Personally to me, this feels pop punk/post-punk, especially with the intro to it. Very fun track, and fun discography over all. Phoneboy has a couple of inspirations like Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, and Rex Orange Country, so if that sort of thing tickles your fancy, maybe you'll like them!

Head bobbing kind of beat, with a steady tempo and strumming guitar, with clear vocals. And just a sort of nostalgic feel for young rebellion, to suit the overall album.

This next one is a beautiful bedroom pop track by Homephone. I love small artists, but I'm very surprised just how small these guys are. They have albums with lovely artwork, and gorgeous music that I think anyone could love! It's a very sweet one, to boot.

Starting the day off with a sick, technically impressive track by Texan rapper do not resurrect. An underground artist notable for his deep voice, he adds a wonderful crunchy tone to his dark trap tracks. A lot of his work has a sort of tech feel to them, especially in this one which calls back to the Cyberpunk game.

I'm a sucker for deep voices, and this one of those artists that dips real low! It's unreal.

And finishing off today with a much different kind of sound, venturing into the nihilistic and trap metal rips of Scarlxrd. Previously in a band and with a YouTube career before settling into his solo act, he's definitely expanded upon and made his mark on the rap metal genre. He might be recognizable as well for his features with Corpse Husband.

I love this guy's vocals a lot! He has a very quick-paced, intense yell, and his style has dipped into a lot of dark, horror based vibes for this particular album.

Going a different direction into rap as well as across the Pacific, Rejjie Snow is an Ireland-based artist in the alternative hip-hop scene. He's had some chart toppers early on in his career, but this is my personal favourite from him for it's slow intro and switch into a steady beat that makes you want to bob your head along.

It feels like a personal song, too, with a lot of jumps from good and bad experiences. He's still active as far as I know, even having a recently released single.

Today we have a melodic, indie rock track from post-punk band Bad Suns. Sometimes even described as dream pop, Violet has those vague but romantic lyrics along with a fun beat and a catchy chorus. I imagine this is a good song to play while just going out for a drive.

Dream pop and other "dream" genres are one of my favourites. They're considered a post-psychedelic runoff, and usually have lyrics that are mind-wandering and not always clear. Very interesting types.

5/21/24 tune #3

A hop into another genre as well as the other coast, Speech Patterns is a post-hardcore based in Florida. While they sadly haven't been active since their last single release in 2019, their music still stands fairly strong with melodic notes and a flip between high and mid tempo beats.

Personally, I think this one is the best of their 2017 album, Without a Sound. The instrumental and vocals pair well together and compliment the other, without drowning one or the other out. Makes you wish you could strum along a bit.

Now leaning more into bedroom pop, Mickey Darling has a peppy instrumental to pair with some downtrodden lyrics. Big Sad is a great preview to show what you're getting into, with a very fun bridge to get stuck in your head. Added to the fact that the duo works independently on their music makes it very technically impressive, as well.

A good guitar, and the vocalist does reaches some fun ranges with their voice. Such an ear worm.

5/21/24 Tune #1

A nice, light and romantic jam to start things off, Mega Mango is a more recently formed band that took a hiatus when the pandemic hit but came back strong with Boggle. Self-described as Phruitcore and based in Philly, this song has a sound to me much like surf rock, while overall the band has a good alternative and bedroom rock feel.

With a lovely distortion on the vocals, a fluctuating guitar, and steady drums, this is a fun one to nod your head along to.
