REPLY FROM TOASTA - SOUTHSIDE SOCIAL!!!!!!!!
Hot water bottle huggers on campus - the general response to having the hot water bottles whilst waiting for food at the food trucks, or talking outside was good
Testing hot water bottle pressure and force
Testing water bottle force and pressure
We propose to use the kitchen mel constructed for last semesters studio with Raumlabor as a tool for media and activation. This will hold the kettle(s) which we will use to re-fill the hot water bottles that have become cold over time.
Water bottle and water bottle cover diagram - we will use 3 colours to create and gradient effect, we are also thinking about numbering them so we can keep track of the order we filled them up, to gage which ones need to be re-filled.
Construction and appearance precedent - Joons and Jungyou, Pillow Blanket
We want our hot water bottle blanket/mattress to give this appearance - be used as modules to create different shapes, be used in obscure ways, be used how ever the public wants!
Zine prototype - it will be A5 in size and fold out in a concertina
concept imagery
Making the pillow water bottle cover prototype - material colours (fleece). We wanted the cover to look like a pillow so altered it slightly from our example - this prototype has slightly wrong measurements - the top flap isn’t long enough to cover and velcro down.

TOASTA - Southside Social email
Hi Rebecca,
We are Interior Architecture students at Monash University and are interested in activating public space with the involvement of the community. We are in our final year of studies and as our final project for the semester we are creating a space that explores the performative potential of architecture through an installation and happening. We are passionate about an emphasis on unpredictability, play, and the empowerment of the community. For our studio project we are looking to create an intervention that includes activities and games as a place for the public to gather. We've been trying to look for organisations that could assist us in this event, providing a space for us to use without interfering with your current programs. The Southside Social in Elsternwick is an event we are very interested in contributing to. We understand from our research that you and the TOASTA team play a large role in hosting this event. We feel that your goals with the Southside Social is aligned with what we are trying to achieve with our project and believe that we can add a playful and interactive intervention. If you would be interested in allowing us to participate for an evening in the next few weeks please don't hesitate to email us back. Otherwise any input would be fantastic.
Thankyou for your time and consideration, we look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards, Ellen Hodson and Melanie Ting
