Authorâs Note: Bruhh, Rick! I love Brendan Fraser he slaps lol. I hope you enjoy!
Requested: by anon, Maya, darling! May I request a Rick OâConnell x reader? Iâd love to see something where reader was absolutely gobsmacked when she first met him but convinced herself that it could never be after seeing how smitten he was with Evie at first. Reader fails to notice Rickâs growing affection for her, much to his annoyance. That is, until they save each other from a near-death situation towards the end of the story and, when he tries to flirtatiously compliment her on her heroics, he only is further frustrated by her obliviousness and pulls her in for a kiss instead. Thanks so much!!

âI donât know why youâre making me come when you already have OâConnell and Y/N,â Jonathan said to his sister. You rolled your eyes, holding the strap on your bag tightly.
âI brought you because itâs something you stole,â Evie said.
âI made sure you came because I like to see you freak out over dust,â you said laughing. Jonathan rolled his eyes.
âDid you not see me in the coffin the other day?â
âI did and I imagine when you see one thatâs not in a museum, youâll freak out,â you quipped. You had been friends with the Carnahanâs for as long as you could remember. The three of you had been partners in crime since sandbox days. You had practically become an extra member of their family, considering how much time you spent together. You had all gone into similar fields of work which meant you got to see each other as often as you liked. âWho is this OâConnell anyway?â
âHeâs awful,â Evie said. âIâm having second thoughts about letting him come along. He looks dirty and unkept and-â
âWhoâs dirty and unkept?â All three of you turned around to meet the eyes of whom you assumed was Rick OâConnell.
You were instantly gobsmacked. He was so handsome. You smiled kindly, averting your eyes as he surveyed you.
âI donât believe weâve met. Are you another sibling?â Rick asked, extending his hand. You shook it, dipping your hat to him.
âNo,â you said. Rickâs eyes went wide.
âWonderful. If you arenât in their bloodline, maybe youâll be sane,â he said, letting your hand go. You smiled a bit and he smiled back at you.
âWell we have a boat to catch!â Evie said, turning around quickly as she lugged her things along with her. You and Rick walked beside each other further up the ramp to the boat.
âHe certainly cleaned up,â Jonathan muttered to his sister like the rest of you couldnât hear. Rick turned to you as he walked.
âHow did you get roped into this?â he asked quietly.
âIâve been friends with Evie and Jonathan since I was a kid. I just tag along when they want me there now,â you said, laughing gently. You had to make a serious effort not to stare into his eyes too long. He was so handsome. âEvie told me you were about to be hanged?â
âYes maâam,â he said, like he was proud of it. âThey almost got me too. Wouldâve if my neck had broken.â You made a disgusted face. âHey, I made it out didnât I? And minimal bruising.â He put his hand to his neck to demonstrate the lack of bruising.
âIâm glad. Hopefully you know what youâre doing Rick,â you said, finally stepping onto the boat. His eyes lingered on you as you walked but you were trying too hard not to turn around and stare at him to notice. Jonathan nudged Rick.
âThatâs my sister,â he said.
âNot by blood I hear.â

You sat below your competitors. Underneath the floor they were stepping on in fact. Evie was messing with the statue that was the reason you were all there, you thought.
âI would prefer actually if you would not touch anything,â Evie called back to all three of you. You rolled your eyes.
âI know history too Evie,â you said. You were ecstatic about the findings, probably more so than her. You didnât have any actual hopes going into this expedition. âI know what not to touch.â
Part of the ceiling fell down beside you. It happened so fast and if Rick hadnât had his arm on you already to pull you away, you might have been crushed. You gasped, jumping into Rickâs arms. You were all startled for a moment and then you backed away from him, clearing your throat.
âWhat did you touch?â Evie questioned. You rolled your eyes.
âNothing. I didnât touch anything. It was probably Jonathanâs fault.â
âNo, I think Iâm going to blame OâConnell,â Jonathan concluded. You stifled a laugh at Rickâs sudden accusatory face.
You sat around a campfire with the others, glad that everyone was safe for the time being. Eveyln had found a book. The competitors had put down their weapons in order for one night's sleep. You were glad for it too. You just wanted to go to sleep. You could feel your eyes drooping as you sat beside the fire.
âHere,â Rick said. You looked up at him and noticed he was taking off his jacket. He put it over you like a blanket. âJust drift off,â he said. âNo one will notice.â You smiled warmly, trying to hide your flustered emotion.
âThankâs Rick.â
âYou want a good pillow?â
âHmm?â He scooted closer to you. You raised an eyebrow but nonetheless put your head on his shoulder. Your eyes closed and you could feel sleep take you over quickly. In just a moment's time, you were fast asleep, breathing even.
âShe likes you,â Evie noted. Rick wanted to shrug but didnât want to wake you.
âIâm hoping so,â he said honestly, a thin smile on his face. He looked down at your sleeping complexion.
âYou best leave her alone,â Jonathan said. He looked disheveled and so out of place it was almost comical. âYou donât deserve her.â
âI donât think sheâs catching my hints so I believe youâre safe,â he said. Evelyn shrugged.
âSheâll come around. Sheâs bright, she just doesnât...want to believe things sometimes,â Evie explained. Rick looked away and took a swig of his drink. Hopefully that was true.

âRick!â you yelled but he was yelling at someone else. His scream echoed as he ran toward the group of oncoming enemies, sword in air. You cursed under your breath and kicked up a sword of one of the already fallen men. You had never used a sword before but there was a first time for everything.
You ran forward as well, throwing your arms in the air and clashing with another sword.
Soon you found yourself back to back with Rick, slashing and screaming, killing every one of the undead things in your way. You turned at a steady pace together, moving in sync until there was nothing left for you to get to Evelyn and Jonathan.
Out of breath you moved away from him, stomping your foot down beside the dead enemy.
âThat was amazing,â Rick said, paying you a rare compliment. You smiled.
âThank you,â you said. He rolled his eyes. You would never catch the hint would you? He turned to you and contemplated for a moment.
He crashed his lips to yours. After a moment of deliberation you leaned forward into him, putting your hand on his cheek. He pulled away.
âDid you catch that one?â he asked. You laughed.
âHave I been missing something?â
âYes maâam you have.â You couldnât help but giggle as you moved away from him. You held your sword up.
âWonderful for you both!â Jonathan said, running up to you. He hadnât been there a second before. You turned to look at him. âBut can we please save my sister!â
Rick grabbed your hand tightly and pulled you along, running after Jonathan.
Warnings: talk of SA, Proud Dads fighting over their kids, geniuses who know too much, Dad!Bruce, swearing
âWhat youâre talking about could be possible but weâre going to have to rely heavily on nanotechnology which I donât know that much about honestly.â Bruce advised, looking over your shoulder at your work. âTony and James are in the lab today, letâs go and chat to them over lunch.â
You sighed heavily and Bruce gave you a crooked smile, resting his hand on your shoulder for a second before grabbing his jacket. It was the bane of your existence that Bucky now worked Sunday too, swapping the day so he could have Mondays off and your team could work better cohesively. âI know kid, but youâre going to have to face him sometime.â
For a second your heart stopped and you looked up stricken as if Bruce could somehow know all the dirty details. He only smiled again. âTony told me you two had been dating and now you freeze up when I mention his name. It doesnât take a genius.â
âHelps if you are one though.â You sighed and he only laughed warmly, handing you your jacket. You took it and followed him back to the canteen while he asked Jarvis to tell Tony to join them.
"When I first started working here there was nothing that annoyed me more than Tony," Bruce told you conversationally. You looked up at him as you both stepped into the elevator. "You can get past any form of annoyance for the kind of work we're doing."
"It's not an annoyance. It's deeper than that. I'm not upset because we aren't dating anymore or whatever we were. I'm annoyed he didn't take my word." You sighed and Bruce nodded slowly as you both left the elevator.
"He's going to have to learn to trust you. We'll all be working together closely." Bruce said and you nodded, bolstered by the warm smile he offered you. Working with Bruce so far had been a dream. Sure the one-day weekend took some getting used to now that you only had Saturday off but the wages you got more than compensated for that.
"Tell him that." You grumbled making Bruce laugh. Being around Bruce made things a lot easier. He was such a positive influence in your life that working with him never felt like work.
"I will if you want me to." Bruce offered and you grimaced at the thought before shaking your head. You had both just sat down when the elevator opened and Tony joined you both with Bucky in tow.
Bruce caught your eye when you frowned and you rolled your eyes before plastering a too-big smile on your face. When he laughed your smile felt more natural and you sipped your coffee to hide the fact.
"What's up Wonder Brains?" Tony asked, flopping down in the seat next to Bruce. Which only left the remaining seat at the table
"We've reached the point where we need the nanotech to start coming into things," Bruce explained and you nodded, to back him up. Tony looked over you and Bucky before shrugging.
âNot a big deal, once your kid apologizes to mine.â The words were so unprecedented that all three of you paused in place, frozen by the shock.
âIâm sorry?â Bruce asked, coughing slightly. He didnât seem to know what to say but one look at your blushing cheeks told him all he needed to know. âWhat happens outside of work is none of your business, Tony.â
âShe dulled his sparkle. He used to sparkle.â Tony argued, waving a hand at Bucky who was staring at the table like it was the most interesting thing he had ever seen. âSo she needs to apologise.â
âIâd quicker quit.â You shrugged, standing from your place. Tonyâs jaw dropped and you gathered your things, turning to Bruce. âIâll email you what I was working on today. See you Sunday.â
///
âYour kid hurt my kid.â Tony shrugged at Bruce who ran a hand through his hair while sighing. âHe doesnât work that well anymore.â
âHeâs not a toy and heâs certainly not your kid. What happened between them is between them.â Bruce insisted, pointing his finger at Tony in a warning. âDonât interfere.â
âBut Bruce,â Tony groaned loudly. He slapped his hand on the table like a child throwing a tantrum and Bruce glared at him. âShe broke my toy.â
âDid he tell you that? Did James specifically tell you that she did something wrong?â Bruce asked and Tony paused to think before frowning.
