God I was REALLY fucking hoping I’d be able to avoid having to make this post but here I am.  If you guys remember my last crowdfunding post, I needed help paying my upcoming electric bill bc my job search (which has been ongoing since before my move) has so far turned up nothing.  I really don’t want to make this too long but basically, I’ve been looking for a job for three plus months and despite so many applications and some interviews here and there, I’ve had absolutely no luck.  The money that I managed to raise/save up last year before my move in December was enough to cover three months and when March comes, I will need $600 for the rent.  I have no job currently and no alternative streams of income so in order to keep from becoming homeless again I really need your help.

This area of the U.S. has scant if any renters’ protection laws so I have pretty much zero wiggle room in terms of time frame and it’s very important that this goal is met before March 7th.  It’s also the absolute dead of winter and it just keep getting colder so I losing my apartment in this weather is the absolute last thing I need.  My car isn’t in this state currently so I don’t even have that to sleep in and even if I did, in this weather is would 100% kill me. I don’t talk about it often on here because I’m so glad to be past it now but my housing crisis last year was literally one of the most stressful and harrowing periods of my very young life!  I hate thinking about it and I still live in terror of ever experiencing that again.  It had a seriously negative effect on my physical and mental health and I would be beyond appreciative if I could have y’all’s help in keeping me out of another situation like that.

I’m collecting enough for two months so I can have a little peace of mind while I keep searching for a job.  If everyone who follows me donated just $1 I would have more than enough to stay safe and housing secure for a very long time so please consider donating!  If you can’t donate for any reason, you’re being just as helpful by reblogging this post!

So I’m writing that Medium article on John Boyega and how fandom loves to worship white characters but I need more examples.

I need more examples of white fandom coddling white characters and more examples of white fandom going out of their way to ignore actors of color and focus on their white co-stars.

I have a couple examples for you; Candice Patton on The Flash, fandom like to sideline her character (Iris West) for Caitlin Snow, and the actress has faced a lot of racial abuse online because of it. 

Also the treatment of Anna Diop from Titans (She plays Kory Anders aka Starfire). She also had to go through a lot of racial abuse and fandom tends to over worship side characters like; Dawn, Hank, Donna etc etc rather than give Anna her due propers. 

If we wanna take it back, we can also look at Teen Wolf. Fandom ignored Tyler Posey (who played Scott McCal) and seemed to really latch onto Dylan O’Brien (who played the best friend of Scott). 

There’s probably many more but these are the three that come to my mind. Hope it helps!

Ooooh, a big one I just remembered. Princess Allura from VLD (only black member in the show) - I never watched it but I heard of the toxicness that was that fandom. A lot of people seemed to dislike and judge Allura really harshly and fanworks often left her out.

Just to add as well, since i haven’t seen anyone mention it, fucking Game of Thrones.

I’m speaking from my own personal experience in the last two years.

Ellaria Sand’s character was changed from one who abhors vengeance to one who revels in it.

Talisa Maegyr-Stark was killed in an incredibly gruesome way all the while being pregnant.

The Dothraki are portrayed as wild ‘savages’ and the Unsullied as mindless drones.

Missandei’s only purpose was to hype up her queen and be her handmaiden, and was eventually killed off in chains. Her last words were her queen’s battle cry even though she never would’ve condoned the mass murder of hundreds of thousands of people.

Grey Worm was turned into a war criminal without feeling even though he never would’ve committed the actions he did in the Sack of King’s Landing.

Elia Martell is constantly pushed aside for Lyanna Statk and fandom loves to spout the excuse that she would’ve condoned her husband running away with (a fourteen year old girl) because she was Dornish.

And as to white fandom in the GoT community? God forbid you criticize Daenerys Targaryen. Her stans will come for you at the throat and they have the masterful way of turning the conversation around and when POC try to talk about the racism that they see in the show, especially in regards to Daenerys’ storyline, they derail the conversation or resort to the ever favourite argument of ‘you’re applying modern lenses,’ or ‘it’s a medieval fantasy’ and other such bullshit.

Blogs more eloquent than I have spoken up about this and got numerous hate thrown at them, most of them racial slurs and the like. Tagging @rissa-rey @winkydinkle @lady-questfire and @sayruq as well bc they can talk more to this.
