I overthought the thing and I checked the dictionary definition (lmao) So if charms are tiny ornaments on a bracelet, charm in their context would be existing together in a single space, being each otherâs tiny decorations and just basking in each others presence in silence
Thank you to @soulxmakaweek for setting up this event

âMaka, slow down, you donât have a weapon-â
Maka glared at Kid. Yeah, no shit she didnât have a weapon, thatâs why they were here. Soul had been kidnapped by a witch right under her nose, she wasnât leaving this mission to her friends.
She had failed as a meister, who in their right mind would let their weapon get stolen by a witch with destructive powers and mysterious motives?
The only reason she was allowed to go on this mission weaponless was because both Kid and Lord Death saw how much fire was in her eyes and that her rage could probably take down the entire DWMA if they left her unchecked.
Blackstar gave her a firm pat on the back, right in between her shoulders. âDonât worry, Maka! Weâre gonna kick this witchâs ass, rescue Soul, and then weâll get to go home!â Her fellow meister screams in well meaning enthusiasm.
âHeads up, guys! Weâre getting close to her lair!â Liz shouts from where sheâs in weapon form in Kidâs hand. Maka takes a deep breath as Kid shoots the door open.
âSo, you come to my home to steal from me? Have you children never learned manners?â A sickly sweet voice drawled from the shadows.
Maka feels her blood start boiling. âWhere is Soul?â She demanded, balling her fist. The witch laughed, stepping out of the darkness to reveal herself; a tall woman with deep red hair, silver eyes and a hat resembling a fox.
The witch had the audacity to laugh in her face. âOh, you mean my little pet scythe? HeâsâŠ.â She brought her gloved hand up to her face, tapping her chin with her index finger. âIn punishment, for lack of a better term. I had to put him in his cage with a muzzle to keep him from biting my hand-â
She doesnât get to finish her monologue, as Kid shoots right at her. Blackstar rushed her with a shout, slinging Tsubaki right at her, aiming for the head.
âMaka, go find Soul, weâve got her!â Kid shouted at her. Maka nods and ventures deeper into the witchâs lair. âOk, if I was a witch who kidnapped Soul, where would I hide him?â She said to herself.
Traveling the turning halls, Maka hears it: the sound of muffled crying. That had to be where Soul was. Picking up her pace, Maka tracks the sound to a room with a small box covered in a crimson blanket in the center. Ripping the fabric off, Maka nearly vomited at the sight in front of her.
It was similar a a cage a dog would be kept in while its owners were away, not allowing for much movement. But that wasnât the problem. The problem was its contents.
Soul was curled up in a fetal position, stripped to only his boxers, shivering in the cold air. A metal muzzle is strapped to his tear-stained face, covering his mouth and irritating the skin on the bridge of his nose. A ring of glowing metal is fastened to his neck, almost like a shock collar. His usually snow-white hair was matted and dirty, and his skin had bruises scattered across it like a starmap, especially around the scar on his chest and stomach from fighting Crona, as well along his legs and back.
Maka used a paper clip from her coat pocket and pried the lock open, flinging the cage door open. Bleary red eyes blink open and stare at her. He tries to make a sound that vaguely resembles Makaâs name, but doesnât get it all the way out.
Maka cupped Soulâs face in her hands, pressing their foreheads together. âOh, Soul, Iâm so sorry. I should have been better. I know if I had done something different, this wouldnât have happened.â She said with tears welling in her eyes.
Soul makes a little grunt and butts his head against Makaâs cheek. He always has hated when Maka blamed herself for anything that happened to him.
âLetâs get this thing off you.â She said softly. Thankfully, the muzzle had a simple latch that Maka was able to easily undo with her hands. As she slid it off, Soul started to breathe heavily, probably thankful to be able to get a proper breath in without a slab of metal over his mouth and nose.
âIt wasnât your fault⊠I should have been more careful.â Soul said with a cough. Maka slid her hands down to his neck, feeling the collar. âWait Maka, donât-â
A sudden jolt of electricity zapped through the collar, making Maka draw her hands back and Soul cry out in pain.
âIt goes off when I try and go into weapon form, and when I try and touch it. Otherwise I would have been out of here way earlier.â Maka nods in understanding. âHow do we get it off without hurting you?â She said, more to herself than to Soul.
There was a latch, but it looked like it needed a very specific key to dislodge it. Maka didnât want to use her paperclip again, since that came with the risk of shocking both of them.
âMAKA! HAVE YOU FOUND HIM YET?!?!â Blackstarâs voice roared from the hallway. The other meister rounded the corner, face going pale when he sees the state his friend is in.
