A Voice From I Don’t Know Where, Mary Oliver

ollybaseball:
This girl made Ollie into a chuckling mess, and that’s exactly what happened when she twirled once more. It was nice to snuggle a little closer to Sophie, but the danger in that, was that both forgot what they came here to do. A smile appeared on his face at her words, and he nodded in agreement, “Sounds good to me,” Wanting to cuddle with her before she left so, they parted ways and started to work together on making a sandwich. The man grabbed the pans, and a little bit of cheese, “Never say no to cheese,” The man joked as he placed it on the table. “Okay, babe,” He told her as he grabbed his phone to play a BTS song.
BTS was one of the reasons they became friends. As they sat in a classroom together, Sophie played a BTS song, and Ollie could hear it through her earphones. He instantly started a conversation with her, and they hit it off right away. The man watched closely at how Sophie got the eggs ready, making a face when she cursed, instantly grabbing her fingertips to place it under cold water, “Klutz,” He joked with a chuckle before he held her fingers and kissed the fingertips several times, “Better?”.
Sophie frowned, studying her fingers that were red. How she could have been so careless was a mystery to her and she realised she should have peeled the eggs while they were under running water. In no time at all, however, Ollie had grabbed her hand, helping her to run the hurt fingers under cold water while calling her a klutz. Instantly she pouted and had been about to protest when Ollie kissed the same fingers gingerly, chuckling as he did so. Instantly, her heart did a somersault and for the second time that night, she wondered what it would have been like if they were something more than friends. Leaning forward to kiss his nose in a gesture of thanks, Sophie nodded and then moved to place the eggs in a bowl, grabbing and dusting some salt and pepper onto them.
“Thank you for always coming to my rescue,” she commented absently, turning her head slightly to glance at Ollie, the corner of her lips upturned into a smile of genuine adoration. Suddenly overwhelmed with sentiment, she added. “Whether I’m cold, need a study buddy, have lady emergencies or simply forgot to cool the eggs down before peeling them. Thank you, Ollie, really, for everything that you are to me,”
Turning now to fully look at him, she grinned wider. “Love you,”

Ollie raised his eyebrows before tilting his head to side as if to say he doubted her words, but a chuckle soon followed. It was a little awkward to hear great things about yourself especially when the girl you loved mentioned those. While he didn’t think it wasn’t true, the man wasn’t going to fight Sophie on it, instead he smiled at her and said, “Your word always counts for something.”
It was cute to see her contemplate her options. She didn’t have to speak for him to see what was going on. That’s what he liked so much about their friendship, they didn’t always have to talk. One movement or look was enough to know what the girl was thinking. “Okay, okay,” the man chuckled as Sophie helped him get up, a sigh leaving his mouth as they left the comfortable warm position behind. When they got to the kitchen, and Sophie twirled, the man had the brightest smile on his face as he enjoyed seeing his friend having fun. His hand held hers as he motioned to twirl her again, this time to help as if they were going to dance. At her words, Ollie’s heart skipped, sometimes Sophie would say things that made him think she was interested in him, but she had a boyfriend so, the man probably wanted to hear what he heard. A loud laugh escaped when she mentioned dancing under the kitchen lights, “You are crazy,” It was meant in the innocent way, it was endearing how playful she was. “So cold,” The man said before he wrapped his arms around Sophie, as if to warm them up for a second, “just a second,” he whispered before taking another moment to hug her. “Okay, now food!” Knowing these two would dance and cuddle all day if it was possible.
The last thing Sophie had expected was for Ollie to play along though really, she should not have been that surprised because he always accommodated her and always made her happy. Sophie happily twirled, laughing as though she had no care in the world as she hummed a tune. After she was done, Ollie reached for her and wrapped his arms around her, causing her to squeal at the unexpected gesture. Almost instinctively, she snuggled closer and sighed happily before turning her head a little to look at him. “It is cold if you’re too far away,” she agreed readily, staying in his embrace just a little longer. When she parted, she grinned. “Let’s do this quick and then we can continue to cuddle before I really, really have to leave,”
Nipping his nose, Sophie reluctantly moved away from his embrace and reached for two eggs to boil , having decided to make an egg mayo sandwich. She took out the bread and leftover tomatoes from the fridge, having known where everything was, familiar with Ollie’s organisation system. “Olliebear, play a cute song,” she requested, grinning at him. Sophie then proceeded to cut out the tomatoes and by the time she was done, the eggs were boiled. Carefully, she picked them out with a spoon, letting water run over it. Unfortunately, the young woman underestimated the heat of the eggs and as soon as she had them on her fingers, attempting to peel it’s shell, they burned and she dropped the eggs into the sink. “Ouch!” she cursed, blowing on her fingertips.Â
Happy Valentine’s Day, Sophie!! Hope you’ve a lovely day.