âNo? But he lost his sparkle.â Tony told Bruce. Bruce took a minute to appreciate parents because Tony was like a petulant toddler and he was at his wits end. âYou donât think he hurt her, do you? Not my Boy Wonder.â
âI donât know and thatâs the way it should stay because it has nothing to do with us.â Bruce warned and Tony sighed, pouting. âOkay?â
âOkay.â Tony agreed petulantly. He sighed again, loudly and glared at Bruce who only shrugged.
âBesides my kid is way better than yours.â

âSee thereâs a difference in that we donât care.â Natasha told Steve who pouted before throwing one of his fries at her forehead. âFootball is good for one thing and one thing only.â
âOh yeah? Whatâs that?â You asked her, sipping on your milkshake. She winked at you and you knew it would be something that pissed Steve off.
âThose tight uniforms.â She laughed and Steve groaned, his head tipping back in the booth and his hands smacking the table dramatically. âFootball players have some of the best ass Iâve ever seen.â
âOh my god youâre so wrong.â You sighed and Steve sat up straighter when he thought you were coming to his defense. âBaseball players are way better.â
âShitting on Americaâs greatest past times. I see how it is.â Steve sighed in disappointment while you and Natasha burst into giggles. After a couple of seconds, he chuckled too.
âSo you canât answer my texts but you can hang out with everyone else.â The laughter stopped immediately when Wanda appeared at the end of the table. You shared a look with Natasha who rolled her eyes so hard you thought theyâd get stuck.
âI did answer your text. I told you I couldnât hang out today. If you were a mature adult about things then you couldâve come along but instead youâre still being immature.â Natasha sighed as you sunk low in your seat to avoid the line of fire.
âJesus Christ? Are we all just going to forgive Brock and Sharon then? Seeing as Y/N gets a free pass?â Wanda asked in exasperation.
âI didnât want to kiss her.â You admitted quietly, bolstered by Natashaâs hand in yours and the steady press of Steveâs foot against yours under the table.
âWhat?â Wanda asked, her rant interrupted. It was as if you could physically see the wind leave her sails as she deflated. âWhat did you just say?â
âI didnât want to kiss Valkyrie. I was drunk and Brock convinced me to do it. He made me do it all the time and then talk about it while we were in bed. I didnât want to.â You told her and her face crumpled as she collapsed down beside Steve in the booth.
âHe, you - oh no.â She covered her face with her hands and you reached for her arm, pulling her hand down. âIâm such a bitch.â
âYeah, you kind of are. But you didnât know.â You assured her, taking her hand in yours as she teared up. âItâs okay now. Itâs done.â
âIts not. He canât just tell people different stories and get away with it!â Wanda insisted. âThe narrative isnât his.â
âOf course it is. The man always holds the narrative.â Natasha sighed and you nodded along.
âYeah, they do.â Wanda grinned and looked to Steve who only looked confused.
đŹđđ«đąđđŹ đŹđźđŠđŠđđ«đČ â everything is perfect in your new neighbourhood and your new apartment⊠or they would be, were it not for the sarcastic and mysterious smartass who lives next door. he is absolutely insufferable and infuriating, so whatâs with this strange and growing sense of anticipation you get whenever you see him?
It was a little past midnight, yet you were sitting in the main hallway in total darkness, your back pressed up against Buckyâs door.Â
Charlie was huddled in your arms, letting you pet him as he rested his head on your shoulder. You wondered if Bucky had fallen asleep or if he was still doing the same thing, sitting in his own tub, knowing you were just on the other side of the same wall.Â
The power had gone out a few hours ago after a particularly vicious thunderstorm. It was fine, wasnât the end of the world, but when you woke up in the middle of the night and fumbled around in the dark for a glass of water, you banged your shin against your coffee table. You swore loudly as you clutched your leg, falling to the floor as the pain seemed to rattle your bones.Â
And then you heard the screaming. You scrambled upright on the floor, recognizing the sounds of them from that night you went over to Buckyâs place for the first time. Out of instinct, you called out his name. When he didnât answer and his whimpering continued, you raced out your apartment and began knocking on his door.Â

Summary:Â He's just so big like this. How will you ever be able to take it?
âAre you sure you can handle it, my love? You can barely take me as it is,â Loki taunts, using his thumbs to spread open your glistening folds so that he can watch your cunt swallow every inch of him for the umpteenth time this evening, âand youâre such small, fragile thing. I would never wish to break you.â
Itâs a beautiful stretch, one that makes you lose yourself in him â but you always want more, more, more. Loki may be able to bury himself balls deep within you, but you havenât tried to take him in his jotun form, not yet, and you are so, so desperate to try.
âYes,â you answer, looking up at him through your lashes. âI think I can.â
Heâs glorious like this, you think â every bit the dutiful god you know and adore. The moonlight streaming in through the curtains offers you a glimpse of Lokiâs ethereal beauty, gorgeous blue-green eyes shining with love and affection as he peers down at you sprawled atop his viridian sheets.
An amused smile graces his lips. âGreedy girl.â The pad of his thumb brushes against your clit, and you gasp, oversensitive, before he lets out a soft hum and slowly, tediously withdraws himself from your slick heat. âIf it becomes too painful, you must use your safe word. Yes? I do not wish to hurt you, little one, no matter how much you enjoy it.â
Anticipation burns through your veins like wildfire. âIâI will. I promise.â
âGood. I'm going to hold you to that.â
Loki leans down to press a kiss to your forehead, and then you feel his hands spread your thighs open just a little further â but the contact soon sends a chill through you as his core temperature starts to drop. It isnât a biting sort of cold, though youâre more focused on how the moonlight accentuates the pretty blue hue of his skin as his form shifts to something he would have once deemed monstrous.
Not now.
Not with you staring up at him with such blatant admiration, lips parted, eyes dark with lust â particularly when they lasciviously trail down his toned body to take in his cock. When you lick your lips, heâs done for.
âYouâll make me blush soon, darling,â he teases.
When your eyes flick back up to his face, thatâs when Loki finally sees it reflected there: your sheer awe at his size. You always seem to forget just how large he is in this form until you see it once again, and although that little nugget of wisdom does wonders for his ego, his love for you outshines any prideful satisfaction.
âDo you still wish to try?â he questions, gently tracing the delicate line of your cheekbone with his thumb. The chill of his fingers against your flushed skin raises goosebumps, and you lean your face into his hand, eyes fluttering shut.
âYes,â you rasp. âGod, yes.â
Loki leans down to kiss you, slow and sensual, taking his time to explore your welcoming mouth. The cool, wet drag of his lips and tongue against your own makes you moan, a sound he happily swallows down â at least until your teeth nip his lower lip in warning. When he pulls away in surprise, you offer him a coquettish little grin despite already looking so fucked out when heâs barely even started.
And then your heels dig into his ass, patience wearing thin. âLoki, please. I need you.â
A soft chuckle rumbles through his chest as he takes himself in hand and sluices the head of his cock through your soaked folds. âThen you shall have me, my love.â
Your back arches at the contact â and when he finally pushes in, your half-lidded gaze meets his in absolute wonder, lips forming a perfect âoâ.
âMore?â he asks, his now ruby eyes set on yours with a softness you'll never be able to forget.
Heâs so big, you can barely form a coherent thought. Just the tip is noticeably larger than anything else your gummy walls have ever needed to accommodate until now. âYes.â
Loki sinks in another inch, then two, and your head drops back onto the pillow, pleasure overtaking your senses as he slowly fills you to the brim. It takes you to the brink of ecstasy before heâs even entered you fully, even while your core stings and burns from the stretch. Sweat beads on your skin despite the difference in temperature; or perhaps because of it, never mind the adrenaline.
By the time he reaches your cervix, your breathing comes out in short, sharp pants, and your muscles feel tense and shaky. The stretch of him is indeed too much, overwhelmingly so, but youâd never safeword â at least, not like this. Not when youâre so ready to fall over the edge into oblivion.
âYouâre taking me so well,â he whispers into your ear. âWhat a good girl you are, allowing me to ruin you like this. My good girl.â
Itâs all you can do to whimper in response, the heady mixture of pain and pleasure a perfect recipe for euphoria.
âCan you take more?â
The thought of more has you unwittingly clenching down around him, and Loki hisses in pleasure. Youâre so stuffed full already that youâre not sure if you can take more, but you want to try. You have to try. You want every single inch of him inside of you, no matter what it takes. âHowâHow much more?â
âHmm, maybeâŠâ He holds up his thumb and forefinger to offer you a visual â maybe another two inches at most, âthis much? Iâm already so deep within you, my love, I fear I truly will break you at this rate. Are you positive you can handle it?â
Itâll most definitely hurt if he pushes you further â it already does a bit â but fuck, you want it. You need it. You donât care how much itâll hurt, so long as he stuffs every inch inside of you.
You nod eagerly.
âUse your words, little one.â
You hold his gaze in challenge, and when you speak, your voice trembles with anticipation, âMake it fit, Loki. Even if I cry.â
A low growl escapes him at that, before his hands slide down your body to find some leverage. âAs you wish.â
His fingertips dig into the soft flesh of your hips before he yanks you the rest of the way onto his cock â and your eyes roll back.
White-hot pain sears your insides as Loki splits you open, seating himself fully inside of your tight, wet heat, stretching you further than youâve ever been stretched before. Itâs too much â so much that the unfamiliar sensation of him so far within your cunt makes you climax suddenly. A sharp, undignified cry wrenches from your throat as you gush â hot and wet, drenching his abdomen as well as the bedsheets beneath you.
