“Like you need me to find trouble. I think you’ve been doing it pretty well without me.” Granted, Billy wasn’t as good as finding fun. There was a big difference. Well, there was a difference to Tommy. Not everyone tended to agree with his definitions. He hesitated, feeling a little more awkward about it than he’d thought he would. “Yeah, I mean…if you actually need me. I can get here in pretty much no time, right? Besides, you’ve got grandpa around.” Not that either of them saw him very often, but he was still there. For emergencies. Like…big ones. “Not like I’m gonna be out of touch or anything.”  

“No, I don’t need you to do that – it just makes it a lot easier.” He gave his brother a smile. “Yeah, grandpa. I don’t think he’d get involved in anything even if he had the opportunity to. He seems to be playing the hands-off role last I talked to him.” Billy said with a small laugh. “You better not be. You’ve got to fulfill your brotherly duties and let me bitch about Teddy every now and then, especially now.”

“If the only reason you want me here is to talk about your feelings, I’m never coming back.” He’d rather do just about anything else. But Billy already knew that. “Anyway, not like I don’t have a phone.” He shifted his weight to his other foot and looked back at the door. “This is getting way too close to feeling emotional, so that’s my cue to go.” Tommy turned on his heel, but thought better of it and pulled Billy into probably the quickest hug ever. As soon as he pulled away he was gone in a blur of motion.

“No, I didn’t forget his name.” Billy rolled his eyes some. “I’m just used to you showing up randomly and dragging me into some sort of trouble.” He said. “You’re… leaving town too…” Billy repeated with a sigh. First Teddy and his stupid letter; then his brother was leaving… He shook his head quickly. “Go.” He nodded. “You should be happy with Thierry and this city is nothing but a pit of suckage.” He said with a slight scoffing-chuckle. “Besides, not like you can’t just show back up in a few seconds if something really bad happened.”

Billy hadn’t been entirely expecting Tommy to show up, but he was at least prepared for any potential company that day. “Wait, what? ‘We’ who? I didn’t make plans to go anywhere.” He remarked, furrowing his brow some in confusion.

“We, Thierry and me. Or did you forget his name again?” He walked over and flopped down on the couch with an audible sigh.”I think we’ll be gone for awhile this time.” Awhile might mean permanently, but he wasn’t ready to commit to that yet. All he knew was that he wanted out for the time being. Both of them did.

The bridge bomb was really just the last of many straws. Tommy had gone to Star City hoping for something permanent, and even though he had a collection of reasons it should have felt that way...it still didn’t. If there was a time to get out safely, it felt like the city was right in middle of it. So he was doing what he did best: running. He was just running with someone else, for once.

It meant saying goodbye to his brother, but was that even what it was? Billy could teleport. Tommy could run around the world. All it meant was not living the same place again. Still, he didn’t want to bail without a word. He showed up at the house the night before he and Thierry were set to leave. “Hey man, I just thought I’d pop in for a second. We’re taking off in the morning.”

He raised an eyebrow. “Oh? How is it two different things Tommy?” Teddy asked with a raised eyebrow and another laugh. “Sorry your brother is way cuter and you’re totally not right.” He shrugged as he watched Tommy go through things again. “Oh he knows he has nothing to worry about.” 

“Uh, because you don’t have to shapeshift into whatever. I don’t have a magic don’t be fast button. I just exist like this. If you hadn’t noticed.” And most of the time it was fucking awesome, except when he had to deal with practically any other person in the entire world while the moved like a snail with narcolepsy. Tommy pulled out a shirt he liked the look of and tossed it over his shoulder. “That’s a dirty lie, Theodore.”

Billy scoffed some. “Don’t do anything wrong?” He repeated sarcastically. “I really do need to spend more time with you – you’re starting to get delusional.” He remarked before chuckling softly and smiling. “I am sorry though. Again. For everything.” He said with a wave of his hand to add chocolate chips to the other’s cereal bowl. 

