"well look who it is."
"And what did the factoring cat drag in this time? Oh. Just another stupid zero to be added to the heap."
CRUNCH!
Rhyme looked up sharply at the words, startled. She hadn’t known that anybody had lived here! “I… umm…” She started, pausing to tilt her head to the side. “I-I didn’t know anybody lived here, I’m sorry.”
Bowing lightly, Rhyme couldn’t help to scrutinize her. She looked… vaguely familiar. Like they had met before, if only briefly. It made her furrow her eyebrows and bit her lip lightly.
"Who… are you? If you don’t mind me asking, anyway."
"Shino," she replied, simply, completely ignoring the other's polite formalities, knowing that the younger Bito probably didn't remember her. At least, if this was the same one she'd seen ~3 times, in the first week of the Composer's ridiculous UG chess games. Something told her this variable was indeed different than the iteration she remembered. But it didn't matter.
"Whatever. Why are you here? I thought young yoctograms like you have a decillion better things to be doing."
--
Her first instinct was to reach for her megaphone next to her when someone's head peeked through the open-curtained window, but she stopped herself halfway there when the precise identity of the person was vaguely familiar. As soon as Shino noted the skull pin on one side of the hat, the feeling of slight familiarity multiplied in size until it became obvious who this was. How did that yoctogram even graph the location of her apartment?
As she opened the door, shooting a glare at the boyish figure at the front window at the same time, she huffed in annoyance, spitting out a question in a slightly venomous tone.
"What do you want?"
muse name change: shoujo → shino
(( it's a small change... I'll figure out the Japanese spelling I want to use and a different entry fee soon. ))

AU // Mitsu & Shoujo
Each word that came out of her mouth felt like a knife to his heart. To think that his Composer - his dear Composer - went through such hardships. He nodded slightly when she talked about the Game she was in; Mitsu had watched that one go down when he was slowly climbing to the top. If he could recall, it was an awful game for everyone.
Nevertheless, he simply could not sit beside Shoujo and do nothing. His body seemingly knew what he wanted to do; without hesitation, he scooted closer to the young woman and pulled her into a tight hug.
"I am… so sorry, Shoujo, I… you didn’t deserve any of that, but it helped to shape who you are today and…" His voice trailed for a moment, his thoughts suddenly clouded by her scent. He never realized how nice she smelled… nor would he have ever known what she smelled like until this moment.
"It's fine."
All she said for a while was as simple as that, using a warm tone of voice. There wasn't any need to say anything else, so why would she? In a time like this, actions spoke louder than words, and she'd spoken enough for right now. To that extent, she returned the embrace, letting her own arms hold him, too. Her Conductor understood that overcoming hardships was the best way to handle them, and that made her smile.
Resting her head on his shoulder, she shut her eyes and let the silence stay comfortable, not at all minding a longer hug than needed. Knowing someone really did care was a comfortable feeling now -- she wouldn't want to go back to her old life of anger and distrust without the knowledge that people weren't all simply stupid zeroes. Maybe if she had known before, she'd have been able to forgive those in her past, and would have been able to move on. It was just too late for that now.
In any case, this was still a perfectly good substitute, if not potentially better than any attempt at making friends would have gone before.
(( do I owe anyone a thing ???? I feel like I do and just can't remember it >: ))

His ears focused attentively to what she had to say, not once daring to interrupt her. It always felt nice to listen to her speak, and to see her open up in such a way… well, it was very unlike her at first, but at least her sensitive side was truly apparent. That at least made one of them for the time being.
"You… genuinely want me to speak about myself…?" A slow blink accompanied his hands jerking away suddenly. Sure, he was her Conductor, her right hand man, but… to talk about himself, his life… oh, how he feared her view on him would change drastically.
For a moment, he found himself unable to speak. His eyes chose to look anywhere but at her face, his fingers began lacing into his sleeves and eventually began to tremble. For the first time in almost years he was experiencing true fear of judgement from another and he didn’t know how either of them would handle this information.
"I… never had an interesting life. Growing up I was the popular kid at school, always kept my grades up, and… well… I was rebellious," he started out softly, his voice audibly shaking.
"My life was never glamorous… m-my parents hated each other and separated after I finish high school… that made my life turn around. I got a decent job, had a decent life… got poisoned and ended up here, then realized it… it’s no use to trust people. Especially those I trusted the most. I was constantly betrayed in my life, and I suppose that’s why I earned the name "Iron Master." Simply because I would not allow myself to open up to anyone."