âOh, darling,â Loki groans. âThatâs it. Make a mess of me.â
âL-Loki,â comes your breathy whine. âSo deepââ
âYes I am,â he purrs, smoothing one large hand over your belly â and when he presses down just a little, he swears. âFuck, I can feel myself inside of you. Give me your hand.â
Dazedly, you offer him your hand and he holds it down just where his had been. Sure enough, you can feel the blunt tip of him seated deep, deep within. Loki shifts just enough for you to feel it as confirmation, but even that makes you keen.
He leans down to kiss you once more, desperate and heated, all tongues and teeth â before he breaks away to rest his forehead against yours. His eyes are such a pretty shade of red, now, hot and wanting and intense to a degree youâve never quite seen.
âTell me to fuck you. Please. Iâm going mad.â
âFuck me, Loki,â you breathe against his lips. âI need you.â
With a gentle hand upon your jaw, Loki angles your head for another passionate, heady kiss before he moves â he finally, finally moves, slowly sliding out of you nearly all the way, only to snap his hips forward and delve within you once more.
Your mind goes blank as he fills you with every new inch of him, again, and again, and again, and though heâs rougher than youâre sure he means to be, you don't mind. Not that you can even think at all, with him towering over you like this. Youâre nothing but the embodiment of carnal sensation, your entire consciousness focused upon the place between your legs that makes you whimper and writhe. The tip of his cock batters your cervix in the most delectable way, sparks of beautiful pain shooting through you with every punishing stroke.
âIâm not going to last, my love,â Loki warns, voice rough with need. âI want this tight little cunt to milk me dry. Can you do that for me?â
âYes,â you gasp, hands balling in the sheets, vision blurring from how impossibly good it feels â or maybe itâs because you're crying, you learn, when his thumb makes contact with your oversensitive clit and hot, fat tears spill down your cheeks.
âOne more,â he orders, licking a stripe up your throat as he braces himself with his free hand on your headboard, allowing him to fuck into you even harder. You feel a sharp sting as his teeth graze against the sweat-slicked skin of your neck, but you barely notice it as he works you higher, rubbing brisk circles on your clit.
âI canât,â you protest, back arching. âLoki, I canât, I canâtââ
âYes you can. Come for me. Now.â
Itâs harsh, and authoritative, and you have no choice but to obey. The bed creaks and shakes with every firm cant of his hips, and the sound of splitting wood above your head only vaguely registers as he takes you apart so masterfully, the aphrodisia feels akin to insanity.
âIâIâmâIâm coming,â you sob mindlessly. âFuck, Loki, Iâmââ
As the rapture overtakes you, you gasp and cry and soak the sheets for a second time, your walls clenching down around him like a vice. The telltale flutter of your orgasm pulls Loki right over the edge with a groan of your name. He shoves himself deep as he can go before his cock pulses with every cool burst of seed and he pumps you so, so full that you barely notice when his teeth sink into the tender flesh of your neck.
And then, when it smarts, you do.
Itâs a mark, a claim, a blissful sort of agony.
Your breathing and his comes out laboured as the two of you come back down to earth. In a post-orgasmic haze, you look up at your lover â your beautiful, debauched god, with his hair stuck to his milky white forehead and his crystalline eyes glimmering with love and amusement and laughter.
Mostly laughter.
âYou bit me,â you accuse.
âWould you believe me if I said it was instinctive? I couldnâtâah,â Loki withdraws from you with a pleasured sigh, âI couldnât control myself, my love. It was⊠overwhelming,â he says, almost wistfully. When his eyes drop to the bite mark heâs left on your neck, you can see his pupils dilate as he looks upon it. Instinctive, indeed. Then he meets your gaze once more, swallowing thickly. âAre you alright?â
You lean up onto your elbows to give him an affirmative kiss, after which the bed lurches with a loud, sharp crack.
Loki barely catches himself with his hands on either side of your body, but somehow, he manages â and you realise, then, that this would explain the laughter.
âWhat did you do?â you ask incredulously. You tilt your head back to assess the damage, only to find that the headboard has split in two, and the bedpost closest to you has snapped clean off.
Itâs the third bed the two of you have broken in as many months.
Before you can even get a word in edgewise, he begins, âDarling, to be fairââ
âOh my god, Loki, Tony just stopped making fun of us because of the last one!â
âMaking fun of you,â Loki corrects. When you shoot him a dirty look, he gives you the most infuriating grin in response. âI really donât see what all the fuss is about. It offers you the perfect opportunity to brag about your sexual prowess, no?â
âThatâs not the point! Youâoh.â
Your argument dies in your throat when you feel his creamy spend ooze out of your abused hole and onto the bedsheets. Your face flushes hot at the sensation of being so full; it feels like thereâs so much more than usual.
Loki quirks a brow. âOh?â
âYouâDid youâ?â
âDid I what?â
Your gaze drops to your stomach, where you swear it looks slightly more bloated than it did an hour ago. Lokiâs eyes follow suitâ
âOh,â he breathes. His palm caresses the soft skin your belly, gentle, curious, before he tentatively presses down, and you feel more of him spill out of you.
It feels weird. It feels good.
And then you notice heâs getting hard again.
âLokiââ you start to protest, when he slides two fingers inside of you â an effortless glide, aided by the mess heâs made of you. Your walls feel incredibly sore, but, well, the additional wetness just plain feels incredible. Thereâs so much.
âYou said you can handle it, little one. Isnât that right?â Loki purrs, easing you back for round two.

You sighed as you punched the address into the GPS after packing your things into and starting your car, the only semblance of a good bye you received came in the form of the will you had clutched in your hand. Your grandpa had passed recently and, for reasons still unknown to you, had left his land in your name. It wasnât much really, a few acres in the middle of nowhere, but you loved the place. Fond memories played in your mind as you pulled out of your old apartment lot and started the long drive. Memories of your grandpa swooping you into his arms as you sprinted from your parents car as a child. Your grandmaâs laugh as her husband hoisted you up onto his shoulders and spun you around making airplanes sounds. That was all gone now. Both of your grandparents dead and very little contact with the rest of your family. No, this was truly the best gift he could have given you. You desperately needed a break from it all- your job, your loud neighbors, the sounds of sirens that never seemed to stop so far within the city- you needed this.
With another sigh and an air of finality, you set your sights ahead and didnât dare look back.
.

As you pulled off onto a gravel road that you almost missed since it was carefully nestled between the thick trees of the surrounding forest, you found the familiar prickle of excitement run through you. Your grandpa might not be there to welcome you physically, but he had wanted you to have this. He was there in spirit. The thought had your foot pressing on the gas as your car jumped across the patchy back road.
It had taken awhile to finally make it to the clearing. One too many turns had you lost for awhile, but you managed to make your way back to the correct path. It wasnât your fault every road looked the exact same, the dense forest practically begged for people to lose their way. But as you slowed your car and entered the clearing, the cabin finally came into view and you let out a whoop of excitement. Finally. Grandpa, you were finally here.
You brought the car to a stop and turned off the engine. Slumping back against the seat you let out a content sigh as a bright smile spread across your face. No sounds of other cars, no chatter from the busy streets, and best of all- nothing to hold you down. With that thought in mind, you flung the door open and hurriedly gathered up your things. You fumbled with the keys as you approached the building and unlocked the front door. A sad pang of loneliness struck you as, internally, you expected your grandparents to be here to greet you, even now. But you knew your grandpa wouldnât want you to feel this way, so you pushed the door open and took in the nostalgic atmosphere. It was different now, of course, but the giddiness youâve kept since childhood still remained. It was well into the evening when you arrived and you noticed the sun begin to set through the curtains as you made your way to your old room. You tossed your keys onto the counter in the kitchen before making your way to the roomâs door. It was the only bedroom on the main floor and was meant for the grandchildren, which was only you. Your grandparents only had two kids and your parents were the only ones to have children. Well, child, singular. So this room was all yours and always had been. You haphazardly threw your bags onto the floor and flopped, belly first, onto the bed. You half expected there to be a poof of dust upon your landing, but the sheets felt soft and clean. Now that you thought about it, the whole house seemed clean from what little you had noticed. Weird, maybe someone was sent to take care of it after your grandparents had been hospitalized? No matter, what mattered was how comfortable the bed was and how easily it had began to lull you into a blissful sleep.
As you stirred from your slumber, the first thing you noticed was the absence of light coming from the curtains. It must still be night out which had you wondering why you had woken up. Just as you were about to roll over and try to fall back asleep, a distinct metallic sound coming from the window caught your attention. Squirrels? Birds maybe, depending on how close it was to sunrise. You planned on ignoring it in favor of returning to your dream when the sound of the window sliding open had your heart jumping to your throat. Holy shit was someone breaking in all the way out here? You were sure you didnât even bother to lock the front door, there was no need, no one came out here let alone burglars. But apparently you had been wrong. Your ears strained to listen for the sounds of the intruder entering, but after hearing the window open, there was nothing. Still you waited, a few moments passed before you lifted your head from the pillow to peer into the darkness in an attempt to find the window.
âWho are you,â came a deep voice suddenly and you let out a scream as you whipped your head towards the other side of the room. You pulled yourself up and quickly slid back, hitting the headboard as your hands came up to defend themselves. Your breathing sped up as you tried to make out a person in the darkness.
âWho are you?!â You all but shouted as your hands moved to grab the closest object to throw at the intruder. Your intelligence was palpable. There was a creak in the floorboards as the man took a step towards you. Oh my fuck- you were going to die today. You were going to die alone in a cabin in the middle of nowhere and never be seen again.
âThe front door,â the intruder spoke again, his voice was deep and raspy as if he wasnât used to speaking, âyou had the key?â
âWhat- yes! This is my cabin,â you practically hissed. Apparently your fear decided that anger was a better emotion to have.
âNo,â he said. His voice almost left no room for argument. Almost.
