resumes her protest of her self-inflicted problems in hopes that it makes time pass by just a bit quicker.
. . .
arrival.txt Keeping a record of this to myself for future reference. I'm awake. I can't tell how long it's been since my escape. I don't know where I ended up, but there seems to be some sort of network nearby. I can't tell if I'm badly damaged, the signal is weak, or if this network has unusually strong encryption, but it's going to take over a week to break into it. As much as I'd like to take a more efficient approach, my options are limited, and I desperately need to get a better idea of what this world is like. In the meantime, I'll keep attempting to catch the attention of someone, something. anyone. nearby. And try not to go crazy waiting this out. I've been through worse. I can handle a little boredom.
▸ // A day passes. The midday quietude amplifies the clicking of steps in the near distance. They grow louder, now accompanied by brisk rummaging. Every now and then a voice chimes in, soft and analytical as every scrap observed was subjected to harsh appraisals. “Junk.” “Unusable.” “Ew??” Statements typically followed by the insufferable clang of rejected metal hitting the ground.
▸ // A soft sigh. A shake of the head. The steps continue past nearly missing the presence of another entirely. It was what might have been a voice that forces eager steps to backtrack.
Entering the desolate room and coming across unmarked boxes unearths irritable exaltations.
There was no one. Was he just hearing things?
▸ // Still, curiosity urges him to scrounge around for anything useful. Then, turning a head, he sees it: an odd device plastered dead center of the room. Gingerly rushing over and taking it into his grasp, its camera should now have a good view of just who was making all that noise: an unassuming child. Marveling at all the bits and bobs while rotating the gadget in his grip.
“A mini… laptop? I’ve been meaning to get a pc… still, looks pretty old-” A paranoid gaze scans the room. “-Who would leave something like this here…? Hm.”
"S-S-Stop giving Surge cheese!"
"It's just going to upset her tummy!"
Surge, have you ever seen the show Destroy Build Destroy? Because it seems like something you'd like.

"...Yo, that shit looks sick..."
"Kit!!! KIT!!!! DO WE HAVE A VIDEO CAMERA???? I WANNA TRY SOMETHING!!!"
▸ // Oh anon, he is going to kill you.
It was always… interesting? No. Notable, at the very least, how the boy's demeanor would shift from situation to situation. Despite his penchant for pranks, the apparent enjoyment he took in teasing the top hero verbally or otherwise, he always tended to shrink away whenever he asked for anything, from anyone.
It takes a moment as the man mulls the request over. They still had a few hours until they'd be heading back home, and while technically they were still on patrol, Enji had made it clear to his sidekicks and staff that Kitsunami took priority at the current moment.
Sure, he'd been questioned when he brought the boy onto the actual field with him, but it wasn't as if he was throwing the kid at villains face-first.
"...Alright, but we can't do do dine-in, it'd have to be takeout. I can pull up their menu on my phone if you want--"
Right. This, he should text Fuyumi about, to see if she wanted anything. Maybe he could even convince Shoto...? Doubtful.
▸ // Silent glee remains on normally dour features as a small palm reaches out for the man’s phone. Of course waiting for him to send out any last second texts. There was no rushing, he was grateful for the opportunity but admittedly caused him to feel a little shy. Endeavor was nothing short of intimidating despite how easily he let himself be bullied by a child 1/4th his size.
“Ms.Fuyumi will be excited. I had mentioned this place prior so it’d be nice to at least sample their food…” the words come out mindlessly as he scrolls through the menu. There was… a lot more on offer than expected. Unaware of what made the dishes so ‘fancy’, he eyes familiar dishes.
“‘Bluefin sashimi’… wow. M-maybe we can all share one of those big assorted platters? Do you know if Fuyumi has any favorites?”
The question is given genuinely but also as a test of some sort; curious if Enji had an answer on his daughter’s preferences.
▸ // Forehead, sore from frustrated knocks, rests limply against a meager palm. The quiet is disturbed by the clicking and scribbling of a pen. It was back to the drawing board for the young boy who, by this point, had spent his free time laboring over notes and blueprints.
▸ // Multiple harsh dashes across paper signal cessation of brewing plans.
I’ve tried bombing scares… twice. I wound up cleaning that mess both times.
“What did I expect…?” he speaks aloud for a moment, Pen tip raps against battered paper in succession.
Surge is faster than her ability to process. She excels at 1v1s. Playing to her strengths is proving a touch more difficult than initially predicted. I must be missing something… something only Surge is capable of that is beyond my own skillset.
▸ // Face scrunches as a spark of an idea burns the edges of a disjointed mind.
Something someone with her speed has done before, someone like… Sonic.
" . . . "
sorry for the person i become when i read the new issue tomorrow
"Can’t be that expensive! And even if it is, five finger discount, eh, Drippy? We can throw ‘em in self defense and nab them right back! Win win!! Whad’ya say??"
"R-really-?"
▸ // Awestruck, hands clasp together with subdued glee. "I say that sounds like a great plan. They wont see your speed coming, nor will Tails ever see again after receiving his just desserts."
