Superlative polls!!

Without further ado, we are ready for you guys to vote on which Paranatural characters deserve superlative awards! The polls will be in the reblog. The superlatives are split into two “Most Likely” polls and an “Other” poll. Please fill out all three of them when you have time!

Superlatives are the portion of a yearbook that says things like “Most Likely to Succeed”, “Most Likely to Fall Asleep in Class”, etc. We’re going to make a Superlative yearbook page for Paranatural characters!

For each superlative, you’ll write in the Paranatural character that you think most represents that superlative. If you feel that a character fits more than one superlative, you can write their name for more than one superlative (characters can win multiple awards). Despite being a ‘yearbook’, this is not limited to students and teachers. For example, if you think Eightfold fits one of the superlatives, feel free to write her name in!

Also, let’s revisit this. We already know the answers to two of those questions- new members are invite only because it’s for spectrals, and they fight spirits.

But… the first one? That’s a really, really good question. How come Suzy’s the only one actively questioning the activity club? How is it funded? How does it get a whole room just dedicated to its mysterious activities to the point where they have a couch and a computer in there, and they don’t know if that’s technically allowed?

Is it Cody? The school is his territory, and he seems to have some sort of alliance with the VP/Witch, so maybe he allows the activity club to get away with it. He obviously knows spectrals exist. Did Cody tell the student council to stay off the Activity Club’s back? Does Cody allow it so he can monitor Spectral activity in the town?

Suzy also doesn’t seem to officially report on the AC and goes through underhanded methods- does she not want the SC knowing about her investigations?

Zach wouldn’t have written this part if it wasn’t important. And the end of chapter five might very well have given us the answer to the only question we didn’t know at the start- how does the activity club get funded and provided for without a stated purpose?

Also, if Cody is responsible for that, how much does Spender know?? I doubt he even knows Cody is a half-vampire, given how clueless he is, but hey, maybe he’ll surprise us? Still, if he doesn’t then this leaves the Activity Club in a vulnerable position.

Damn that's actually really interesting to bring up. We know that Spender's aware of the existence of monsters- he knows about the Cousinhood of Man, and he discusses them with BL and Garcia.

It's implied that the Cousinhood hunts monsters, and that they believe monsters are in Mayview. Spender refutes that to BL (I'm too lazy to go through to find panels), which would imply that he doesn't know about the vampiric presence in Mayview. But Garcia is implied to be going out hunting monsters in Mayview as an ex(?)-cousinhood member, which would imply that some sort of monstrous presence is known. This doesn't seem to align with the vampiric presence, though- Garcia and Spender discuss a "she", and imply that the "she" is a monster of some sort, which, unless they're talking about those minor lady vampires that robbed the convenience store and appeared in chapter 6, doesn't seem to indicate that they're aware of the Jones clan's vampiric status. It seems most likely that the "she" being referred to is the witch (probably the VP), but if that were the case, why would both Garcia and Spender be working under her at the middle school?

I'd say that all signs point to the AC being in a very vulnerable position.

also, your tags are reminding me about an outdated masterpost on the politics of Mayview I made, and how I need to remake it.

ok, I've done it. I've worked out how much time each of the pnat chapters cover.

Ch.1 - almost 24 hours. Max arrives home from his first day of school only a little later in the day than when he arrived in Mayview the day before.

Ch.2 - the shortest in every way. The two clocks we see tell us this chapter takes place over the course of 30 minutes tops.

Ch.3 - a little less than an hour. Takes place between when Max gets up to go to school and ends a few minutes after the first bell.

Ch.4 - almost another cool 24 hours. This one is a little fuzzy because we don't know when Max's scene with the shoplifters or Izzy's scene with gramps takes place, but we can place Spender's. (clock.) 24 hours is a conservative estimate.

Ch.5 - between 8 and 9 hours depending on when Izzy leaves her house to bike to school.

Ch.6 - concurrent with chapter 5, maybe an hour longer since we see a little of what happens after the kids leave school.

5 days total. Depending on if Max arrived in Mayview on Monday or Sunday Ch.7 begins either Friday or Thursday night. It is probably September. If you guys want me to show my work and post the screenshots of clocks, calandars, sunsets, ect, I can but I warn you it would take a 'do you love the color of the sky' length post and constructing it may brake me.

There has never been a plot hole or even a plot tear in Paranatural, anything you have ever thought was an irrelevant throwaway line or background event or one-off character will in around 100 pages turn out to be just another lynchpin in Zack Morrison’s incredibly dense and precisely planned web of intricate plot threads.

I think I mentioned before that Isaac’s original tool was an Entire Car. WELL I WASN’T KIDDING.

I don’t even think he had a power, I think he was just a Kid That Could Drive. I remember there was supposed to be like an illusory adult he could make appear in the driver’s seat? THINGS WERE KIND OF MURKY BACK THEN.