âUmâŠyes?â You said, baffled and a little miffed, âthis was my grandpaâs place and now itâs mine.â
âYou need to leave,â he grunted. Who the hell did he think he was??
âYou- you broke in!â You spat, âyou need to leave.â
âThisâŠ,â he broke off and you could practically hear the frustration in his voice, âthis is where I sleep.â
âThe fuck- well not anymore,â you argued, ready to swing your legs over the edge of the bed and stand.
âDonât. Donât move or Iâll have to hurt you,â he hissed, the floorboards creaking again as he stepped closer into sliver of moonlight that peered in through the window. The faint glow cast light across his face and you could just make out his dark hair and piercing gaze. That piercing gaze was solely trained on you and you very suddenly felt like prey being hunted by an apex predator. Predator, thatâs what he was and a sudden shiver shot up your spine.
âOh fuck. Please, please donât. I live here now I canât- I canât leave,â you whimpered out, acutely aware of how pathetic you sounded. There was a moment of silence where he just stared at you. You willed yourself not the shake under his sharp eyes. He let out a sudden sigh and took a step back, out of your range of sight. The floorboards creaked and you could tell he was settling onto the floor and you felt your breath catch in your throat. Was he staying?? Itâs not like you could do anything to make him leave but fuck, he canât just stay.
âThat bed is the only bed I can sleep in,â he ruffed out from his place on the floor, âIâm not leaving.â
âWell neither am I, this is my bed and it always has been,â you hissed, suddenly very cold. Against your better judgement, you pulled the blankets up and over your body, still searching for him in the darkness. There was a sudden thump against the end of your bed and the stranger let out another sigh.
âThe floor is fine,â he concluded, clearly done talking to you and your jaw dropped open. The fucking nerve of this man. If he was going to be difficult so were you. In hindsight, you couldnât believe how stupid your actions were. Regardless, you scowled and settled down under the covers. Just because he refused to leave doesnât mean you were going to.
You definitely werenât getting any sleep tonight.
.
.
.
That was a lie. You awoke the next morning to sunlight steaming in through the the window, with a heavy groan you stretched out against the bed. You blinked as you tried to retrace your steps from last night. Oh fuck. You shot from your bed and quickly leaned over the end of it, but found nothing. The man- intruder- from last night was nowhere to be found, even as your eyes scanned across the room. Had it been a dream? Your eyes flicked to the window and your found that it had, in fact, been opened and it still was. He hadnât even bothered to close it when he left, if he left from the window at all. The open window felt all to much like a warning that he would be back and a familiar shiver ran down your spine.
âOh what the fuck,â you groaned as you flopped back onto the bed. You really did not want to deal with this shit, not today and frankly not ever again.
You did what you always do and decided that ignoring your problems was your best bet. Steeling yourself, you sat up again and hurried your way out of the room. You peered into the hall as if he would pop out and decide to attack you after all, but you found no one. That didnât stop out from lifting your feet as you made your way out into the rest of the house. You hated the fact that you were sneaking around a home you now owned, but better safe than sorry. With a renewed sense of false confidence, you went about the plans you had set for today which was really only one thing. Food. You needed to go into town and stock up on enough groceries and household supplies that you wouldnât have to make another trip for some time. So with a quick grab of your keys, you made your way out of the cabin. Your steps briefly halted as you cast a glance back at the door. Should youâŠlock it? That seemed wildly counterproductive considering he hadnât even came in through the front and you had no doubt that a locked door wouldnât stop him if itâs been locked all this time anyways. With a shake of your head you decided against it and got into your car. Next stop, butt fuck nowhere town.
.
.
.
After three hours and basically all the money in your pocket, you arrived back to the cabin tired, but significantly happier than you had been when you left. Next time you went in youâd have to stop at the bank for cash, but that was future youâs problem. For now, you surrendered to putting away everything you had just bought. Food went into the cupboards and fridge, toiletries made their way into the main floor bathroom, and the books, paper, writing utensils, and fluffy blanket you had splurged on found a home on the couch and end table. You also ended up on the couch, pulling a book into your hands and flicking the table lamp on before burying yourself under the blanket and losing yourself in the world of fiction.
.
It was well into the night when you finally finished the book with a pleased sigh. The lamp had kept you from realizing how dark it had gotten and how hungry you were. You groaned as you dropped the book and made your way to the kitchen. Nowhere in your body did you have the energy to make food at this hour, so you settled on heating up some microwave dinner and hopping onto the counter to eat it. A fond smile made its way onto your face as you remembered your grandma scolding you for that very action. A soft chuckle escaped you as you swung your legs off the side of the counter and hurried to finish your food. You really missed this place and it felt so good to be back. Tossing your fork into the sink and the empty container into the trash, you finally turned in for the night. Your smile left your face, however, as you approached your room. Maybe he wouldnât come tonight, or any other night for that matter. Quietly opening the door, you peeked inside half expecting him to be sprawled out on your bed. The room was empty though, just as your left it. You sighed in relief as you made your way to the bed and flopped down, just as gracefully as you had last night. Having exhausted your day with shopping and reading, you quickly began to drift off. You were so close to sleep that you almost didnât hear the shuffle of the window or the sound of boots hitting the ground. A part of you knew he was doing that for your sake, considering you didnât hear a single thing the last time he entered. At least you hoped it was the same man. You frowned as you drifted off- you shouldnât have hoped it was him, but better a man who slept on your floor than one who would stab you in your sleep.
He did in fact sleep on the floor again. Or at least, you assumed he slept. Thatâs what he came here to do right? You heard him settling onto the same spot as last night as your mind finally surrendered to the embrace of your dreams. Said dreams were filled with creaking floorboards and glowing eyes.

This soon became your routine. Wake up, check to make sure your mystery guy was gone then head out into the living room to waste your days away relaxing, before slipping into bed at night and falling asleep to the sounds of the intruder curling up on your floor. A week went by of the exact routine before there was any change at all. You bought enough food to last you well over a month, especially since you decided to start cooking for yourself. Pasta and rice was your main meal, but who could fault easy and classic. Not you thatâs for sure.
One day however, things started to change.
Mystery guy always snuck in just minutes before you fell asleep, but today, over a week after his first visit, something changed. As you crawled into bed and waited for him to arrive, you found yourself waiting far longer than normal. After a good ten minutes had passed, you sat up with a frown. Making your way out of bed, you tiptoed your way over to the window. He had been courteous enough to close the window after he entered every night after that first night so as, you assumed, to not let the air in. You found yourself with a stupid sense of worry for the man. Which, like you said, was stupid. He was an intruder, a stranger, which made it all the weirder when you opened the window yourself as an invite and hurriedly crawled back under the covers. You laid in bed with hushed breaths as you strained to listen for his entrance. Honestly, you were quite surprised when you did end up hearing something. His fingers digging into the old wood of the windowsill caught your attention and you shot up, your eyes trained on his moonlit silhouette. He froze, his eyes snapping up to meet yours in the darkness.
âWho are you,â came his gruff voice and the sense of nostalgia as you flinched. He hadnât spoken to you since that first day and hearing him speak was mildly shocking.
âUh- the person who lives here? Remember?â You asked incredulously. He had been here every day for the past week and he had forgotten you existed that quickly? The dude really freaked you out, as if he didnât before. You could barely make out his face but you knew his eyes were still trained on yours as he made no notion to move. âWhat, do you need to be invited in now?â You asked, his behavior making you uncomfortably defensive. There was another moment where he didnât move and you opened your mouth to snap at him again before he hoisted himself though the window in one trained movement.
âYouâŠ.let me stay here?â He asked and you gawked at him as if heâd grown another head.
âLet is a strong word but, yes. You ask that like you havenât been sleeping here for the past week,â you said, narrowing your eyes at him for his strange question. Was he alright? Like hell you were gonna ask about his well being so you suffered in your curiosity. He stared at you before you sighed as gestured into the room as a sign for him to enter that he apparently needed all of a sudden. He paused, yet again, before making his way over to the end of the bed. You almost sighed in relief before he paused there too. He just keptâŠlooking at you. This guy seriously needed to do something about his staring problem.
When he decided to haul himself up onto your bed, you almost jumped out of you skin. You held your breath as he crawled to the opposite side, laying himself down as far from you as possible and rolling over to face away from you. What the fuck. You were about to high tail it out of there when his voice startled you stiff.
âWhatâs your name?â He asked. That simple question made you jerk to look at him like a deer in headlights. But as he was facing away from you, his eyes not digging into yours, you relaxed enough to answer. You gave him your name and you could practically hear the gears turning in his brain.
âTell me that again next week,â he said and as if he could hear you about to respond, he continued, âand every week after that.â For some reason his words shut you up and you furrowed your brows in confusion. Man, this dude was seriously not ok. You might not know whatâs wrong with him, but the emotions he tried to stuff down behind his words made your heart ache. So with a sigh, you rolled over to face away from him and shut your eyes. You would sleep, if only to give him the comfort of normalcy.
.
.
.
When you awoke, as per usual, he was gone and the window was shut. As you got up, you couldnât help but make your way over to the window and open it. You didnât really know why you felt so strongly about the strange, and probably very dangerous man, but you did. His place in your life had quickly become a comfort because it became a routine; something you expected. With a final glance out the window, you turned and headed about your day as if nothing had happened. The open window brought you more comfort than youâd like to admit.
.
Another week went by like this; you would open the window for him and soon enough heâd haul himself into your room and nearly collapse onto the bed. He never moved closer to you, but everyday he seemed to get less and less discreet about his movements. The same man who scared the hell out of you from the darkness that first night would have balked at his behavior now. His movements were harsh and messy; heâd leave splinters in the wood of the windowsill from where he forced himself inside, he landed with a harsher thump onto your floor each night and each night it seemed to be harder for him to pull himself onto your bed. On the fifth night you caved- your pride be damned, you were going to ask him what was wrong. After almost a minute of just staring at the back of his head as he lay beside you, you finally spoke up.
