A colorful new collection of galaxies from NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE, mission reveal a spectacular menagerie of galaxies during its prolific 3-year mission that ended in Feb. 2011. The showcase, released in May 2011 by NASA, shows several #galaxy types, from elegant grand design spirals to more patchy flocculent spirals, while others have roundish centers or stretched central bars. It's #planting season on the International #SpaceStation (#ISS), as crew members installed hardware to grow another crop of vegetables in #space. NASA #astronaut Joe Acaba prepared the Veggie facility for three different kinds of lettuce seeds as part of the VEG-03-D investigation. This is the first time seeds from multiple kinds of plants are being grown in the facility all at the same time. Understanding how plants respond to microgravity is an important step for future long-duration space missions, which will require crew members to grow their own food. Crew members on the station have previously grown lettuce and flowers in the facility. This new series of the study expands on previous validation tests. Credit: #NASA #spacesci2u

Comet or Asteroid? NASA’s Hubble #Space #Telescope helped an international team of #astronomers find that an unusual object in the #asteroid belt is, in fact, two asteroids orbiting each other that have #comet-like features.
