tocchet basically admitting he pulls in barkey as interpreter for video reviews with michkov (presumably when the local figure skating coach is not available…?) is killing meeee. I can only assume it goes like this:

tocchet: and tell him if he can’t even last a full shift then his fatass needs to hustle back to the bench and let someone who can actually skate get on the ice

denver: (long pause) coach says once the puck clears the zone, you can change

matvei: well maybe if he actually put me on my natural wing then I could create some offense. like how am I even supposed to create plays if we are stuck in this stupid dump and chase cycle

denver: (longer pause) mich suggests a controlled zone entry

tocchet (narrowing his eyes, suspicious because the words do not match the gestures. but all he hears are charlie brown teacher noises when matvei speaks so he is forced to rely on denver): danny should have traded your lard ass when he had the chance

denver: (deep breath) he says he loves having you on the team and is glad danny drafted you

michkov: (also narrowing his eyes, but he did recognize the word “danny” so that must mean denver is telling the truth)

Why did Jim Clark make the effort to race in such relatively unimportant events? “I really enjoyed myself racing in 1964,” he would say later.”I managed to relax a bit more than usual; somehow the strain was not so great. I had, after all, achieved my ambition of becoming World Champion, so maybe my mind made me relax a little. I certainly felt freer of the cares that had almost obsessed me at times in 1963 and I consciously went out to enjoy myself. I don’t think this was shown in my driving, for though my attitude might have changed a little, the results will show I was trying even harder in 1964 than I had the previous year.” (x)

Still in casual trousers but now wearing the top half of his Dunlop overalls, Jim chats to Jack Brabham during that first day of Indy testing. Jack has just won the International Trophy at Silverstone and is running his own Offy-powered car at the Speedway. Note the asymmetric suspension and the fuel tank on the left side (x)

Jim and Dan missed Friday practice at Monaco but in the case of the World Champion it made little difference. He qualified on the pole and was leading easily when his Monaco nemesis again intervened. First, the right rear roll-bar mounting broke on the Lotus 25. Jim called in quickly to have the complete bar removed – and still could have won but for an engine failure later in the race. His adaptation to the 25’s handling problem was remarkable

The right roll-bar mounting broke early in the [1964] Monaco GP, when Jim was pulling away from the pack with ease. Many observers believe the failure was caused on the first lap, when Jim brushed the straw bales at the fast exit of the chicane. I doubt this for two reasons: one, it was the right-hand-side that broke and, two, Jim states in the updated version of his autobiography that it was later proved back at the factory that the failure would have occurred regardless of whether he’d skimmed a wall or not. The design was subsequently modified
