exactly… people think with time your mental illnesses magically evaporate. they are spitting at us. it is mockery. they think that these issues are not severe or do not acknowledge the different severity in different kinds of depression.

they have done no research whatsoever probably because they never have had depression or they think they’re stronger than you cause they got a fucking bad score on a test and felt sad for a few days and then got better or they had a breakup and felt sad for a month and then they started going out again and meeting people and they felt better… Like shut up you dumb bitch

One of the most ludicrous things parents say is “Why aren’t you more grateful to us for feeding, clothing, and sheltering you?!”

It’s because you’re the parent. You have a duty to feed, clothe, and shelter your children. You’re not doing them a favor by making sure they don’t starve. You’re fulfilling one of the responsibilities of parenting. Your children don’t owe you for doing what you’re obligated to do.

I’ve learned so much from all the mistakes my parents made with me and my siblings and now that I am a parent myself, I will do my best to make sure I don’t make the same ones they did. Growing up I had my dad constantly remind me that he bought the shoes I was wearing, the food I was eating and the tv was HIS TV because he bought it with HIS MONEY, and because he had bought me my first phone with HIS MONEY he had the right to break it because he was upset at me. You just don’t do that to a kid, that type of parenting behavior only creates low self-worth. All of my life I’ve felt un-worthy of receiving gifts/money from people, I absolutely HATED when someone gave me anything because I felt unworthy and felt like I needed to give something back in return just to feel like I didn’t owe them. Whenever I’m with a guy and he tries to pay for my food I feel anxiety hit me like a bucket of ice cold water dumped over me, because it brings back that feeling from my childhood. I don’t care if I’m on my last $20 I’ll pay for my own food even if they insist on paying, I’ll even try to pay for theirs just to avoid that feeling.