Tsubaki popped back into human form, indigo eyes calculating the situation. âMaka, I think I can cut the collar.â She said, flicking her wrist to turn it into a blade. Maka looked at her, weighing the option.
âOkay, but be insanely careful. Itâs a shock collar and I donât want either of you to get hurt.â Tsubaki nodded, dipping the blade under the collar. âOn three, Soul. One, two, three!â
She cuts through the magic metal like butter, yelping when it shocks her. Tsubaki quickly shifts herself back to full human form, shaking out her hand.
Soul hollers in pain as the metal gives him one last surge of electricity, the collar falling to reveal red, angry skin underneath. Maka inhaled sharply, tracing it with gloved hands. She hoped Kid put the witch out of her misery, because Maka was close do doing it with her bare hands.
Maka slid her coat off and slung it over Soulâs shoulders, the black fabric not fitting perfectly, but giving Soul more coverage. He shuddered and wound it tighter around himself.
She placed one arm under Soulâs shoulder blades and one under his knees, scooping him into a bridal carry. A perfectly fine Soul would have protested the movement, but now, he just winds his arms around her neck and pressed his head into her shoulder.
âLetâs get you out of here.â Maka whispered in his ear, walking away from this awful place with Soul in her arms.
***
It had taken a while to get Soul home, but thankfully, he didnât need to be hospitalized. A quick chat with Lord Death to recap the mission and discuss the fate of the witch later, Maka is leading Soul into their apartment.
âWhat do you want to do, Soul? Eat something or take a bath first?â Maka asked softly.
Soul wound her coat a little tighter around his shoulders. âDefinitely bath first, I feel gross.â Maka nodded, helping him to the bathroom and setting him on the toilet seat.
She filled the tub with warm water and some bubble bath she had gotten as a birthday present from Liz. The calming aroma of strawberry and mint fills the room, making both Soul and Maka sigh in contentment.
Soul slipped Makaâs coat off his shoulders and shimmied his boxers down his legs. He let out a little hiss as the water hits his bruised skin, sinking down until the bubbles reach his collarbone, hugging his body.
Maka caressed his cheek with her hand, stroking the cheekbone with her thumb. âDo you want me to wash your hair for you?â Soul nuzzled into the palm of her hand. âPlease.â He answered, red eyes filled with longing.
Maka sat down on the edge of the tub, slipping her legs on either side of Soulâs body. She takes the handheld shower-head and gently runs warm water over his head, thoroughly soaking the white hair. Maka takes the bottle of peppermint shampoo and pours a generous amount of it into her hands, working it into a lather until Soulâs head is covered in a foamy layer.
Soul exhales through his nose as she works her fingers fingers through his hair. The bathroom is quiet except for their breaths and the gentle scratching of shampoo cleaning his hair.
âIâm-â
âMaka, you already apologized. Weâre not gonna swap apologies back and forth. You rescued me, Iâm safe now.â Soul interrupted at her, proceeding to smile at with sharp teeth.
She paused, words dying in her mouth. Maka couldnât put into words how guilty she felt for letting this happen, any meister would. But this is Soul. The man who would never let Maka take the blame for anything, even if it was her fault.
She peels soapy hair away from the back of his neck and pressed a kiss there. âTip your head back so I can rinse your hair.â She instructed.
Soul does what she says, allowing her to run warm water over his hair. Snow colored hair sticks to his face as he spits out some soapy water that got in his mouth.
Maka applied some cool conditioner on the ends of his hair and grabbed a comb. âSorry in advance if I pull too hard. Your hair is still pretty tangled.
She starts slow, working her way up to the roots with the red plastic, applying more conditioner when needed. Maka did still feel bad when Soul hissed in discomfort when she snagged a tough tangle.
Eventually, Soulâs hair is clean, back to its usual soft and silky self. Maka ran her hands through it, gently massaging Soulâs head in apology. He looked like he was half asleep under her touch.
Maka gently scrubbed his body with some vanilla body wash, being wary of any bruises on his skin, giving extra caution to the shock marks still on his neck. Sheâs rub some lotion on those later.
She showers him with one final hose down with the warm water before popping the drain. Maka held up a fluffy powder yellow towel and wrapped Soul up in it. Helping him up to his feet, she led him in bedroom and got some fresh pajamas, as it was getting late.
Once changed, Maka was about to take leave to make something to eat, but Soul grabbed her wrist from where he was lying on his bed. âStay with me. Please, Maka.â He whispered, eyes pleading.
She slipped into bed with him, sitting against the headboard. Soul wound his arms around her waist and pressed his face into her side. Maka gently ran her nails through his hair, smiling when she gets no resistance from tangles.