Ollie closed his eyes when Sophie ruffled his hair, but a bright smile evident that he liked her doing so. His supporting words probably weren’t going to motivate her, but it was fun to try. A small chuckle at her words, as he shook his head, “Stop flirting,” The student joke as he stuck his tongue out at her, but he was very grateful for her words.
“Got it!” Leaving Sophie was never going to be Ollie’s intention, and he would lie if he said that he wasn’t afraid when Sophie got a boyfriend, afraid their friendship, cuddles, cute moments would end, but she thankfully thought the same as Ollie did, that they weren’t going to drop each other for any partners. Sometimes the man wishes that he was the boyfriend, but he wasn’t. It stung a little, knowing her boyfriend could do things with her that he may or may not have dreamed about, but the man wasn’t going to be vocal about it because at the end of the day, he didn’t want to lose her.
A soft smile on his face as he looked down at her, she was the cutest when she was affectionate. “Hmm,” A moment of silence before he said, “You sure you don’t want to be comfy on the couch as I get you a sandwich?” Giving her the option to decide to stay in as the man made her a sandwich or to do it together.
“I’m not flirting!” Sophie replied, closing her eyes as she got comfortable where she was--Ollie really did make the greatest pillow, if she was honest. “I’m speaking the truth, Ollie...you do need to give yourself more credit for being amazing; so many things to love about you,” At her own words, she opened one eyed, the corner of her lip quirked up in a little smile. “And I love you so my word should count for something, no?”
Making a face, Sophie closed her eyes once more, frankly feeling far too relaxed in the position to want to move. However, she knew she had to either way because they--or at least, Ollie-- was going to have to get up to make it. Sighing a little, she contemplated her options, then gave in. Sophie sat up and shrugged. “I’ll go with you; I don’t want to sit here alone, anyway. Come on!”
Hoisting herself up, Sophie took Ollie’s hand and pulled him to his feet, leading him to the small kitchen of the room. As they crossed the small space, Sophie did a cheeky twirl, then giggled. The little action caused her heart to leap and tumble and for the briefest of moment, she wondered what it would have been like if they were...a “them”. “We’re like one of those Taylor Swift songs,” she gushed instead, willing the thoughts away as quickly as it had come. “Dancing under the kitchen lights; oh no, Ollie...we’re walking cliches now!”

A soft smile appeared on the man’s face when she mentioned that he’ll see her tomorrow. Oliver knew that, but at times, he felt like a dog with separation anxiety that would destroy the whole house when he went without Sophie for too long — okay, maybe not that bad, but close to that. Scrunching up his nose thinking of a pop quiz. “I’ll motivate you with words,” A moment of silence before he showed her what he means, “Go! Go! Go! You can do it!” He yelled a little, but not too hard since he was near her ear, “Something like that?” The student chuckled at his own joke.
Her next words made the man raise his eyebrows, it was not something he thought about at all. Sure, he had girlfriends in the past while being friends with Sophie, but they stranded after a week. Why? No one could compare to Sophie, and with the affectionate side the two shared, his ex-girlfriends were quick to want Oliver to stop talking to Sophie, understandable, but not do-able. Sophie was always number one, and while timing was wrong, and she was taken, part of Oliver knew he’d get a chance one day, hopefully someday. “No need to worry about that,” he chuckled, “Have you seen me?” The student joked before placing a soft kiss on her nose, “You want something to eat or drink anything?” Trying to make sure she was taken care of, no one was going to Ollie’s dorm saying they had hungry.
Sophie chuckled loudly at Oliver’s little attempt at motivating her and shook her head. She smiled widely before reaching out to ruffle his hair a little, something she always did affectionately. Despite everything that has happened and will happen, losing Oliver under any circumstances would never be an option for Sophie. Anyone who had a problem with him being in her life could go to hell. Wyatt--her boyfriend--had raised the concern before but after a firm assurance that Oliver was her best friend and she was going to have him in her life at all cost. Wyatt had given in. At the end of the day, the two of them took up different parts of her heart.