“Please, I don’t need your pity time.” He wasn’t going to complain about the chocolate, though, so he took a giant, appreciative bite of that. “Yeah, yeah. I’ll come up with some way for you to make it up to me. You can count on that. And it’s not fruit baskets full of nasty pears, either.”

The only weird things he ever saw were on TV, and he guess he should be grateful for that, but after meeting so many people here in the city, he couldn’t help but feel a little sheltered — a little inexperienced. But maybe that was a good thing. Less darkness in his life. “It probably won’t stop getting weirder, either.” There were aliens, for Pete’s sake. Chris nodded, impressed, “Have you always been able to move that fast?” At the slew of hiccuped questions, he had to laugh and nod, “Yeah, I eat people food. If I did eat a person I, uh… I wouldn’t necessarily know. Water’s fine, though.”

Pretty much the instant Chris said “water” a glass of it was in his hand and Tommy was back in the kitchen again. He returned a moment later with a sandwich that would have made Shaggy and Scooby-Doo proud. He wasn’t entirely sure how he planned to get his mouth around it, but that was a good problem to have. He plopped down cross-legged in the floor in front of the TV (one of the things they did have already). The food was enough to finally capture Cricket’s attention and he left Chris alone to go sniffing around for scraps. “You wouldn’t know if you ate a person? You get like, werewolf amnesia? That sucks. Also, scary. Don’t hang around here when it’s a fool moon, please and thank you. I might be able to take you but beating up Thierry’s cousin probably isn’t a good look.”

Chris laughed. “Yeah, it’s a thing, I guess. I try not to change too much, though. It, uh, it’s not pleasant. My folks took a video of me changing one time and once was enough.” He didn’t know anyone who could do what he did. Thierry was close enough, but at least he had control over it completely whilst Chris was left locking himself away once a month. His brows rose at Tommy’s guesstimate and he cracked a sideways smile. “Running over the Atlantic or through the Bering Strait? That’s really cool, though. Beats the hell out of blacking out once a month.”

“Man, I always think the world can’t get any weirder then I meet a fucking werewolf. Whatever,” Tommy shrugged, walking into the kitchen. The house was barely moved in, but the one thing they did have was food, because he was an intolerable bastard without that. “Bering I guess. I just go, no map consult included.” He opened the fridge and stared into it. “You want something? Drink? Uh...rare...steak? You eat people food right? Not people?” He was mostly joking. Mostly.

He shrugged. “It’s about as cheating as how fast you are. Is it really cheating?” Teddy asked with a raised eyebrow. “Plus cheating is really only in the eye of the beholder. Or beauty or some cheesy crap like that.” He said with a laugh. “I’m not going to comment on that.” 

“Two totally different things.” Tommy went back to rummaging in the closet, just in case he saw something else that he wanted. No sense in making two trips if he thought about it later. “Why? Because I’m right? I know I’m right. You don’t have to admit it. Billy’s feelings will be hurt wherever he’s at right now and he won’t even know why.”

A lot had happened and sometimes Kate was upset that she didn’t get to take part in a lot of her friends adventures and such. But they each lived their own lives and what was important was seeing each other and being there when they needed it. “Here you are.” She threw her hands up in a nonchalant manor. “Excuse me yes this is a real business. And i’m a semi private detective. Apparently a different state requires a different licence but I have one and I make money with doing hero things without getting caught. i don’t really make money I make enough to pay rent and eat pizza and sometimes that’s enough.”

“What the hell is a semi-private detective? Did you just make that up?” He was pretty sure she’d just made it up. Tommy sat back up and rested his chin on the top of his fist, looking at her for a second. “You could join up with the team I work with. I mean, if you’re not so busy with the semi private detective thing. No money though. Well, if there’s money nobody is giving me any. I should probably ask about that.” He stood up as quickly as he’d sat down and wandered over to one of her windows to mess around with the blinds. “Like old times. Kinda. Like I said, they’re no Young Avengers.”

