if you ever feel like you're not "smart enough" for STEM or didn't do that great in school, i just wanna let you know that i failed algebra 2 THREE TIMES and dropped my high school physics class the FIRST WEEK...
and NASA chose me to student research with them.
so what i'm trying to say is that STEM is for EVERYONE. if school wasn't the easiest for you and you're not the strongest in math, don't let that stop you from pursuing STEM. working hard for goals makes you a great scientist.
screw that stereotype that all STEM majors are geniuses who were building robots and knew how to work a microscope at 3 years old.
STEM IS FOR EVERYONE! BECOME A FREAKING SCIENTIST! YOU CAN DO IT!
To add to this, I was told in high school I didn’t do well enough in algebra II to proceed to pre-calc so i gave up on math. Then in college (I got accepted as a physics major, funnily enough) I ended up taking pre-calc three times, and calc I two time. The second time, I got an A in calc I and then proceeded to calc II where I got an A and would have got an A in calc III if I hadn’t quit the class for some personal issues I was dealing with that semester.
that whole time I was a physics major and also dealing with other physics classes and labs that were just as hard and incorporated all of the calculus i was learning, which was tough but I did it. Physics I was hard and I’m pretty sure I got a C, but I got an A on my final exam in Physics II and finished the class with an A. Math and science were ALWAYS hard for me, but I refused to believe that STEM wasn’t for me. I wanted it so I worked for it and ended up succeeding.
Math and science didn’t come naturally for me but I refused to accept that and I worked at it and eventually the hard work and multiple class attempts turned into knowledge and confidence. <3
