One of my coworkers got me in the habit of saying “you dropped something” in a neutral tone of voice whenever someone drops something/knocks something over.
When I was on vacation this last weekend, my friend I was sharing the hotel room with was going downstairs for something.
Since it was kinda late and we were both super tired, I said “don’t forget the room key, I’m not getting dressed to go downstairs and let you in.”
They replied “I’m holding a room key.”
Then there was the click of plastic hitting the floor and without looking up or missing a beat I said “no, you dropped a room key”
And my friend was crying with laughter.
