'Walking Stick' ~ Wooden spoon with twig, Maple bowl, and shoes carved in avocado seed.
'ArrowHead' ~ Carved in Maple wood... one side scorched. 15 1/2"
'Night Moves' ~ Wooden spoon carved in Ebony wood with GITD powder. (Reposted by request).
'The Great Race' ~ Wooden spoon carved in wild Apple wood.
(sorry for the repost... this one and the next were requested).
'Toothpick Cutting Board' ~ Cutting board/cheese board comprised of wooden toothpicks. The toothpicks were methodically 'stacked', filled with pigmented resin and cut into 'slabs'.
'A Couple... of Pears' ~ Sculpted in polymer clay, colored with various pigments.
'Color Matched' ~ Panel created using dyed wooden matchsticks.
'Panther Shotgun' ~ A few years back one of my co-workers asked me if I would repair his son's shotgun that had somehow been broken in half. I drilled some holes between the two pieces and epoxied in some steel rods. The repair was quite obvious and so I colored the whole gun stock black then carved a panther face (not my design) through so you could see the original wood color. I also added the walnut shoulder piece for a bit of visual interest.
'Matchstick Decoy' ~ Teal duck decoy carved from a block of 12,000 burnt wooden matchsticks. Sorry for the photo quality... this is the only photo I can find of it.
'Scrabble Panel' ~ Panel comprised of Scrabble game tiles. Quote from Lao Tzu. If I could do it over... I'd organize the tiles better. The 'background' tiles are just Scrabble tiles turned over.
All four of these pieces were made from an old computer desk. You know... the cheap MDF ones with black laminate.
'Blue Bill' ~ Reminded me of 'Mr Bill' from the old Saturday Night Live episodes. Carved and pigmented.
'Recircled' ~ I just used a carving but to cut through the black laminate and colored with pigments. A sort of double panel panel.
'Seg-man-ted' ~ Same desk... just cut out the shapes to crudely emulate a face. Held together with metal rods connecting each segment. Dyes and gold paint.
'Blast' ~ This panel was first shot several times with a 12 gauge shotgun. Then the blasted areas were carved around. I dropped some dye on each of the buckshot and textured the rest of the panel.
'B.O.T.E.' (Bark On Top Edge) ~ Carved in Serviceberry wood.
'Candle Boats' ~ Sapele and Lacewood.
'Napkin Boats' ~ Various woods.
'Panther' ~ Walking cane.... shaft is comprised of burnt, wooden matchsticks laminated together. The panther head is carved in Madagascar Rosewood, with amber eyes, found teeth and silver wire inlay for whiskers. Ebony transition collar. This was a long while back and I can't remember how many matchsticks it took.
'Diatom' ~ Diatoms are microscopic algae that are responsible for 50% of the oxygen we breath. Commercial use of 'diatomite' is used in dynamite and to help stabilize nitroglycerin. I think they just look cool. This one is 21" x 13 1/2" and is carved in Sapele wood.
'Matchbox Mosaic' ~ 450 painted match box 'drawers'. Acrylic.
'Owl Pendants' ~ (Regular Owl and Nite Owl) Various woods.
'Mask' carved in Basswood and covered in crushed glass.
