Refuse - Speaker
Speaker are an aggressive mathcore band from Toronto, Ontario in the veins of The Chariot with a heavier, biting influence reminiscent of earlier The Number 12 Looks Like You. Speaker combine elements of mathcore, specifically the throat splittingly violent vocals, with instrumentation that is far different from other bands in the metalcore/mathcore scene. It’s hard to necessarily define them by genre, as they incorporate enough different styles into their overall sound to make them so unique that it would be an injustice to call them by one thing, because they are so much more than that. Whether it be the aggression and emotion pouring through the vocals, the almost digital feel to the guitars that still feels so raw, or the sense of urgency pushed by the guitars and drums, Speaker pours enough creativity into their music to create a distinct sound that truly sets them apart from the rest. Keep a lookout for these guys in the future, they definitely have a lot of potential that I know won’t be wasted.
