It took some time... but slowly, Link began to breathe with her, albeit still shaky and struggling.
She continued the exaggerated motion, nodding in approval before she turned away to dig into her pack. Retrieving a glittering cool Ice Rod from her inventory, then held in out for him to take.
"Hold this in both of your hands. It should help."
He hesitated... but eventually lifted his hands to take it, his fingers weak and fumbling.
He wasn't sure why she wanted him to have it... but if she thought it might help, then surely it would.
The moment his hands wrapped around it, a shot of cold fired up his arms. Sending something akin to an electric shock smashing through the fog, directly to his brain as the new sensation demanded his attention over the loop of fear.
"Keep breathing," Irene instructed, closing the gap between them as she laid her hand on the Ice Rod and guided it closer to him.
"Its more effective of a grounding technique if you hold it closer to your veins and arteries. Such as those in your neck, though contact with your face should deliver an effective shock as well."
Link flinched and his breath hitched, catching in his throat as the chill settled into him.
For a moment, he had the wild urge to fling it away from himself. But... he trusted Irene more than he did himself right now.
She didn't seem concerned by his reaction to the shock, though maybe a little sympathetic as she moved her hand to his shoulder. Allowing him to pull the Ice Rod away from himself whenever he needed to.
"Focus on the cold and your breathing... close your eyes if you need and try to center yourself... Let it pass."
... With some small difficulty, Link began breathing again, albeit shallowly.
If he could just... get a full breath...
Irene remained by his side the entire time, waiting patiently for the panic and fear to subside.
Slow and steady. No need to rush. Just one breath at a time...
"I'm not surprised you came here," Irene muttered, squeezing his shoulder as she gazed out towards the village, "In truth, I'm more surprised you didn't sneak off sooner... And, in truth.. I wanted to come here as well."