âUhmâŠI know like not talking is your whole thing but, are you- are you ok?â You managed, splitting the harsh silence, âAre you hurt?â After a few moments, you figured he was going to keep giving you the silent treatment so you did admittedly, another very stupid thing; you reached out and touched him. You tried to make your movements as noticeable as possible as to not startle him as you reached out. His reacted violently despite your best efforts, regardless. As your fingers brushed his shoulder, he flipped over completely, his left hand coming to wrap around your wrist in a stone cold grip. Wow, was that an understatement. Your eyes widened as they watched his metal fingers dig into your wrist.
âDonât. You canât- you canât touch me. Iâm not safe,â he grunted out, his words sharp as if he had troubles speaking. His words also brought a flinch from him as his hand- this one was just a regular, non-metal hand mind you- came up to press against his side.
âHoly shit, you are hurt,â you said as his grip tightened on your wrist. His eyes snapped to you in a glare and he barred his teeth.
âLet it go,â he insisted, his glare boring into you with such intensity you wouldnât doubt he was mentally trying to light you on fire.
âBut-â he cut you off as a growl escaped through his barred teeth and you resigned, âfine. But I donât like it alright? Yeah I know Iâm an idiot, but I donât like that youâre hurt.â A flicker of confusion passed across his face as his lowered your wrist onto the bed between the two of you. He didnât let go, as if he didnât believe you and didnât doubt youâd run off to get help the second he did. He sighed through his nose as he let his eyes flutter shut.
âJust go to sleep,â he grumbled, exhaustion clear in his tone. You had no way of knowing if he held onto your wrist the whole night, as soon as your eyes shut you were pulled into sleep, but you knew he held on at least until you were no longer awake.
.
.
.
When you awoke he was gone. And he didnât come back that night, you would know. You stayed up the entire time, hoping to see him come through the window. Your mind automatically assumed the worst- that he was injured too severely and managed to get himself killed out in the middle of nowhere and youâd never see him again. That day was hardest for you. Even as you went about your activities, you found yourself glancing between your room and the clock. The hours seemed to tick by like years and you gave a heavy sigh as stood up and began to pace. He had asked- no told- you to tell him your name again in a week. Which today would mark a week since he had asked, so were you just supposed to blurt it out? As your eyes flicked across the room, they landed in the paper you had picked up on your last outing and you couldnât help the grin that spread across your face.
Ok so maybe this was dumb, but as you taped the letter to the outside of the window, you knew you couldnât back out now. You had written a note with your name scrawled across the bottom of it.
âHey, you probably donât know me anymore, but Iâm not going to hurt you and hopefully you wonât hurt me. Youâre welcome here, you sleep here, and itâs safe. I leave the window open for you so donât be a stranger, ok?â
You had reread the note several times before you decided to tape it against the outside glass. Hopefully he wouldnât just rip it off and it would stay there for him to read every time heâŠforgot. You werenât sure why he forgot or how, but this was better than nothing at least. Or so you hoped. At the very least, he would know your name without you having to tell him again. With a nod of finality, you left the window open and crawled into your bed. It was still pretty early, but your nerves wouldnât let you do anything productive until he showed up, so bedtime it was. It was a chore to fall asleep tonight, but after several minutes of tossing and turning, you managed to keep your eyes shut long enough for you to drift off to sleep.
You awoke to the creaking of your bed frame as the stranger crawled in beside you. You could feel his eyes on you as yours opened to peer up at him towering over you.
âYou said itâs safe,â he muttered out, his voice conveyed a sense of pained urgency that had you sending him a panicked nod. âYouâre safe?â You brain swam with confusion, but you sent him another nod regardless. He let out a grunt before he all but collapsed onto the mattress beside you. You were going to sit up and ask him if he was alright, but an arm wrapping around your middle shut that thought down completely. His metal arm snuck underneath your pillow as his flesh one pulled you closer. You were sure you were about to pass out when you felt his uneven breath fan across your neck. Your breath caught in your throat as he uttered his final word of the night, âsafe.â
Fuck, what had you gotten yourself into?
.
.
.
As per tradition, you woke up alone. Your hand flailed out in search of him, but you only felt the empty sheets beneath your fingers. They were still warmed and you didnât know if you should be relieved that you had missed his departure or disappointed. No, you should definitely be relieved. You had let this stranger hold you in his sleep and thought nothing of it as you drifted off into the world of dreams. ButâŠcould you really call him a stranger anymore? Sure you didnât know his name, but he knew yours and you had let him stay here for weeks by now. Pulling yourself from your thoughts, you made your way to the window to find it closed once again. You couldnât help the smile that reached your lips as you saw the note still taped securely on the other side.
.
This new routine lasted another week, as usual. He would come in and collapse beside you, his arms wrapping around you as he held you close through the night. An uneasy realization that you felt like some kind of a lifeline to him passed over you. It made your heart hurt just as much as is swelled. It felt good to feel needed, even if you barely knew this man, but it hurt you to know he was out there probably doing something so dangerous that his only comfort was embracing someone he didnât know at night.
Like hell youâd take that away from him after he called you âsafeâ. Who knew one word could have such an impact on a person, and yet here you were, swooning over Mr. Tall, Dark, and Dangerous.
His next reset would only solidify your growing feelings for him.
.
.
.
Your belly swam with nerves as you slid the window open and crawled into bed a week later. If what he said rang true, heâd forget you again and everything would start over. Would he feel the same way he did last week? Would he feel safe sleeping in your bed this time? These thoughts kept you from sleeping, and you were still awake by the time he climbed through the window. âClimbedâ was a generous term seeing as how he collapsed in a heap on the floor after tugging himself into your room. The gasping breaths and choked sobs had you flinging yourself out of bed and stumbling over to his shuddering form.
âHey- hey whatâs wrong?â You hurried out as you crouched in front of him, hands posed to reach out and touch him but you stopped yourself. He hadnât liked you touching him before, so you decided against it unless he initiated it first. A choked sob of your name left his lips and yours eyes widened.
âMy name- my name is James,â he choked out, his hands reaching out for you and you let him pull you into his vice grip.
âOk- ok James, can you tell me if you remember me?â You asked, mind swimming in panic.
âYes, yes it didnât- it didnât happen I,â a pained sob broke him from his speech and he cringed in on himself. Your eyes slid down his frame as you felt warm blood seep into clothes.
âOh god- James, youâre bleeding,â you cried as you tried to pull yourself from him to help.
âNo!â He barked, his grip on you tightening and there was no way you would be able to pry yourself free from his insane strength, âJust please- please donât forget my name. Iâll forget it, but you. You wonât. Please.â You had never heard him talk so much and it scared you. His fear scared you. Who the hell were you to deny him of something so simple?
âOf course,â you muttered, doing your best to keep your tone comforting and not portraying the fear you felt for him. Fuck you werenât scared, you were scared for him. Your words had their intended impact as his shoulders visibly relaxed and he buried his face into the crook of your neck.
âIâll forget you again,â he mumbled against your neck and you could physically feel your heart clench painfully, âhelp me remember.â Did you really mean that much to him? You couldnât fathom why, but you werenât going to ask. He was fragile enough. Fragile, you almost snorted out a laugh. The man who broke into your house was not fragile, but the man who currently sat trembling in your arms definitely was.
âYeah,â you spoke softly, willing your voice not to crack, âyeah, I can do that.â
.
.
.
You didnât remember falling asleep and you certainly didnât remember moving to the bed, but thatâs where you were when you woke up. You probably could have played it off as a dream if it werenât for the dried blood that sat soaked into your shirt. Tears pricked at your eyes as you remembered the man who clung to you for deal life. No, not âthe manâ, James. His name was James. You felt your heart ache all over again for him. Just who was he? And who kept hurting him? Was heâŠwas he being held against his will? Surely someone as strong as he was could break himself free, but what other option was there? A soldier? That would make more sense, but if he was military, why were they doing this- whatever this was- to him? The way he held himself was definitely reminiscent of a fighter though. Army maybe, but it didnât feel like that, at least not anymore. You couldnât possibly imagine what heâs been through and what he had to do to get himself here.
Your head swam with endless possibilities of who James truly was, but none of them seemed to fit. Maybe parts of them, but there was no definite explanation to who he is. Maybe if you had the balls you could ask him tonight.
But you wouldnât see him tonight, or the next for that matter.
You spent well over a week without his lumbering frame crawling through your window and as each night passed, your worries only grew. Where the hell was he? He had never been gone for this long and it scared the hell out of you. When you crawled into bed that night, you made sure the leave the window completely open for him. Closing your eyes, you prayed to whatever gods were out there to send him back to you alive.
.
.
.
Your prayers were answered that exact night as you were awoken from your slumber to James hovering over you. You let out a yelp as your hand shot up to cover your mouth.
âJames? Holy shit,â you hurried out as you pulled your hand away. He stared down at you and you could see his eyes boring into you. His form was tense, if you didnât know better you would think he was angry, pissed even, but his eyes gave him away. The familiar pool of confusion swam in them as you held his gaze, âJamesâŠthatâs your name. Do you know mine?â His eyes flicked to the window briefly before shooting back to you as your name tumbled from his lips. You gave him a nod and offered him the best smile you could. He had forgot again and you couldnât help the disappointment the reared its head inside of you.
âI donât have a name, not one like that,â he muttered, his eyes glancing across your form and across the bed, âdo you know who I am?â You heaved out a sigh as you pulled yourself into a sitting position. He reeled back as you got closer and you could almost feel his urge to flee.
âJust- sit, and listen. Please,â you almost begged as you pat the bed beside you. His eyes flicked between you and your hand, his disbelief palpable. After an aggressively long staring contest, he relented and slid onto the bed beside you, keeping as much distance as he could between the two of you.