Brought back from her own thoughts at the words he spoke, Sophie’s gaze softened. “Of course I’ve seen you. Tall, handsome....funny and incredibly sweet to everyone around you, what’s there not to like? Be warned though that any girl that wants to get with you...would have to deal with me, got it?” Sophie reminded him, only half joking. “Nothing but the best for my Ollie bear,” Grin stretching wide once more, Sophie moved positions to lay on Ollie’s lap instead, looking up at him as she thought about something to eat. “How about...we make a sandwich? It’s been a while since we did one of those. I could mash the eggs or we could do peanut butter, what do you think?”
ollybaseball:
Oliver would be lying if he said that he was a big fan of Disney before he met Sophie — No, it never attracted him. The student always thought he was more into the action packed movies, but that changed when he started to hang out with his beautiful friend. After the first movie, he was sold. The beauty, the storylines (and the cuddles) all matched up, and Oliver could call himself a Disney fan now.
Happiness and warmth filled him when Sophie pulled him closer, a small content smile on his face before closed his eyes for a second, enjoying the moment before he opened them again at her next words. Olly always dreaded her leaving, but as much as he’d love to take her to class, he also knew it was not his place to do so. “Ew,” making a face similar to Sophie’s before letting out a laugh, “Poor Sophie,” but he squeezed her a little at her words; glad to hear she was going to stay for another. Her giggles brought a chuckle out of Oliver; the sound of her giggle was something Olly adored, he thought it was endearing, “You can always annoy me, but you never seem to,” The man told her with a smile before he added, “One more hour, and then I walk you back to your dorm with tears in my eyes,” a dramatic sigh followed his words before a small laugh escaped his lips; but it was probably a little true.
Sophie scrunched her nose up at how dramatic Ollie was but nevertheless, she found him extremely cute. Perhaps if they had met under different circumstances, things would have been easier. At the back of her mind, she subconsciously knew she could see herself with someone as wonderful as Ollie. Then again, he deserved someone better; someone who was not...Sophie. The thought of someone else in his life, however, made her feel an unhealthy amount of jealous but the brunette quickly pushed it down and instead took a deep breath. They were here now, two best friends with not an inch of space between them and she was beyond grateful. Thankful that he was always there for her and accepted her, baggage and all.Â
“You know you’re going to see me tomorrow, right?” Sophie pointed out, finally replying to his earlier statement. “There is no way I will go a day without seeing my bestest friend in the whole wide world! Besides, I need someone to motivate me to study for the pop quiz,” Despite the seriousness of the quiz itself, Sophie found herself grinning. Unable to stop herself, unfortunately, her earlier thoughts resurfaced and she added, “I think I will have a lot of separation anxiety when I finally have to share you with someone else,”
ollybaseball:
Cuddles — God, Olly loved to cuddle. There was something peaceful about it especially with his best friend. This friend, was a special one, maybe too special to Olly, but there was a small problem. This friend has a boyfriend, but that doesn’t mean she couldn’t cuddle her best friend, right? According to Olly it was fine, but perhaps that’s because he’s not the boyfriend who needs to deal with it. He was the friend who got his daily cuddle doses and that was perfect to him.
Today, there were plenty of cuddles, more than his normal daily dosis but perhaps that was because they watched Brother Bear the movie, it made Olly just a little sad. His arms were wrapped around his friend as they laid on the couch, his head on her shoulder as he softly hummed at the experience. It was wrong to enjoy this so much, but the man couldn’t help himself, “Do you really have to go back to your dorm tonight?”
It had been a while since she watched Brother Bear and she honestly did not know what compelled her to suggest it in the first place. Perhaps it was the fact that she saw someone carrying a huge bear on campus--as cliche as it sounded, she felt like she absolutely needed to watch that particular movie. Knowing her boyfriend had training, she had texted her best friend immediately with the suggestion and thankfully, he gave in. An hour later saw Sophie in Oliver’s room, wrapped up under his blanket, snuggled in next to him and the movie playing in the background. Ollie was comfort and warmth all rolled into one and there was never a dull moment with him--even if all they did was something simple like watch a movie and cuddle.
Looking down at Ollie when he spoke, Sophie grinned and pouted before nodding. She really did need to go back that night because her dorm room was at the other end of the campus and her lecture venue was a block away from there. She pulled herself closer to Ollie, though, as if to comfort him and brace him for the impact of her answer--frankly, a huge part of her hated when she had to leave, too. “Got an early class in the west wing tomorrow,” Sophie explained, making a face. “Unless you’re willing to wake up at seven and send me there in the dead of the morning, I have to go back...still want to cuddle, though so...” Sophie giggled then, curling further into him. “I’m gonna annoy you for at least another hour,”
