Golden boy, you’ve got stars in your eyes. Golden boy, you’ve got a smile that can charm this whole town. All your life, you were the star. You’ve always excelled in whatever you put your heart into --- whether it be your relationships, your music, or your job. Your only misfortune is being stuck in this hell of a town, but that’s all right. You tell yourself it’s got to be. This is your parents’ town, after all. With your father as the esteemed mayor and your mother as the respected principal of the high school, your parents wouldn’t be seen anywhere else. So, you stay. You stay.

And then, Jason dies.

You wouldn’t call the other a friend. He was more a partner-in-crime, but only when necessary, of course. You two knew as little about each other as possible, but that was the entire point of your relationship. Not knowing made you feel safe. Whatever it was that you two did together, you did it under the pretense that Jason didn’t know you and you didn’t know him. From drugs to sex, to everything in between, you were somebody different around Jason. And you liked the freedom that came with that.

And then, you read about his death on the newspapers. Suddenly, you don’t want to stay in this town anymore.

SPHINX — SPHINX knows all about BUMBLEBEE from their childhood, knows all about their golden boy reputation. Though they were from two different crowds, the population of the school was so small that it was difficult to miss each other. With Jason’s death, though, they just might get closer. SPHINX dealt to Jason, see. BUMBLEBEE would never be caught dead buying drugs, and so Jason had to do it. But now, Jason’s dead. Maybe it’s time BUMBLEBEE risked being caught to have his needs met.

PEGASUS — Growing up, BUMBLEBEE and PEGASUS were each other’s worst competition and best friend. They lived across one another, and grew up together. Even now, the two remain great friends. Though they harbor jealousy towards one another --- often, they think the other is doing better than they are, when that is hardly close to the truth ---, they remain on each other’s good side.

ANGEL — Golden boys always get paired up with pretty girls. That is exactly the case with BUMBLEBEE and ANGEL. Their parents have been trying to set them up since they were children, and they have long since tired of it. To get their parents to stop, the two have began pretending to date. Their relationship is fairly new, and is causing them to realize that lying is not as simple as it may seem.

Your warpaint for the day: a fresh application of pink lipstick and blush on to your cheeks. Your best armor is your smile that never fades. The world will not see you for anything else other than your beauty, but you will not scorn them for it. People will call you baby girl, which they think is synonymous to stupid girl. You don’t correct them. They think this is weakness; you call it kindness. They think that is weakness, too; you think it is your weapon.

You are mid-kiss and tangled up in somebody else’s arms by Sweetwater River when the dead body floats ashore. You don’t even notice at first. See, you are tangled up mid-kiss. See, it is hard to notice even the most dead of bodies. But when you do notice, you don’t move as fast as your lover. The next thing you know, you are alone. Baby girl, they call you. What they mean is stupid girl. When the authorities ask you what you were doing by Sweetwater River at the time of the night, you bat your eyelashes and hope your excuse checks out.

You’ve got such a pretty face, angel. But not even the prettiest of faces can ward off suspicion.

PHOENIX --- ANGEL never actually thought she could trust PHOENIX. She knew right from the very start that the other was trouble, and intended to keep as far away as possible. But, not everything goes according to plan. A few kind words and several months later, ANGEL found herself tangled up with PHOENIX by Sweetwater River every weekend. Sometimes, she came home with hickeys. One time, when she was less lucky, with the sight of a dead body ingrained on the back of her mind. She hasn’t spoken to him since he let her fend for herself on that evening. She doesn’t know how to approach him after what they’d both seen.

SIREN --- It’s odd, the way life can twist and turn. It’s odd how two people so similar and so different could come together. ANGEL and SIREN had never spoken to each other when ANGEL’s father married SIREN’s mother. Even though they had become something of a family after their parents’ wedding, they never became close --- not until Jason Matthews showed up dead. All of a sudden, SIREN wanted to open up and become best friends. ANGEL might look stupid, but she isn’t. She knows exactly when people wanted something from her; she just has to find out what her step-sister wants exactly. 

