Handbinding Project: My Immortal by Tara Gilesbie
This really started over a year ago, with a project started in the Renegade Bindery server: people would format different chapters of My Immortal, without knowing what anyone else was doing, and we would put them together into one file. It was agreed upon that everybody would disregard both good design and good taste.
(If you click on each image, the caption lists who designed the page in question. I couldn’t include them all here, but every page is basically a work of art. Horrible, typographically hellish art.)
After raiding a Joann’s of materials I thought belonged in Hot Topic circa 2005 (before it just became Think Geek II: We Don’t Light Our Store,) I almost immediately tested positive for covid. So I made most of this over the last four days, and with varying levels of coherent thought and common sense. The process is documented in a thread here

whenever i see that post about swapping female characters with male ones in video games i always think about this
people talk enough about "gifted kid burnout" that it became a meme, and i get how and why that's tacky. but there genuinely is a specific flavor of pressure and anxiety involved with people being overwhelmingly complimentary to your intellect and little else, and this is happening frequently enough that part of your self-identity is attached to it.
even admitting to stupid shit like "my phone fell from my pocket and it cracked" or "oh fuck, i timed it wrong with the steak and it's medium instead of medium rare" feels abysmally threatening. even though it's totally irrational to assume people find you to be an idiot over mistakes like these.
it does feel like you've no room to breathe without burning the house down sometimes. i blame jimmy neutron for conflating smart with infallible.
one of the most important things, perhaps the most important thing I have learned in my life is that nice people can fuck each other up in monstrous ways. people can be bone deep kind and loving and self reflective and still lash out under pressure. people can be earnestly neighbourly and charitable and hospitable and generous and still find themselves in situations where they become selfish. people can be well meaning and easygoing and gregarious and hold deep seated opinions that turn them into vicious little bullies under the right conditions. nobody is just one thing, and nobody stays one way. every person is a kaleidoscope and they will surprise you. you will surprise yourself. it's not a warning and it's not a judgement and it's not an excuse, and it's certainly not a reason to stop trying or to stop trusting. it is just a fact.
German Greens must've melted their brains in acid if they think firing more coal power plants to eventually shut down all the nuclear ones is a sustainable and green strategy.... truly a pack of idiots...
"Climate targets may have to ve abandoned" if only we had a slightly more sustainable alternative to coal 😞✊
You can't just run nuclear power plants safely for any amount of years just like that, our nuclear plants are all in a desolate state you bunch of donkeys

You like Kojima? His early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Metal Gear Solid came out in 98, he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole game has a dark but cool atmosphere, and a new sheen of interactive storytelling and cutscene direction that really gives the game a big boost. Kojima has been compared to Kubrick, but I think Kojima has a far more bitter, dark sense of humor. I think his undisputed masterpiece is this, Metal Gear Solid 2. A game so polarizing that most gamers probably don't even pay attention to the story. But they should! Because it's not just a tale about the memetic ideals passed through society, and the subversion of the very idea of a sequel, its also a personal statement about Kojima himself! Hey Paul!

Dear fellow men… We need to go easier on the women of the world for their yaois and Destiels. Think about all of the times men stopped women from voting. Not cool, right? Let them have their revenge.
Whenever I see a girl do a yaoi… I just think to myself, what men have hurt her?