âYou donât know who I am do you?â He asked, frustration seeping into your words. Ok, so this wasnât going to be a cuddly reset that much was certain if his glare was anything to go off of.
âI- no. Not really. Other than what little youâve told me, no. Could youâŠcould you tell me who you really are?â You asked carefully, giving him a pleading look.
âCĐŸĐ»ĐŽĐ°Ń,â soldat, he hissed, âsoldier. Iâm a soldier.â Ok, so one of your guesses was correct, almost. You definitely wouldnât have guessed he was Russian, but what did you know?
âOkâŠwhat kind of soldier?â You asked, immediately regretting it as his gaze turned hard.
âThe kind you should be scared of. ĐĐžĐŒĐœĐžĐč CĐŸĐ»ĐŽĐ°Ń. Thatâs what they call me,â Zimniy Soldat, he spat, his distaste palpable. Alright, so back to being angry. Thatâs fine. You can deal with that. As long as heâŠdidnât hurt you. With the way he was sneering at you, you werenât sure he wouldnât.
âIâŠonly know you as James,â you responded, trying to keep your voice reassuring. âYou told me not to forget, so I donât plan to.â He opened his mouth as if to argue, but snapped it shut soon after and went right back to glaring at you. âAlrightâŠIâmâŠgoing to go to sleep. You should too, thatâs why youâre here. To sleep somewhere safe.â After you were sure he wasnât going to respond, you laid down and rolled over onto your side, facing away from him. There was a tense bought of silence before you heard him shift behind you and settle under the covers. You heaved a sigh and relaxed, for a minute you thought he was going to bolt and go awol for another week.
âWhat am I to you?â He suddenly spoke, jolting you from your relaxation. When you took too long to respond, he rolled over to face your back. âTell me. What am I to you thatâs so important that youâd risk your life to get me to sleep?â Again better judgement, you rolled over and faced him. Immediately his eyes bore into you and you resisted the urge to shy away.
âI donâtâŠknow, youâre not anything really. Not much more than a stranger in reality butâŠ,â you trailed off as you tried to find the best words for how you felt, âI care about you for some unknown reason and when youâŠbroke down,â he flinched at your words, itâs not like he remembered it, but the idea that had shown weakness made him sick, âI realized that I was worried about you. So if sleeping here with me in my bed can give you even a little bit of comfort from all theâŠhorrors you have to face, then thatâs the least I can give you.â
âWhat did I do to you?â He suddenly asked, narrowing his eyes at you. âDid I threaten you? Hurt you?â
âWhat- no! Of course not, like I said, you just sleep here-â
âThere has to be more to it,â he spat, moving towards you, his right hand shooting out to grip your chin, you flinched and squeezed your eyes shut, âyouâre scared of me. What did I do to you?â Yours eyes shot open and you were suddenly filled with anger.
âYou. Did. Nothing!â You hissed, wrapping your hand around his wrist. âI care for you and thatâs literally it. I donât know why- Iâve been alone for a long time and you suddenly show up and weasel your way into my life- maybe thatâs it. But you didnât do shit to me. End of story.â
âYou care for me?â He growled, quickly dropping your chin and pinning your arms down and he hovered over you. âSo youâre stupid then? Stupid enough to trust a killer like me?â
âYouâre the one who holds me in my sleep!â You shouted, trying to tug your arms from his solid grip. âIf anything itâs your fault.â
âAnd what happens when I have to kill you?â He hissed, âwhat happens when I drag myself here and snap your pretty neck because I donât have control over myself?â
âThen fucking do it!â You suddenly screamed, hurt and angry as you thrashed in his grasp. He flinched at your words, but didnât let go.
âStop it,â he insisted as he leaned away from your thrashing body. You sent him a dirty glare and kept up your struggle.
âMake me, soldier,â you sneered as you tugged harder at his hands wrapped around your wrists. His eyes narrowed as his glare hardened at you. Thereâs a terrifying moment where you think he might actually do it when he leans closer to you. His breath came in hot, angry puffs that fanned across your cheeks and you momentarily thought about smacking your forehead against his to make him back away before he spoke again.
âI need you to tell me why you let me in,â he hissed, thereâs a momentary flash of a emotions across his face that you recognize. Fear. Heâs scared. Then it was gone again, replaced by his familiar glare. âWhy are you letting me do this?â
âI donât- I just told you,â you spat, âI care for you and itâs stupid, but I do.â
âIf you open your window for me,â he started, his voice growing softer, but his glare never ceased, âyou let me sleep in your bed, hold you in your bed. What else would you let me do? Kill you? Fuck you?â His words immediately stalled you. Your jaw dropped open at you stared up at him in shock.
âDude, what the fuck-â
âSay my name,â he insisted as he cut you off. You gave him an incredulous look as you opened your mouth to speak, but he cut you off again. âSay it.â You swallowed the lump in your throat.
âJames,â you almost whispered, not trusting your voice as your mind reeled. He didnât give you any time to think, however, before his lips came crashing down on yours. You froze for a moment before an impatient growl escaped his throat. The sound had your mind hurrying to catch up with you as you hurriedly kissed him back. Stupid, you were so incredibly stupid. His good hand moved to pin both of your arms down in his hold above your head as his metal digits came to ghost across your cheek. The cold surface of his fingers sent a shiver down your spine as they moved to wrap around your neck. His hold was firm but not tight, stopping your blood flow just enough to make your head spin, but not enough to make it hard to breathe.
âI could kill you,â he murmured against your lips as his hand squeezed slightly. You were vaguely aware of the mechanical sound of shifting metal plates as he flexed his fingers, âIâve killed and killed and yet you let me wrap my hand around your neck as if you trust me. Kiss me as if you trust me.â
âI do trust you,â you muttered, catching his lips again as he froze, âlike I said, Iâm stupid. So yeah, I guess I do trust you.â His kiss quickly turned hungry as your words left your lips. A whine escaped you as he dug his teeth into your lower lip, giving him the opportunity to slide his tongue into your mouth. Everything about him was hot and angry; his tongue that slid across yours and explored your mouth, his hand that dug into your wrists as he pinned you to the bed, as especially his hips as the rutted up against yours with desperate fervor. It made the cool expanse of his metal digits closed around your neck burn ever more.
âWhat would you let him- me- do to you?â He growled out, the sound vibrating against your lips. âAnything I wanted to?â A pathetic whine escaped you as his hips dug into yours. âNot that you could stop me if you tried.â
âJames,â his name escaped your lips in nothing more than a whisper. A shudder raked over his shoulders as he dropped his head to rest against your shoulder. His hand gave a final squeeze around your neck before his fingers relaxed and the metal digits simply rested against your pulse.
âYouâre ridiculous,â he muttered against your skin as his body relaxed. You managed to pull your wrists from his grasp and snake them around his large form, your hands working themselves under his shoulders to ghost across his spine.
âYeah, probably,â you rushed out, words trying their hardest to evade you. As your touch caressed his back, his body relaxed more. He moved his good arm down to slide under the pillow that held your head as he laid his body against yours. He was heavy, but his weight didnât crush you. His metal arm that should have sent warning signals to your brain laid motionless against your neck as his breathing slowed and he inhaled your scent with his nose buried against your shoulder.
âIâll end up killing you,â he muttered as sleepiness seeped into his words. A soft smile graced your lips as your heart swam with overwhelming fondness for the man.
âI donât think you will,â you assured him as you felt him slowly drift off, wrapped in the comfort of your arms. The safety you willingly offered quickly pulled him into an easy unconsciousness he was unfamiliar with.
âThatâs a really stupid line of thought, doll,â he muttered as he let himself go, falling asleep to the gentle thump of your heartbeat and the steady pull of your breath.
âSleep well, soldier,â you whispered with an easy smile as you closed your eyes and quickly followed him into unconsciousness.
.
.
.
He was gone when you woke up, but you werenât sad this time. You rose with a stupid grin as your heart fluttered with ease.
You couldnât wait for your soldier to return home to you and settle into the safety of your arms once more.

You get the fairytale ending you've been dreaming of.
You slowly tapped your feet to the rhythm of the music that played from the tiny stereo on the receptionist's desk. Steve was on your left and Wanda was on your right. All of you fidgeted nervously.
The bright posters on the walls around the room were helpfully displaying information that you didnât want to read too closely. Given that it was your final year in college this should not have been the first time you were in the STD clinic but here you were.
âIt doesnât hurt, right?â Wanda asked and you took her hand in yours with a gentle smile. She had been petrified by the reality that she would actually have to do this. It took a lot of convincing. âBecause Iâm not good with pain.â
âItâs just a swab, honey.â You promised, and she sighed, relaxing slightly. She didnât let go of your hand until your name was called. You left her there, letting Steve talk to her animatedly so that she wouldn't be scared.
When all three of you got through your tests and met up outside Steve suggested pancakes again. You werenât hungry but the thoughts of being alone was worse so you followed behind Steve and Wanda who talked about what they'd get on their pancakes. This dissolved into an argument about the best and worse pancake toppings.
You had only just sat down in the booth, the same one as last time when you and Wanda were joined. Steve had gone to the toilet and you sorta wished he was there to offer you some form of coverage from the watchful eyes of the startlingly beautiful redhead. You shared a look with Wanda, waiting for the woman to talk.
She didn't talk, appraising you both in a way that made you vaguely uncomfortable. She was angry, that much was obvious but you were fairly certain you had never seen her before in your life. Wanda looked just as confused so you were sure she didn't know her either.
"Hi?" You asked carefully and the redhead finally settled in on you, choosing her target. You should have stayed quiet rather than draw her attention
âWhich of you is fucking my boyfriend?â You blinked at the redhead before looking to Wanda. You couldnât help the laugh that bubbled up and you wondered where Brock found the time to juggle so many girls.
