Actually missing my apartment by the Seine today. I was fortunate enough to live in the coveted neighborhood of The Marais my last few years in Paris and it was only a few minutes walk to Île Saint Louis, Notre Dame, and all the beautiful little cafes and quaint boutiques lining the banks of the river. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The dress in the photo is by @heartsandfound, an amazing bespoke dress company on @etsy. The owner Marjorie is so sweet and has an amazing array of designs and fabrics to choose from! They are super fast and ship in beautifully wrapped boxes with a handwritten note. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Shoes are by @charliestoneshoes, a vintage shoe reproduction company that specializes in leather (and faux) flats that look like heels! I never really posted about officially leaving the Moulin Rouge. I suppose because it was really bittersweet for me. It was such a privilege as an American to dance in the most famous cabaret in the world. The birthplace of the actual Can-Can. It was a literal dream come true for me. I gave my soul to that show, gave everything I could for 6 ½ years. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to achieve everything I wanted there, despite consistent dedication and perseverance, and that was hard for me. It was the first time in my life where I had a goal that I couldn’t reach no matter what I did. After a while I started to doubt my abilities, doubt my self-worth, lose my self-confidence. Unfortunately in the dance world, often your perception of yourself is only as good as one person’s opinion, and after a while I wasn’t strong enough to hold on to who deep down I knew I was as a performer, as a former ballerina, a former Vegas showgirl. One thing led to another and I realized finally that it was time to move on. I knew I was never going to reach that goal, to have that part. I knew it was the right decision for my mental and emotional health but I also knew I was leaving some wonderful people behind as well as a part of history. I’m so proud and so grateful to have worked there but by the time I left I was a shadow of my former self. I’m looking forward to 2019. I’m looking forward to finding myself again. I’m looking forward to loving myself again. I’m looking forward to the next adventure. And most importantly I’m looking forward to being able to look back at my time there with fondness, happiness, and gratitude... Here’s to a fresh start. To a new path. To healing.