"I don’t feel like doing my homework now. I need help with it anyways so I’ll just get Beat when he’s available, he’s working right now."
Neku crossed his arms in an “as-a-matter-of-fact” way.
"That yoctogram got a job? Where and why?"
It seemed like everyone else had all the luck, but that wouldn't surprise her. And then, she returned right back to glaring, one hand on her hip. "... Don't be zetta surprised if you flunk the class."

"Just what I needed!" She snorts rather arrogantly. "Another stupid zero."
Really, what was with them all? They pranced around like they owned the city/1. Not that that was an inequality for this one -- although, something didn't smell the same about him.

Neku stared and blinked after a moment. “Nothing. Just have never seen a female version of Sho before. That, and staring at you reminded me of my math homework I have to do…”
"Go do your factoring homework and quit staring, then."
She crossed her arms with an irritated and unamused huff.
"Why are you bored. And you didn’t have to say anything I could tell you were bored."
~Tried editing before you reblogged it but that didn’t work..~
"Oh. Some radian is a people-reader."
"There's ~0 things to do. So, I'm bored."
do you have a crush one someone?
"Why the factor would anyone let someone else be that important? If they don't feel the same way, what is the motherfunctioning point?"
(( IC? The actual answer is currently no, but you know, things change. ~ ))

His eyes quickly averted down to their hands as though they were lost in thought. What did he expect? All he really wanted was to prevent Kitaniji from destroying it completely, and now that he had achieved that goal, everything else felt… rather empty. Though, he wouldn’t actually delve into what he thought, seeing as though he really didn’t have any friends.
"… I expected to keep the city safe, no matter who the Composer was," he started, hesitation lacing his words. "I suppose that’s only part of the reason why… it’s a rather empty feeling job, now that I think about it. I feel as though now… my job is somewhat purposeless. It’s not as though I truly have anyone to discuss such things with." A soft, disheartened laugh passed his lips as he ran fingers through his hair.
"Ah, listen to me drone on… I must be boring you…"
Passively, she stared, listening to the answer to her questions, her gaze moving later in the answer from her Conductor's face to their hands, like he had, too. Hers, still resting; his, still holding hers. Maybe, had this happened before she became the new Composer, it might mean a little more. Now, though, it just felt like an addition to what he was saying -- a gesture of kinship, despite their initial differences, and that even though they wouldn't fully understand what the other was going through, it didn't mean they couldn't try.
"It's not boring to learn more about a person," Shoujo told him, "not anymore. Every individual variable, how they think, act, and feel -- is what makes Shibuya work the way it does."
To be honest, she still hadn't understood the previous Composer's view in that Shibuya was stagnant... but perhaps that was the reason she had finally achieved herself the position -- because she didn't think that way.
"And... although it could sound strange coming from me, of all people, I've never heard anyone else's story. I've never bothered to ask when I had the chance, as factoring stupid as it is in retrospect. Everyone has their own world, and I only now want to hear their voices. Since I have so few chances to talk to anyone else since I became Composer... I've still only let my world end with me. I want to change that."
It still felt odd to say all that at once. It wasn't a recitation of pi, it wasn't mathematical obscenities shouted through a megaphone, but it was a sign of the same genuine passion she used to have, that it still survived even now. Looking back up to him, she still had an expression of blankness, but there was still feeling left in her voice. "So... I'll start with you, if you don't mind. Tell me about yourself, your life, and the things that shaped you to be who you are today."

[ Glaring. ]
"What is it, yoctogram?"
And why dear Shoujo.
Why what?
I didn't say a single factoring thing.
[ Just going to pretend that the bored thoughts didn't happen at all. ]