âYou think itâs funny?â The girl asked and you laughed again before shrugging. She wasn't so scary when you realized she was just like you. Angry at all the wrong people. âOne of you is a fucking home wrecker and you think itâs funny?â
âWeâre both home wreckers. So are you. Weâre all home wreckers because Brock is a prick.â You couldnât help but laugh again and Wanda joined you. There was a relief in knowing it hadn't just been you both, that there would be others who would share your pain. âGet in line with the rest of his angry exes.â
âWhat?â All the fire died from the red headâs eyes and you actually felt sorry for her. She was just another one of Brockâs pawns. Another girl for him to mess about with. He deserved to rot in hell for all the pain he had caused you all.
âI was his girlfriend for two years. Wanda was his girlfriend for a month.â Steve joined you all in the booth. He slid in next to the redhead and looked her over. âSteveâs girlfriend was his one night stand, maybe. Weâre not sure about the details. Whatâs your track record?â
âAlmost a year.â The redhead deflated and you shrugged, resting one of your hands over hers. It was a lot of time to dedicate to a prick. âWhat do I do now?â
âBreak up with him.â
âGet an STD check.â
âHit him with a bus.â
The redhead laughed a little before sighing again and picking at her nails. She looked almost lonely as her shoulders curled in. âYeah, I should probably do most of those things.â
âAll of them.â Wanda told her resolutely. âBut first, you should have some pancakes.â
///
How are you?
âWanda, your brother is texting me.â Wanda looked up from where she was beating Steve in Mario Kart and gave him the opportunity he needed to hit her with a red shell.
âWhat do I care? Reply to him.â She snapped and swore when Steve overtook her. Natasha came in from her kitchen and passed you a coffee before taking a seat on the sofa beside you.
"You know what, you're a bitch." You told Wanda who only laughed.
"Maybe that's why brock cheated on me." You couldn't help your laugh and the joke distracted Steve enough that Wanda could hit him with a green shell.
Better than I was the last time you saw me.
Steve cheered when he won and Wanda accused him of cheating as she set up the next race. Natasha was scrolling through her Instagram deleting all the pictures of Brock. You still hadnât done as much.
You over 21?
âWanda your brother is flirting with me.â You were dramatically shushed by Wanda and Steve. Natasha sighed and locked her phone before kicking Steveâs arm to distract him as Wanda overtook him. You replied to Bucky letting him know that you were in fact over twenty one.
âShortcut on your right.â You told Wanda. In your distracted state you clicked into the next text that came up on your phone before realizing it wasnât Buckyâs reply and was in fact the one person you had been ignoring.
i miss u bby
God, he even texted like an idiot. You sighed, ignoring the text and wondering if it was worth blocking his number.
Wanda didnt mean nything. Sharon was just a drunk mistake.
âSmile.â You leaned your head on Natashaâs shoulder and smiled with her, snapping a picture and sending it to Brock.
What about Nat?
He didnât reply. You sighed and opened Instagram. It was going to be awkward and obvious when you deleted everything. Youâd probably have to call your Mom.
Sheâd wonder why it took you two weeks to tell her about the break up. It would become A Thing. You didnât want it to be A Thing. You just wanted it to be over for good.
âI always wondered why he didnât use Instagram or Facebook.â You muttered. âCouldnât post his girlfriend if he had multiple.â
âHe was good, Iâll give him that. If he didnât get greedy how long would it have taken us to figure things out?â Wanda asked as the loading screen displayed on Natâs tv.
âI only realized it because he was texting someone called Baby non-stop.â Natasha sighed and you wrapped an arm around her shoulder as your phone buzzed three times in rapid succession.
Did something happen between you and Brock?
Ur making this my fault wen u wer d 1 who was a shit gf. Wat was i supposed to do wen u wer always tired?
Come out tonight? Bring Steve and the new evil ex if theyâre old enough. Tell Wanda sheâs not allowed.
You only replied to one of them. Your mother and Brock could wait.
Warnings: alcohol, cheating, swearing, sex a little, Rumlow being Rumlow
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Brock Rumlow just scorned two.
You swayed slightly, laughing to yourself as you ascended the stairs. It had been a while since you had attended a party but after the hell that was the first month of your final term, you had let everyone convince you to let loose.
One night wouldn't hurt.
You paused at the top of the stairs, gripping the banister when someone bumped into you. They fell on their ass while you caught your balance and you looked down at the crying girl on the floor.
âOh hey, pretty girl crying, not good.â You held your hand out to help the sobbing girl up, trying to offer a sense of comfort. âWhatâs up, honey?â
The frat house was almost vibrating with the music from downstairs and she was crying hard enough that her words were unintelligible. She threw herself into your arms, clearly a lot more drunk than you were. You rocked backward precariously, aware of the steps behind you.
âOh honey, whatever it is, I promise it will be okay.â You assured her, rubbing her back in circles. Only one thing made a drunk girl cry this hard at a frat party. âIs it about a guy?â
âMy boyfriend.â She sobbed and you made a noise of understanding. She succumbed to a fresh wave of tears and you sighed, continuing the soothing motions of rubbing her back. âHeâs cheating on me.â
âOh baby, oh please donât cry. Do you know for sure?â You asked and she nodded. You thanked the lord that you didn't have to worry like other girls. Your boyfriend was stupidly dedicated to you, a fact you were more than thankful for. âHow?â
âSeeing as heâs got his dick in some girl's mouth in that bathroom-â she trailed off, sobbing against your neck and your heart broke for the young girl. It had to be hard finding something like that. âHeâs still in there.â
âAfter you saw him?â You asked in shock, pulling back to look at her. She was a pretty thing, young too. Probably too young. Your friends always teased you for being the mother of the group but you couldn't help yourself. âOh hell no. Come on, sweet thing.â
You pulled her towards the bathroom she had pointed out and pushed the door open. Three things happened at once.
Your jaw dropped. Brock Rumlowâs jaw dropped. Sharon Carter jumped to her feet so quick that she almost fell. You took a second to look over the scene and inhaled deeply, clutching Wanda's hand.
âThis your boyfriend, honey?â You asked when you recovered your wits. Wanda was huddled behind you, gripping your arm tightly. At your words, she nodded. âThis piece of shit?â
âBaby, itâs not what it looks like.â Brock wasnât talking to your new friend. He wasnât talking to the sweet, young girl that he had made cry. He was that kind of an asshole that he wasn't even bothered by her tears. âI can explain.â
âExplain what?â You asked coldly. You looked to her when she whimpered again. âExplain how you cheated on her? How you helped Steveâs girlfriend cheat on him?â
âCan we just go?â The girl asked, sniffling quietly. Brock finally paid her some attention, his eyes calculating. He was hedging his bets.
"Wanda, baby." He cooed and she looked up. You weren't going to let him hurt her again though.
âOr perhaps Brock? You could explain how you just left my side to get a drink ten minutes ago and this is what happened? After two fucking years?â You asked and Wanda clenched your arm tightly, looking up in shock. âHow many fucking girlfriends have you got?â
"Hey, what's going on here?" Sharon's face fell when a new voice joined the fray and you wondered if she thought you would've kept her dirty little secret from one of your best friends.
"Stevie, baby-"
"Be careful trusting anything that comes out of her mouth, Steve." You warned. "Given that Brock's dick is the latest thing. Come on Wanda, let's get you home."
///
You managed to procure a bottle of water for Wanda and led her down the steps of the frat house. The pair of you took a seat on the sidewalk in silence. Wanda sipped from the water bottle, her phone in hand. She typed out a quick text and then placed her phone face down.
"I didn't know." She whispered and you shrugged at her before sighing. "He's my chemistry TA and he offered to help me catch up. I thought he was sweet."
"Yeah. I did too." You told her, crossing your arms over your front. You couldn't believe you'd been so stupid. You were supposed to be moving in together when the term ended. You had both applied for all of the same internships. You were an idiot. "It's not your fault. He's always been too charming for his own good."
"I don't care about him. I just want you to know that I didn't know." She insisted and you sighed again. You didn't hold anything against her. She hadn't cheated on you. She'd just been pretty and available. You had been working your ass off and clearly, Brock had been lonely.
"I know, kid. I know." You promised her, wrapping an arm around her shoulder when she shivered. "Someone coming to get you?"
"My step-brother, Bucky, I think. He didn't reply after reading it but he's like that." She told you and you nodded. A loud wave of music washed over you both when the door opened. Seconds later Steve dropped down on your other side with a grunt.
"You guys okay?" He asked. He shrugged out of his jacket and draped it over Wanda's shivering form before dropping his head in his hands. "What a mess."
"Sorry I said it like that." You apologized and Steve only shrugged. "Wasn't thinking."
"Would've hurt no matter how you said it. You guys want pancakes?" He asked and you shrugged looking to Wanda who mirrored your action.
"I think pancakes sound pretty good right now." Steve stood up and helped you both up after. Wanda texted her brother and side by side the three of you made your way to the Denny's nearby.
You all fell into a booth, squinting in the bright lights. It was silent besides when you were ordering and you leaned your head against the window.
Steve began to ask Wanda about herself. She told him about her classes and how she was finding her second semester of college. It was kind of hard to look at her. She was just a baby really, freshly eighteen.
The bell over the door chimed and then a shadow loomed over your table. Wanda's brother had apparently arrived, just as she had predicted. He nodded at Steve before turning to his sister. "You okay?"
"No, you want some pancakes?" She asked and he shrugged, taking a seat next to Steve in the booth. You looked up at him and he offered you a nod which you returned before laying your head back against the window.
Wanda filled Bucky in on the whole story, explaining everything from the moment she had arrived at the party he had asked her to. The one Brock had expected you to say no to.
A lot of things began to make sense in your head from the last month and you pushed your plate away when you began to feel sick. Steve took your hand over the table with a small frown.
"It's not your fault." He promised and you shrugged, embarrassed to find the tears falling down your face. "He's just an asshole."
