Aah ive missed this. ATorn ligament meant no walks to villa Baan Suaan Serenity and no posts! Well today there back. As usual a beautiful morning, a beautiful beach( not cleaned yet) and seas so calm you can take pictures of the sky in them. The only other people we found were bravely facing the dangers of our local shores. After the storm! We are very proud of our team. The South of the island doesn't get much attention. Its a beautiful beach but the storm made a lot of mess. 2 team members spent six hours today. scroll through to see results. Now this spot isn't near or villas, its 1km away. If we can do this then the villas in the area can do more....Thais and private owners are stepping up. But two of the biggest villa management companies have still done nothing. After the storm. Samui had a lucky escape the storm turned and the islands were spared.But not unfortunately from the internet news hounds pushing for clicks by touting disaster! And worse using photos and videos not even from Samui. Yes some beach front restaurants lost there decking and the tide swells threw sand and debris over their fronts. But theres a reason beachfront outlets use decking and one of them is its easy to replace. Yes trees fell some on houses( mine included) So it happens every rainy season and in summer as well. Yes powerlines were cut amd people lost electric. Again rainy season can happen every few days. Most resorts and more and more villas have their own generators as electric has always been an issue on the island. The fact is it was a bad storm. Everything is running normally, all communications and services are full speed. All shops and restaurants are open and my guests are enjoying some of the best kite surfing conditions they can get.. The biggest issue now is cleaning the beaches from all the stuff washed ashore. A lot of which is fisherman's stuff oh and flip flops. plus fish ,sea cucumbers and the odd angry crab. We were lucky. Yesterday the worst storm in 30 years was supposed to hit Samui. But as the fates would have it it turned away and hit the mainland reducing the impact it would have otherwise had on the island. Battered and bruised the island,residents and its guests did not get off scott free. The rain could be handled and no worse than the more severe weather of our seasonal monsoons. The unusually high wind was another matter. trees around the island fell(see picture daughters bedroom) and many took out electric cables and poles around the island meaning residents were without electrics. I personally would like to thank the PEA whose unsung heroes worked in very dangerous conditions go make sure that electric supply was working wherever possible. Working in high winds and thunderous and wet conditions.Without them the island situation would have been much worse. And a moment's thought for our islands guests who found themselves stranded here against their will. Calm before the storm. As samui prpares for possibly its biggest storm since 1988 all seems very calm. Most people seem well prepared and it now looks like the worst will miss. However as ferries are now cancelled for at least 2 days and mamy flights are sure to be there will be some difficulties. Many island guests are due to leave bht now find they have no way home and many hotels already booked up. And of course the rainfall may be upto 30cm over the day so floodings assured. Nathon is the major port of Samui. Its not as commercialised as many areas are on Samui and has a distinct style to it with little alley ways amd shops of character. I was cutting down one of those alleyways( to small for a car) and came across this little number. Hope we'll be seeing mord like ig soon. A little shopping. When coming to Samui it is always best to spend a couple of days in Bangkok first not after.You can catch up on the jet lag, visit the spots ,enjoy the cuisine or simply shop. Bangkok is listed as "most exciting city in the world" one of the "most visited cities in the world" and of course is world famous for its mash of cultures old and new and its shopping.The big malls even feature famous art installations like this one (part shown) from South Korean artist Choi Jeong Wha. After a couple of days of the bright lights and flashing colors youll be worn out for sure. Morning beach pictures. Nice walk to villa Baan Suaan Serenity today. It may be rainy season but were still having great days. And the beach is so busy! Believe it or not the coconut trees washed in from the sea and not out from anywhere near this part of the beach. Loved the colors of the palm plant seed. Random beach pictures and thoughts. Got him! For two and a half years i have been trying to catch pictures of seaeagles on video for my daughter( and myself). Every morning we see two or three but always as i fumble for my phone they head behind the trees. Well not today! Only six seconds but got him. A short walk this morning as a little bit showery( it is rainy season afterall). Funny how we Brits always manage to mention the weather. And, as can be heard in both videos my little angel is in fact pointing out that A,it is in fact raining. And B: im stood like an idiot phone in hand holding it forth to the heavens As if in some new hi- tech form of worship. A seco d layer i was on my knees! It has to be said it was she who made me look as if in prayer. "Photo this coconut!"Again to point out it was in fact ,raining. A point of worth mentioning. When i propposed we go home and practice spelling my daughter quickly rediscovered her love of island nature and its beauty. Anyway as its rainy season its best to keep an eye out for falling coconuts. It is a well known myth( and it is myth) that coconuts are one of the biggest killers on the island( its actually motorbikes and taxi cab bills). However think where you park your bike or car as dents can be costly. Asi know from experience. When in Thailand! Today i found out why post boxes have little glass bits at the bottom. Another clip were not supposed to show visitors. In future ill check before placing in hand and having cardiac problems 😅 A fter recovery i mamaged to get quick clip as it moved to the electric pool and a quick getaway. A harmless snake quite common on the island.
