Discovery on Saturn’s Moon by Robert Andre, 1982
My grandfather saved a newspaper from when the first astronauts on the moon returned. http://space-pics.tumblr.com/ source:http://imgur.com/r/space/kSjUFSc
A reminder that NASA isn’t the only space agency
I have seen many “Space achievements 2015” articles and posts leaving international accomplisments completely out, so here are some of them:
1. A new type of basaltic rock on the moon was found by Chinese robotic lander.
China National Space Administration’s Chang’e-3 landed on the Moon on 14 December 2013, becoming the first spacecraft to soft-land since the Soviet Union‘s Luna 24 in 1976.
2. On February 11, the European Space Agency, ESA, successfully launched on a suborbital trajectory and recovered an experimental wingless glider, IXV.
It became the first true “lifting body” vehicle, which reached a near-orbital speed and then returned back to Earth without any help from wings.
3. On December 9, Japan’s Akatsuki spacecraft succeeded entering orbit of Venus.
Japan Aerospace eXploration Agency’s Akatsuki is the first spacecraft to explore Venus since the ESA’s Venus Express reached the end of its mission in 2014.
4. ESA’s Rosetta spacecraft detected oxygen ‘leaking’ from comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, the first time these molecules have been seen around a comet.
Rosetta spacecraft, the first to drop a lander (named Philae) on a comet, entered orbit around 67P in 2014 and continues to orbit the body. On June 13, European Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany, received signals from the Philae lander after months of silence.
5. The Canadian Space Agency has provided NASA with a laser mapping system that will scan an asteroid that could potentially hit the Earth in about 200 years
6. The high-resolution stereo camera on ESA’s Mars Express captured this sweeping view from the planet’s south polar ice cap and across its cratered highlands and beyond.

Christmas
I directly associate holidays with anxiety. I'm not sure if it was the constant pressure to impress distant family members, the drastic amount of money I spent, or the sheer fact that Christmas was a day specifically meant to outdo one another through ridiculously spectacular gifts. It was always too stressful for me. Now, one could assume that now that I'm miles away from Earth, I would begin to miss the familiar tradition of the holidays. However, I can easily say that sitting in this ship is ten times better than being at a family Christmas party. I feel like such a Scrooge saying that, but I mean it beats pretending to like eating the same holiday ham year after year. So Merry Christmas. I'll be reading a nice book, a million miles away from it all.

Star Trails Over La Residencia
Above ESO’s Paranal Observatory and La Residencia, where visitors shelter from the harsh desert environment, star trails reveal the motion of stars across the night sky as the Earth rotates on its axis. Atop the highest peak, ESO’s Very Large Telescope (VLT) is seen.

Q&A
I've received some questions this week, some hard to answer, some not. I'm going to try and clear things up for some of you Earth Dwellers out there. Q: Bridget where the hell have you been? A: My apologies for my lack of activity online for the past couple weeks. I know that it's easy to assume somethings wrong by my lack of activity, but for the record- I'm not dead. Q: How exactly are you continuing communication from up there? A: You know, I've been waiting for that question for awhile. For all you guys know, I could be some random teen sitting on their phone pretending to be a young astronaut in space. To put this in simple terms, I'm communicating through technology attached to the nearest satellites. This not only allows me to communicate with "Houston" as you call him, as well as you guys. Q: How's the weather up there? A: deadly. Q: How long until you finish your mission? A: well to put it short, I'll probably be celebrating this years and next years Christmas in space. Thank you guys for being so attentive and patient with me. You keep me as grounded as possible when it comes to zero gravity.
Star Streams and the Sunflower Galaxy
Comet Catalina Emerges
I think I'll fall asleep to this tonight. "If you'll be my star I'll be your sky You can hide underneath me and come out at night When I turn jet black And you show off your light I live to let you shine I live to let you shine But you can skyrocket away from me And never come back if you find another galaxy Far from here with more room to fly Just leave me your stardust to remember you by If you'll be my boat I'll be your sea A depth of pure blue just to probe curiosity Ebbing and flowing And pushed by a breeze I live to make you free I live to make you free But you can set sail to the west if you want to And pass the horizon, 'til I can't even see you Far from here Where the beaches are wide Just leave me your wake to remember you by If you'll be my star I'll be your sky You can hide underneath me and come out at night When I turn jet black And you show off your light I live to let you shine I live to let you shine But you can skyrocket away from me And never come back if you find another galaxy Far from here with more room to fly Just leave me your stardust to remember you by Stardust to remember you by"
Dreaming
November 14th, 2015- 10:50 pm Today I had a nightmare. I thought this was worth writing about considering I almost never dream, however when I do, they're the most vivid memories I have. This time was the most peculiar one yet, but it was also incredibly simple. I was just floating, with no worry or care, in a white oblivion. I feel like I sound so complex and artistic when I write my dreams down, but that was honestly what I spent my mid day nap dreaming about. And it continues to send shivers down my spine as I write this. My dreams when I was a child would dwell into my deepest fears. At one point I dreamt about clowns, or vampires or even aliens. As I got older, the themes grew more developed such as getting kidnapped or dying in some excruciatingly painful manner. But this time around, I was just floating, unable to determine where I was, or how long I would be there, or if I would ever escape that fate. I was completely aware the whole time, something hard to say during dreamlike euphoria. I've spent the day attempting to waste time analyzing, but I haven't found any deeper meaning yet. I'm hoping something deep and metaphorical will come to me, only time will tell.