PIXIE --- They’d always been friends. ANGEL and PIXIE have known each other since they were little children, and have since been keeping each other safe. To date, PIXIE is the only one that knows of the real reason why ANGEL was at Sweetwater River to report the dead body. To date, PIXIE is the only one that ANGEL trusts. But, you know what they say: two can only keep a secret if one of them is dead.

CHALLENGE FOUR: JASON MATTHEWS

This post marks the end of our challenge three! Thank you so much to everybody who participated! We hope you were able to get a better idea of the characters through the questions that were asked.

This post also signals the start of our last challenge before the release of skeletons tomorrow! Are you excited? We are, too! This challenge is simple: create an aesthetic board for our first victim JASON MATTHEWS. It could be a general aesthetic for him going missing, or a more specific one from when he was alive. STORY: How do you deal with the mistakes you’ve committed?

PIXIE fidgeted. It wasn’t often that anyone wanted to see them for who they were. Questions like these were usually asked of Angel, who was a much better conversational partner than they were. They knew they shouldn’t have been so starved for attention, yet here they were. PIXIE couldn’t bring themself to look away from the questioner. “I apologize?” Their words come as a question more than it was an answer. “How else do people deal with their mistakes?”

TENDER: What makes you happy?

baseball games. the adrenaline rush of an adventure. long drives. being as far away from possible form south side. taking a drag of a cigarette. alcohol. leather jackets. pretty girls. the internet. coffee. money.

MYTH for Angel

MYTH: How much of what you present to others is real?

“I like to believe I am who I say I am,” ANGEL said with a smile on their pretty pink lips. This was not the truth, of course. Nobody was ever who they said they were, and Angel wasn’t stupid not to know this. Still, they had a pretty face --- and they knew it. They had a pretty face, and the simple bat of their eyelashes could make anybody believe they were innocent. “I mean, who else would I be?”

VIXEN pursed their red lips in thought before crossing their arms across their chest and answering the question. “One. I used to pee my bed until I was eleven,” they began with a straight face. “Two. I’ve never been in love. And three. I’m glad Jason Matthews is dead.”

CONNECT: Who do you trust the most?

This was the truth: DRAGON didn’t trust many. If they trusted anybody at all, it would be BUMBLEBEE, but they weren’t quite drunk enough to admit this out loud. “Buy a round of beer and I’ll tell you,” they said with ease. “If you buy more, I’ll tell you everything you want to know. How about that, huh?”

SIN FOR DRAGON!

SIN: What is your vice?

They’d never admit it, but they didn’t need to. Anybody who knew DRAGON knew their anger could burn down a whole forest. They were the flame, and they were the forest. This was to say that if their anger destroyed anything at all, it would destroy them first. Some tiny part of Dragon knew this for themselves. Some self-aware portion of themselves knew. But they’d never face the reality of it, and would much rather burn to the ground than deal with their anger management issues.

STORY for VIXEN

STORY: How do you deal with the mistakes you’ve committed?

At the question, VIXEN gave a smile and a scoff. It was an easy enough question, but where was the fun in giving away all their secrets? They weren’t even ashamed of the true answer — not really. After all, the easiest way to deal with your mistakes was to place them on someone else. This wasn’t something to be ashamed of; it was necessity, if one was going to live unscathed. Still, they had no time to be educating anybody. Without even so much as a bat of an eye, they answered, “I don’t.” They chose not to expound on their answer.

SUSPECT for ghost!

SUSPECT: Do you consider yourself a good or bad person?

What did being a good person entail? And what did being a bad one mean? There had to be a list to qualify, surely. Perhaps a god and a devil were keeping score: a whiteboard in between them as they waited before ticking off another item in the list, laughter when they gained a point. GHOST knew there was more to this question than what was said, so they pondered. For a good while, they were silent in thought. One might have even thought they were ignoring the question. Still, when they met your gaze, the tension was as loud as it was palpable. “Depends who’s asking,” they said finally. “And depends who’s listening.”

This challenge will get interaction going on the main, dive a little deeper into the characters, and also give us a chance to get to know you.