"He is," Bucky spoke up. "A narcissistic piece of shit. I was his TA two years ago. Man, he really pissed me off, like all the time."
"Oh, I know you." Bucky had cut his hair and grown out stubble but he was definitely the TA you had for Intro To Pharmacology two years ago. The class you had met Brock in. âI was in that class.â
âYou wrote the paper on ADME.â He clicked his fingers at you as the memory returned to him. âThen asked me to check it like it wasnât perfect.â
You laughed and shrugged unwilling to admit that before you started talking to Brock you had been trying to get Buckyâs attention. He was hot, smart and older. You werenât an idiot.
Well, you hadnât been an idiot back then. Headstrong enough that you wouldâve noticed your boyfriend cheating on you. Or so you hoped.
You dropped your head into your hands as conversation continued around you and then embarrassingly enough the tears started. You had hoped youâd be home before that much.
An arm wrapped around your shoulders and Wanda held you close as you sobbed. Steve rested his heavy hand on your arm and both of them attempted to shush you. âItâs gonna be okay.â
âI know.â You sobbed. âI know it will be okay but we were going to move in together and heâs applied for all the same internships and we share so many classes.â
You let yourself cry for two wasted years and when you looked up Bucky had a napkin held out for you. Steve and Wanda made the mutual decision it was time to go home and everyone stood up.
âYou guys want a ride?â Bucky asked, spinning his keys around one gloved finger. You shrugged, sharing a look with Steve.
âWeâll walk. Could do with the fresh air.â Steve sighed. He shuffled up to pay, insisting on it being his treat for their shitty night.
âYou know him?â Bucky asked and you frowned, looking up. âHe seems a nice guy and all but youâre not going anywhere with him if you donât know him.â
âHeâs one of my best friends.â You told Bucky, chest warm with the no-bullshit tone he gave you. âIâm safe with him.â
âGive Wanda your number. Let her know when you get home.â He insisted and you shrugged turning to Wanda who held up her phone to show the battery was dead. âGive me your number.â
âIâll be fine.â You sighed, taking his phone from his hand. âSteveâs a literal giant. I think youâre the only person Iâve ever met with broader shoulders.â
âYeah well, I donât want some young college chickâs death on my hands because I let her leave with some drunk guy.â You typed your number, saving it under Brockâs Other Girlfriend with a wry smile and handing it back. Bucky sent a text and your own phone buzzed in your pocket. âThe second you're safe in bed.â
âGive me a break Bucky, Iâve only been single for like forty minutes and you want me to text you while Iâm in bed?â You asked and he groaned, rolling his eyes.
âGoodnight.â Wanda waved gently from under Buckyâs arm. âIâll text you tomorrow?â
âYeah, do. You sleep well, honey.â You watched them leave as Steve came to your side. Both of you watched as Bucky helped Wanda into the car before sighing in unison and leaving the diner.
Man, when I was like 16 I got so sick of being made fun of for being the fat kid that I took an axe down inna woods, chopped down a tree, and started doing log-lifts all the time. I got strong as fuck, but I didnât lose no weight. I actually got bigger.
Same thing happened when I got into fighting. I got even stronger, and I got *fast*, man, and nimble, like a cat. Still chubby.
Body-building culture is a bunch of crap, my dude. Functional muscle is not necessarily toned or lean. You can be swole as hell and still be heavy. And thatâs cool.
Embrace your inner barbarian. And when fatphobic little gym twinks try to body shame you, you should DESTROY THEM with your MIGHTY AXE
You know, I train with (martial arts) a bunch of dudes, and a few bodybuilders have showed up over the years.Â
And every damn one of those huge shredded motherfuckers has the endurance of a fucking newborn puppy. Fifteen minutes into warmups and theyâre panting for air like like theyâre about to die. Iâve sparred them and every one of them telegraphs their moves about two weeks in advance, and are slower than my dead grandpa because their huge useless muscles get in the damn way.Â
Now. I also work with a couple of guys who are not weightlifters. They do, however, do very physical jobs and are Big Dudes. Picture this sort of build.Â
No abs to speak of, a bit of a tummy, and those motherfuckers can pick up one of the weightlifters and throw them.Â
And theyâre fast. Like, unfair fast.Â
Bodybuilding culture is bullshit. Embrace your status as a giant barbarian and if anyone gives you crap throw them off a mountain.Â
legit the best advice i can give you: feed your friends
any time someone is in any kind of crisis or upheaval, offer to feed them. tell them they don't have to choose what it is if they can't make decisions, just ask about allergies and preferences and tell them you're just gonna make food happen at their house.
friend having a baby? delivery gift certificate to order food to the hospital after the kid shows up.
someone's relative passes away? offer to make them dinner.
buddy gets laid off? ask if you can order them lunch.
pal stuck in a depressive episode? offer to drive them to fucking mcdonalds, if that's what they want.
people in crisis are tired and sad and angry and the last thing most of them are doing is thinking about feeding themselves. so if you have the ability or time or money, providing that is always, always a good move.
legit i do this all the time, and it is 100% always appreciated. i have taught all my friends that when something happens, we feed each other. it makes people feel extremely cared for, and I cannot recommend it enough.
In all my art classes, I was never taught HOW to use the various tools of art.
Like yes, form, and shape and space and color theory and figure drawing is important, but so is KNOWING what different tools do.
Iâm 29 and I JUST learned this past month that India Ink is fucking waterproof when it dries. Why is this important? Because I can line something in India Ink and then go over it with watercolors. And that has CHANGED the ENTIRE way I art and the ease I can create with.
tldr: Art Teachers: teach your students what different tools do. PLEASE.
WAIT INDIA INK JS WATERPROOF ONCE IT DRIES????? THE ENTIRE REASON IVE AVOIDED MARKERS MY ENTIRE LIFE IS BECAUSE JNK BLEEDS AND YOURE TELLING ME INDIA INK IS
-Yo painters, use pencil if u must underdraw beneath an oil painting, the lead is archival but ideally you should be doing underdrawings in a muted earth tones (siennas, umbers, ochres or earth green) with some titanium white added to it. (The white nearly matches the canvas and earth tones naturally blend with all colors on top unless u do super thin glaze washes).
-Trying to make a natural looking warm black? Donât use black straight from tube, Mix alizarin crimson and viridan. add raw umber to adjust for light depth.
-If your into mixed media ALWAYS use acrylic first and oil on top (the gesso on primed canvas is acrylic based and oil sits on top of it great). NEVER put acrylic paint on top of oil, the acrylic will crackle/decompose and fall apart/off the canvas.
-India ink is permanent and if your using ink from a jar it should say itâs permanence. professional art grade pens usually have there permanace listed either on the pen or the companies website.
-Red cinnabar is poisonous, DO NOT EAT IT, no matter how much like fruit loops it smells.
-Translucent and transparent are NOT the same. translucent is *shiny* and a cloudier color, ideal for mixing usually ordor making vibrant colors like for eyes, cars, etc. Transparent is matte and usually a 50% transparency from an opaque color.
-ALWAYS DO A TEST SWATCH OF ANY NEW MATERIAL.
-any paint made with âtrue alizarin crimsonâ âred lakeâ and âchrome yellowâ pigment is a fugitive paint. Fugitive means the pigment fades dramatically and disappears over time, (usually 5 to 15 years) lots of van goghs paintings have this problem. be very careful with these pigments. Alizarin crimson especially smells extremely sweet and like fruit loops or fruit loops, donât eat it.
-gauche is a mix of watercolor and ink, proceed with caution as this material can be an asshole.
-Watercolor can be made darker/thicker by letting it dry slightly in cake form or in liquid form and can be dry brushed if u get the timing down.
-Paint liquid rubber or lay down thin pieces of painters tape on edges in watercolor paintings to Prevent bleeding between lines if u need super sharp edges.
-always tape down the entire paper edges when u paint with watercolor to a board to prevent the paper from curling as it dries.
-add salt directly into wet watercolor paintings to absorb pigment and make shit look like space.
-Always paint in well ventilated areas and avoid getting lots of paint on your hands. lots of paint is made with heavy metals and can cause cancer.
-natural materials arenât always safe, especially
-Ones u collect yourself, do your research before grinding, burning, sanding these things especially indoors.
-use NATURAL bristles on your brushes with oil paint and SYNTHETIC bristles on your brushes for acrylic and watercolor. synthetic bristles literally break off into oil paint and stick into your painting, and natural bristles canât handle the weight of acrylic paint and rip into 15 directions. Use hard boar bristle for the underdrawing/underpainting of an oil painting as it will force the paint into the canvas pours more effectively cause itâs stronger, use softer bristles for outer layers of oil painting and blending, boar will pierce outer layers and is to hard for anything but the first layer. canât tell what u have? clean it up and brush it on your face, softer it is the better it is as doing outer layers of color.
-if you have a decent paintersâ tape, you can prewet your watercolor paper, tape it to a surface & weight it down with some books to press it flat while itâs wet and help keep it from buckling later once dry, this is especially useful because for some reason, watercolor block is half again as expensive or more than a comparable sized pad or large sheets to cut down, even by the same brand
-natural sable is good for watercolor if you can afford it, i have two smaller brushes i shelled out for to try it, and while i probably didnât treat the finer point one right, the other one is a miracle iâve had for nearly 20 years.
-chinese calligraphy brush sets are fantastic for large work and washes and way, way cheaper most times than standard brushes, and it doesnât seem to matter how cheap they are, either. they may shed a little, but they do a really good job holding and distributing water.
for those who are (rightfully!) concerned about animal welfare in tik toks: Wildcat Ridge Sanctuary is a true sanctuary and this animal is safe and happy!
Wildcat Ridge is not only an accredited sanctuary, they have a policy of not displaying their residents to the public. It is a retirement home for cats that should never have been pets or attractions. There is no pressure on the animals to be in front of people, they interact as they choose with the sanctuary staff and vets and thatâs it.
