★ I’m anais, I am a 16-year-old who goes to an arts boarding school where my area of study is literary arts... it's a little complicated but technically it's public so it's free...

★ my aspiration is to become a political journalist and to major in gov/area studies with a concentration in journalism.

last all nighter of the year

well, i've only pulled 1 or 2 this year, usually I try to spare a few hours of sleep.

goal: -finish illustration proj

-finish film editing proj

-run through art history works that im less familiar with

plan

film editing 2-3

3-6 I should get in that hypnotic all-nighter state

i might sleep a little bit from 5:15-7:15 and I might take a shower although it depends how much time I end up with. I got a monster energy drink too

I also might sleep in an empty classroom once I get to school

I'll do a lore drop once I'm done with today

i was about to have the perfect study day today, literally woke up at the perfect time and thought "well im just spiritually tired and you know its dark (i live in mn)" and proceeded to sleep wayyy too late... not even coffee could fix this one... ahhhh hhh

now i'm afraid to go to bed early again because i have less room for error for how late i can get up

I know I post a lot about how much I get done, but this is what some days are like:

this was Monday, and I ended up skipping my 2.5 hr long seminar class. that's the one I'm probably going to withdraw from, even though it'll go on my transcript. it's not work pushing through a class that is only tangentially related to my main focus and risk getting a lower grade when I want to apply for PhD programs... I think it's ok to have a single W on my transcript, right? 😭

study motivation: work with me late at night

this study session is definitely less intense than my last one. my goal is to finish a worksheet outlining the bare details on my project on media literacy. I also have to send 6 interview requests, which may seem like a hefty amount but I have a format that I’ll largely copy and paste. I’m also going to post my survey on different social media platforms.

My goal is to finish these tasks within the next few hours and still spare some basic hours of sleep. I’ll be using Doddie’s study with me video and providing updates every 50 minutes. For my first pomodoro session, my goal is to post the survey to different social media platforms and finish 25% of the worksheet.

Let’s drink our last cup of coffee for the night, brush our teeth, and get started ✍️

update 1: so I may have accidentally made a loud noise with my chair and woke up the whole floor. if anyone asks I am just going to say the curtain fell on me.

I finished the survey and posted it to a bunch of places. I’m currently finalizing my list of people I need to send emails too. If within the next 50-minute session I send out half the emails, and the one after that I send out the other half plus finish the Google doc, then I can sleep for the night. That’s my goal.

I just worked for an hour and 15 minutes. Almost done with the worksheet, it’s definitely a work in progress. I have around 50 minutes left before I want to go to bed so I am going to pivot over to the emails and see if that helps.

I’m feeling better now. It’s late and I didn’t accomplish much but it’s okay. I still went for a walk and took a shower which is my bare minimum. I also did like 1h research but I lowkey kept falling asleep during it. Tomorrow regional scholastic awards come out

post all-nighter day, you know the drill, kinda just sleepy and emotional all day. I finally found a cozy desk tucked in the back of a classroom that I can work at after school. trying to work in my dorm room, except on the rare occasion that it’s 1am, has been miserable. a large factor may be that the shades are broken and I have no natural lighting lol. I feel like I’m just a bit miserable and unproductive when I’m not at home. I generally feel like a mouse struck by the winter cold, fending for itself. I am going to try a bit more natural light, meditation before working, and to accomplish more of my work at school. I also want to associate my desk with productivity and make a point to move somewhere else or stand up if I want to scroll.

what I did today:

♡ finished most of my art history homework

♡ half of my newspaper club google slides

♡ sent the email I drafted yesterday.

the literary reading ended up being postponed a week, so I have an entire week to prepare everything. now I’m stuck in a strange in-between state on what I can do. I hope tomorrow can be a brilliant day. I want to complete 4h of deep, focused work and leave my dad a voicemail as a reward. I think it would be a heartwarming incentive.

it’s nearly midnight and guess who is panicking because she didn’t finish her rough drafts… it’s okay, I’ll take you guys along with my journey to write 2 rough drafts of 500 words within the span of 5 hours (we will try to get one sleep cycle in at least).

I’ll provide 5 updates so stay tuned, hopefully I never have to do this again lol

first hour done!! (if you’re wondering why it’s not on-the-dot, I brushed my teeth and cleaned up for 30mins before starting). I was so overwhelmed and considering quitting but I’ve already written 200/500 words for the first rough draft. I have to finish to be motivation for you guys :) I’m also planning to have a little drink that I look forward to tomorrow, which will be an iced black coffee.

I’m going to try to write the rest in a 2-hour sprint since I’m in flow state. But first I am going to take a break and listen to an energetic song and try to energize myself.

hey everyone it’s update #2… technically it has hasn’t quite been 2 hours, but I finished the first rough draft! this one was easy as I’ve been researching it for quite some time and just needed to put everything down to paper. My next one is super un-researched, so I’m going to try my best to get an hour of research in and write it in another hour. It will be a super rough draft that I definitely plan to edit and fix up once I’ve taken a long nap.

And I did want to share a little about what I’m doing… I know it’s a symbol that I’m way too busy but I’m doing my extracurriculars （´-`）I’m the editor-in-chief of my school newspaper, and no one has turned in their articles yet, but last issue I turned my article in late and I felt really ashamed because I’m supposed to be the leader and a model example. also, I don’t really have time to write my articles this week, and I can’t really afford to have things pile up right now. I do have time to edit more in the future, but I need to have something in on monday before the meeting on tuesday.

4h 28mins later, both of my articles are done and arguably better than a rough draft. would I recommend pulling this move? absolutely not. the articles were very informational and not philosophical or ground-breaking at all. were they solidly good writing and better than pulling together a lousy wikipedia summary of these events in 30 mins? I think so. also, I just get so into workflow at night (like concerningly well), but it’s lowkey bad workflow 😭 I think the best way to describe it would be short-sighted workflow. like I’m going and going but it’s not on anything particularly significant.

and technically I could sleep for about 40-50 minutes right now but I think I’m just going to skip it and pull a traditional all-nighter. thanks for coming along everyone. I survived using doddie’s study with me and also I had lana del rey’s “peppers” stuck in my head lol.