Billy rolled his eyes and watched Tommy help himself to a bowl of cereal, climbing himself onto a nearby bar stool to prop an elbow on the counter. “Teddy’s not home right now anyway, so you’re good.” He said with a light chuckle. “There’s nothing to question about the ‘twin thing’. You lack guilt for most of your actions, and I feel guilty when I do something wrong. It’s just what makes us a pair.” He explained with a tone laced in inklings of sarcasm.

“See, I think the thing that you’re missing is that it’s not that I don’t feel guilty...” he took another loud bite and gestured at Billy with his spoon, “it’s that I don’t do anything wrong. You on the other hand. You’re wrong all the time. You should feel guilty. Guess that does make us a pair.” So many his moral compass didn’t always point him the same way Billy’s did. That didn’t mean that he wasn’t right. He just handled things a little more...messily.

Teddy chuckled and shrugged. “Whatever. You know I’m everyone’s type. I can literally be whoever anyone wants me to be.” When Tommy put the jacket on Teddy raised an eyebrow. “Happy now? And I won’t even tell on you. Well he will probably expect it to be you anyways. Who else would it be?” 

“That’s cheating, though.” Not that Tommy even really had a type. Everyone he’d been interested in was pretty wildly different from each other (physically, anyway). He zipped up the front of the jacket and turned around, admiring himself in Billy’s mirror. “Looks better on me,” he confirmed, as if anyone had asked.

“There was not fifteen!! Maybe ten! I don’t make them that big.” He grumbled as he still rubbed sleep from his eyes. “What? Everyone likes fruit baskets! They’re a universal way to apologize for things. No, Grandpa didn’t tell me to do anything. Haven’t seen him since Stark’s party.” he retorted. “I could maybe do candy. Video games a little more complex – and I’m too lazy for that.” He said. 

“Yeah maybe they were universal like fifty years ago. You really make me question this whole twin thing.” Like it wasn’t weird enough already to be identical twins who simultaneously weren’t related at all. He’d had years to wrap his head around it and it was still ridiculous. Tommy wandered into the kitchen, rifling first through the cabinets and then the fridge until he had a bowl of cereal. He took a very noisy bite. “Go tell Teddy not to walk out here naked. You have a guest and I don’t wanna see that again.”

There was a grumbling sound as Billy entered the living room from the bedroom down one of the hallways; rubbing his eyes sleepily as he tugged on the waistband of his pajama bottoms – he had to at least be half-dressed before approaching the other. “What? No, I’m not dead. What are you doing here?” He asked with a yawn and scratched his chest.

“Because a fruit basket popped up on my bed last night while I was sleeping in it and I know that was you, because I don’t even like pears and there was like fifteen pears in it.” Maybe that was a slight exaggeration, but only barely. “Nobody even likes fruit baskets! Are you like a hundred years old? Did Grandpa tell you to send fruit baskets?” Not that he probably did that either, unless it was full of murder fruit. Was that a thing? It was probably a thing for Magneto. “At least poof over candy or video games or something I want.”

Chris shrugged as Cricket continued to nose his hands. “It wasn’t so bad back in Oregon. I think everyone was too high to really care too much,” he joked, though it was probably true. That state was full of so many hipsters it was ridiculous. But he supposed there were worse places to grow up. Chris glanced up at Tommy, if only for a second, “I, uh—I can turn into a giant werewolf.” He shrugged again, “It sucks, sometimes. Like during a full moon… I can’t control it then.” His brows furrowed when Tommy continued on and had to stand up then despite the dog’s whining. “How fast can you go?”

“Wait...like an actual, howl at the moon werewolf? That’s a real thing?” He didn’t know why that was surprising. He’d seen skrulls running around wearing his friends’ faces. He’d almost been eaten by a dinosaur one time. The X-Men chick who shot fireworks out of her fingers or whatever had been a vampire for awhile. Of course fucking werewolves were real, too. “Here to Paris in uhhh...” he glanced at the clock on his phone, “about thirteen minutes and seven seconds. Give or take.”
