Memory~

Memory, knotted together, a seemingly infinite (but ulitmately very finite) spool, one piece attached to the other, covered in cobwebs and dust, but sometimes slowly changing into something else- glittering, jewel encrusted, in pastels and soft, or sharp and cold… occasionally the knots become loose. We forget. And we don’t even realise, until another connection is noticed. What was there before? What was here? Did I dream this?

More of what finding other peoples’ sculptures in skips is useful for- someone else made the spidery cage and threw it away, I made the hands out of plaster and attached them, and my friend Lilian took the photos~ The photos were for this piece.

The cage is no longer as obvious, but honey, it’s still there.

I used job adverts from 70s newspapers, and whilst the opportunities for women in this part of the world are very different to what they were like then, we are still very much confined in our appearance: in what choice of clothes are deemed worthy of respect, of fitting in to beauty standards, of constant objectification, of when we are “asking for it”.