âRest now, Soul. Iâm not going anywhere.â She whispered as his eyes slid shut. She wasnât going to leave him, not now, hopefully not ever.
"Solomon, you really are nothing but trouble, aren't you?" The phrase resonated inside his head anytime something went wrong. He remembers it clear as day, even as details from his childhood home slowly fade away from memory.
He remembers the ghost of her mother standing there on the other side of the bed that one time he made Maka cry. The pain on his torso had been nothing to how he felt seeing tears on those green eyes.
"Such a nice girl, she deserves so much more than the troubles you bring her"
He knows the words aren't trapped in his past, however. He hears them, from time to time, in one way or another. Whenever he lets himself smile a bit too wide, where he walks a bit too fast or when he occupies a bit too much room.
The words came back to the front in some run-down hospital in the middle of nowhere. They had won, but they were either rusty or careless and Maka ended up hurt.
He knows, on a level, that's how it works, he is the weapon, and Maka is the meister. He knows that every injury he's taken she sees as a failure. That didn't mean he could forget the slow drip of blood as he carried her into the ER.
He remembers the looks, and in hindsight, he can tell that it looks bad. And he understands, a bit, why the nurse put a hand on his chest as they took her away and said. "You've done enough"
"I know his kind, nothing but trouble⊠did you see that poor girl?"
He shrinks on the chair and waits. And waits.
She is angry when she comes back, he can tell. And it's not just the bandages and stitches. And by the time she reaches him, there's some shuffling behind the counter on the corner of his eye.
"We are leaving," She says, grabbing his hand.
He doesn't have time to protest, and he knows better by now. He did tell her once, that he would follow her to the ends of the world, and she never forgot.
So he follows, her long legs not making up completely for the height difference, and he finds himself slowly catching up.
And as they walk, seemingly going nowhere, as he can almost see the little clouds of temper over her blonde hair, the words "nothing but trouble" resonate again, in a slightly different tone.
He remembers the taste of her lips for the first time, only to be interrupted by cheering, whistling and a mention of a lost bet.
He remembers fights that started for nothing and ended with her frame pressed against his own as she refused to apologize but also didn't demand one from him.
The little grins, the small jabs, both verbal and at his ribs.
"They thought you hurt me." She says, both exasperated and a bit offended, probably partly on my behalf, partly on behalf of her pride.
"I kinda figured." He answers, and smiles a bit, letting his shoulders slump, not in defeat, but in relaxation. "That shows how little they know."
"Yeah, I know, you'd neverâŠ"
"Not what I meant." He says, and looks down and to the side, red on green, as he grins. "If they knew you, they'd know you're the one that's trouble."
"Soul!" The shove is followed by a small wince from her, and he can't tell which of them breaks into laughter first. So to make up for it, he offers her his arm.
Even if slowing his pace to keep up with hers is⊠troublesome. He wouldn't have it any other way.
this picture doesn't really fit the theme, but i wanted to portray the overall atmosphere of charm: beautiful landscapes, silent bike ride.. At one point, Maka realizes that she is enchanted not by the landscapes, not by the roar of the engine, but by the man she is now embracing with her arms.
Soul was charming, and that was on its own incredibly infuriating.
Because she is not blind, and after some work, she is not completely deaf either, to the truth of the matter. And yet with all of that being taken into account, it doesn't change the fact that it makes her rage boil a little.
Because he is so effortless about it⊠because Soul's charm comes out more when he is not trying than be cool, and that tells her that she, as a baseline, finds her Blahaj of a weapon charming.
And what other reaction can one have to that information than righteous anger? It's not good enough that he slowly but surely shoots past her in the height department, with even his slouch not making up for it, nor is it enough that he has to be so⊠nice, whenever someone has the valour to ask him to be their partner.
Does she want him to scream at them or run away from them? No, because that would be embarrassing on its own, but he shouldn't be so⊠understanding about it. So gentle. It makes the way she wants to react (and did react, the few times someone asked her) seem a bit⊠dramatic. And she is not dramatic.
But the thing that had really put her mood on a boil had happened earlier this week. She didn't even remember what had started her spat with Ox, not that 'Ox being Ox' is not a valid reason, but the moment she heard his lazy steps she knew Soul was about to 'defuse' by dragging her by the neck of her clothes.
Except he didn't. The world suddenly turned and spun in a way that sent most of her trained instincts into panic, but the constant, known hum of Soul's presence shorted all of those fight reactions, and since she didn't have a flight bone in her body⊠she just sort of froze.
Which according to him, later, was the entire plan. And saying that would have been bad enough⊠if her idiot of a shark hadn't smiled at her in a way that sent neurons she didn't know could light up in that situation to do so.
