Alright so the other day I replied to something and it has been in my little skullbean every since. I intentionally spread misinformation on the internet (joking), because I am in fact NOT NORMAL ABOUT ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROTOFRAMES PLEASE ALLOW ME TO EXPLAIN IN MY VERY UNHINGED ESSAY BELOW
SO, first and foremost - the game has limitations as a direct result of the engine, best practices for making a game, etc, etc, so we're going to ignore the nature of the game's visual nature as a result. It shall be our baseline to work with, to give you an idea, it is not law. If you have a problem with this, please move on.
I believe that the Infestation wouldn't necessarily TAKE that much from the human form. Yes, it would absolutely have to take some things, whether because it's more efficient to remove it, or it needs to modify something due to the nature of the variant of the Helminth strain that the 'frame is, but overall I believe that Warframes (and subsequently Protoframes) would be LARGER than they had been before infection.
Scientifically speaking (great joke, given space magic exists, I know, but there are still laws of physics and the like to enjoy), it makes limited sense for the 'frames to be the shape and size of normal people, and have the amazing strength that they do have. Thusly, I'd suggest that the sword-steel/Infested muscle/bone/etc is siGNIFICANTLY more dense than normal. To them, they probably feel fine, stronger than before really. But to us? They can't step on glass without it shattering under their immense weight - the same goes for ice. Frames like Rhino that are literally just bulk and weight probably leave crunched sections of cement, bent metal, broken ground from underneath them as they throw themselves into a bullet jump. When they go to sit on things, they do it slooooowly. Carefully. Testing the furniture for being able to take their weight.
I think Protoframes aren't as egregiously heavy as a full Warframe, but the larger they are, the more it's felt as a direct result of just being bulkier.
I think that Warframes are purpose built to be in certain ways. Ballas wouldn't have wanted them to just look normal - they were meant to be terrifying. They were meant to be perfect soldiers. Inordinately better than the common man could ever dream of achieving.
Some frames, stealth frames, are slender. Built for slipping in and out unseen. Meant for assassination, and designed to be as light and impossible to detect as can be. They probably are physically lighter, but as one would expect, they'd be less suited for direct battle. Not incapable, but just not optimised for it. This makes SENSE for frames who have invisibility. Who are meant to abuse the fact they're fast, and nimble, and able to get around without being noticed. What they lack in sheer force and tankiness, they can still make up for with alternate options.
Frames that are designed purely for battle, in a "hyper carry" sort of fashion, are typically middle of the range between stealth and tank, what one would expect a super solider to look like in so many respects, and then some because these things do. not. stop. They don't tire, and they bring down vast destructive ability, and don't need tactics, or tankiness, because they've killed everything that so much as took a breath within a 14km radius of them. They don't need tactics, or ability to take a hit, because they just nuke it all and say "job's done, boss".
Tanky frames are just absolute UNITS. They're built to be aggressively in people's faces. LOOK AT ME. SHOOT ME. I DARE YOU. And of COURSE the enemy does exactly that, because this tank is running them down, and doing everything in their power to harass and draw the attention of that enemy. Maybe, just maybe, with enough firepower, you can take that big asshole down, they think. You would be wrong. Because they are designed to do that. And then ask for a second round of bullets, my compliments to the chef for that delicious meal of lead.
Some frames fall between each of these spaces, and subsequently have their own levels of which direction they fall into, and how they do, but I feel like it's a general kinda vibe, and that Warframes are just BIG no matter what. It's just that they come in "oh that's a tall person", to "oh shit they're huge", to "holY FUCK THEY'RE MASSIVE, WHAT DID THEY FEED YOU?!".
NOW ONTO MY EXTRA FAVOURITE PART
HOW THIS IMPACTS PROTOFRAMES.
They're bigger. They have to sort out their limbs being bigger than they expected. A couple doorframes to the skull to remind them to duck now. Being unable to get into the spaces that they could have MAYBE squeezed into before.
Teeth. That do not. Stop. Growing. Sharpened steel that can pierce through anything and slash it to bits, and they don't care that your face is there, move it.
The Hex have a storage room that no one talks about. It's got boxes of files. The files are all kept meticulously, there is a box of used files that Aoi is allowed to futs with to try and recoup as much of the metal as possible for more files. Inventory is kept, and no one questions anyone about any of it.
The files are used for nails, teeth, bits of steel that just keep growing out that are uncomfortable, and need to not be there please. Anything else that might be a personal issue as a result of infection.
In La Cathedral, Roathe has to also use one on his tail, or it starts getting unwieldy as the blade gets larger and larger and heavier. He can be convinced to buff it, which he likes then using the bright, sparkly edge to try and shine light into Marie/Lyon's eye(s) when bored, and possibly use it to see things in it's reflection.
Eleanor has specific knives that no one. No one. gets to touch. They're the "Frondy Bits" knives. They are particularly good for dealing with the Frondy Bits of her tongue. A Nidus Protoframe would undoubtedly partake of these knives also. Neither of them would take a Kullervo Protoframe up on the offer for his knives, as it'd just be weird.
I want more of the horror associated with it. The horror in game, besides having your body change on you in ways that's irreconcilable, and out of your control, is terrible, do not think I'm disregarding that.
But I want it to be clear just how much this has changed them. How they're NOT human anymore, not really, and it's a fact of life that they have to do things differently.
I'm very normal and have a lot of normal thoughts about them (I'm tired and can't write more rn, but lemme know if you have anything you wanna talk about here, or if I should continue).
