my friend (i say friend but actually more like acquaintance) has referred to his parents as “poor” when they have close to $1mil in super and multiple property assets. I swear some people think poor means “not a billionaire”
@lagoonhag god that’s infuriating. it’s so galling that these people cry about being poor when they’ve obviously never experienced financial difficulty in their life. This guy is the same in that he rents a relatively run down house and doesn’t personally have much money (due mainly to him just legit being very lazy and entitled) but like..I know for a fact his parents pay his rent and bills when he can’t/won’t.

good morning to these talented husbands who are both called david and wear the same outfits and to them ONLY
They both dress up as Santa Claus. I can't handle this information.
I really don’t feel like we as a society are talking enough about this
Achievements of people born into excessive wealth mean nothing I’m sorry
I’m not.
A lot of people clearly think that “hard work” and “good work ethic” means being willing to be underpaid, work unpaid overtime and running yourself into the ground for your employer.
A man from uni was ranting about how “Australians are afraid of hard work an d have no work ethic” and the example he used was his friend in queensland who quit a fruit picking job after 2 weeks because he was working 12 hour days for $12 an hour in cash.

I have one aunt who raised five kids as a single mother while working full time and is widely considered by the rest of my family to be not-that-smart because she left high school early and worked a “menial” job all her life but she hates Trump and Scomo and their ilk with a burning passion and regularly gets into arguments on facebook with people where she makes very succinct and well reasoned arguments and honestly she’s far more intelligent than my well-off businessman uncle who’s like “Trump is good cos reasons”
Some of my family’s mindless dedication to defending right wing politicians makes me sick.
Yesterday my aunt said “I love Scott Morrison” and when I asked her why, her only response was (angrily) “He’s a very good man!”. She also melodramatically said to me “If Trump isn’t an intelligent man, then why is he PRESIDENT of the UNITED STATES?!” and defiantly threw a teatowel down on the table as if she’d won the argument with some sort of brilliant point.
My uncle vehemently defended Trump without being able to explain why he thinks he’s a good leader, instead insisting that my mum “prove” why she thinks Trump is an idiot.
I’m so sick of them. They’re all just...so stupid.
My uncle was talking yesterday about when Scomo went to hawaii during the bushfires and he was like “Well when was he supposed to go? Should he just not go on holidays with his daughters?! Should he never go overseas with his family?” and when I said “No one is entitled to an overseas holiday” he looked like I’d insulted all his ancestors and then managed to reply “oh what...what bullshit”. Then my dad was like “SO he should just never take holidays with his family until he has a mental breakdown??”, a hilarious statement considering my dad has never taken our family on holidays anywhere so..
Social media and the whole culture surrounding it stresses me out
I hate the pressure to brand and market yourself like you’re a product. I hate that it’s so normal and almost expected to broadcast yourself and build this portfolio of pictures, videos, text about your life in the pursuit of recognition and portrayal of on outward, cohesive, easily digestible “identity”. I hate that getting likes/reblogs/follows/notifications/etc. gives you that little dopamine rush whether you’re critical of social media or not. I hate how that in turn fosters a desire to please an audience and not say or do The Wrong Thing online.
I miss the internet days of old where the social aspect was mostly forum based and the two rules were don’t give your real name and don’t post pictures of yourself
I also hate the idea that you have to base all your social media posts or interactions around your job and professional image (if that makes any sense). I understand not posting certain obvious things on social media, but I mean things like just liking certain pages or posting memes that are completely harmless or fun but might make you seem “unprofessional” lest your employer/potential employer sees it. eg: I was told I should take down a video that I had of a metal band that I saw live in my own free time, and which was posted on my personal fb page, because “it gives the wrong impression if a potential employer sees it.” It’s like we’re not allowed to use social media just for fun anymore, every aspect of our lives needs to be curated to market ourselves to employers.
An analogy for life. (photos via thecrookedstep)
You’re thinking “is he really going to spend the whole book worrying?” and then it hits you
Fuck. I didn’t get it until the comment
:) More Behind the GIFs.
This…I actually…really needed this. Like. For real legit thank you.
I get such bad anxiety applying for jobs I really want that I almost want to not apply because then I can’t get upset if I’m rejected and it’s so stupid. How do I get over it? :’(
Note to aunt: “oh rubbish” is not a convincing rebuttal to an opposing opinion.
