Is there such thing as secondary and primary emotions? I was in group therapy and one of the leaders brought this up and I found that it was very interesting, they said that Anger is a secondary emotion that covers a primary emotion? Very curious

Primary emotions are feelings that come first, as a direct response to a situation. Secondary emotions come afterwards, and can be caused directly, or after more complex thinking and placing value judgements on your primary emotions. I suppose in a sense anger could be a secondary emotion as it requires thought to interpret the situation and choose the appropriate reaction, whereas something like shock might be a primary response.
