I know tumblr is upset about breadmachine crabsnacks rumoured to be playing doctor strange, BUT can we focus over here on the fact that taika waititi, a māori of te whānau-ā-apanui descent is directing a film about polynesia’s indigenous peoples?

taika is pretty much the perfect bloke to be writing this movie. everything he’s done so far has been amazing and relateable. (want a good māori film he’s done? watch boy) if anyone can do a respectful, nuanced and informed portrayal of the subject, it’s taika. 

sure, yeah, the team could use a hell of a lot more women, but this is still a pretty big deal considering the deluge of white people in disney and hollywood, so I for one welcome this development

when making and reblogging posts about supporting ppl w/ mental illness and/or neurodivergence, it would be really great if ppl didn’t assume that everyone who isn’t 100% supportive is just being an ableist asshole

b/c a lot of mentally ill and/or neurodivergent folks are friends or family w/ or in a relationship w/ others w/ mental illness or disability/ies

and no we cannot always help our friends/partners/family/etc. the way we’d like to b/c we have to take care of ourselves first and there’s nothing wrong w/ that

but b/c of this, whenever i see posts saying shit like “if you’re not there for your mentally ill and/or neurodivergent friends all the time, then you’re a horrible person!!!!” i feel like complete fucking shit when i shouldn’t have to for making sure that my own mental health is under control

so this post is for mentally ill and/or neurodivergent folks—you come first

take care of yourself first

don’t sacrifice your own mental well being to take care of someone else

b/c you aren’t help to anyone if you’re not doing well

but also make sure to try to be understanding when your mentally ill and/or neurodivergent friends/family/partners/etc. aren’t there to help you, b/c we’re all going through shit, and it’s difficult for all of us