His spirit looks to have been… a child in a raincoat (tenuous weather connection??). And horns and a tail, and big Kirby blush-sacs. It also appears to have headlights for eyes, which is awfully coincidental seeing as it possessed a car. Tools change to look like their spirits, so maybe the car didn’t have headlights before? Or will have two pairs of headlights in the future? Who can say

Also look at those Digimon goggles, lol. Those made it into the first page he showed up on. AND MAYBE?? THEY WILL SHOW UP AGAIN??

The B.E.R.G possessing Max isn’t a piece of the shadow spirit

I recently read through chapter 5, and with the last two pages that have been released I noticed something that I think gives away the identity of the spirit hiding in Max. I think that whatever is in Max is a very powerful, or maybe even the leader of the Sphinxes.

First, back in Chapter 3, when BERG is speaking to Doorman, he exclaims, “ ARROGANCE. YOUR POWER IS NOTHING TO BE AFRAID OF. RIDDLES AND WORD GAMES.” And so far, both our Sphinx of Games and Twuth have powers that manifest through words.

Additionally, BERG alludes to his faction. When we first met the Sphinx of Games he ran off saying that “the others” will hear about this. And until now that just seemed like an empty threat. When Doorman is contemplating about Max’s situation:

He says “one of the s-” Now I’m kinda grasping at straws on this one, but the freaky shadow spirit seems to be an independent entity, but we now have proof that the sphinxes are a group and it’s entirely possible that the sentence could have finished as “one of the sphinxes.” I’m thinking that this chapters gonna end with BERG kinda revealing himself to Sphinx of Twuth to get him to bug off.

When Max gets pulled into Spirit Trance again in Chapter 4, there’s a better look at the background. Sand dunes and what looks like pyramids in the distance. We know that when Spirit Trance involves more than one spirit, the world takes on characteristics of both spirits, as seen with Patchworm and the Ghost Train:

Sphinxes can easily be associated with both a desert environment and pyramids, so there might be more fuel for this theory here.

Also as Max is falling after being repelled by the ghost train, right before he loses consciousness there’s something on his back:

Those could be the wings of a Sphinx preventing him from becoming a splat on the ground. After all, if this Sphinx hijacking a ride is the reason Max became a spectral, and it did so to get into Mayview, what good would it do to have its ride die outside the barrier, leaving it right back where it started?

When my cousin Olivia was three, she started preschool and became best friends with a boy named Abraham.  Most people called him Abe, even then, because Abraham is a mouthful for a three year old and, to most people, it’s the logical nickname.

Not, however, according to Olivia, who decided to nickname him Ham.

No one’s really sure whether she wasn’t totally listening when he was introduced and only caught the last part of his name, or if she decided Abe was too boring a nickname, or maybe she was just hungry, but the nickname has stuck for the last twenty years.  Of course, Olivia was and still is the only person to use it.

When they were seven or eight, he decided to get back at her by calling her Olive.  That nickname stuck, too, and they’ve been Olive and Ham since.  But only to each other.  They get highly offended if anyone else calls them that.

Last night was their seventh anniversary, and Abe proposed to Olivia, and she said yes.  And how did she announce it on Facebook, you may ask?

People used to tell me “If you like ham so much, why don’t you just marry it?”  So I am.

The Paranatural Secret Santa 2020 is finally open for applications!

A time for joy, the secret santa has run since 2015 (on two separate blogs), and this holiday season it comes with a new, fancy look. Sleeker, shinier, sexier, i-can’t-think-of-another-adjective—-!

I hope to welcome back some old participants again, it’s always a pleasure to work with y’all but for the uninitiated:  

What’s a secret santa?

A secret santa is a gift exchanging event where you’re assigned a person to make a gift for, and another assigned to make a gift for you. Art, fic, edits, videos, playlists, we’ve had some music composition, anything you can make goes!

Anyone else getting a real Siren vibe out of today’s past paranatural brush with a big bad? The whole “block the sound” order to Tex?

I suppose it could be a banshee type monster too but the voice was ordering “look at me” on repeat so I figure it’s more like the voice can enthrall or Command than kill, which is more Siren. Also Lil’ spenders flashback to even littler spender’s encounter with the monster before was a watery encounter in mist and and ocean so more points to siren?

And all this makes me think is. Remember when Doorman was a seeing that phone and obviously twitterpated/charmed by the voice on the other end? At the time I was thinking agent days spirit since the roses and love symbology but now. Maybe that spirit isn’t as trapped and caged as everyone thinks and has already spreading its charm magic against the one spirit that control the only other door in and out of Mayview besides the out of commission spirit train.

Maybe the dangerous voice of the monster Tex and BL are worried about is the same voice on that phone that clearly has the spirits issac knows that are directing Forge’s agenda. Clearly she has doorman and nin enchanted and ya been orchestrating a reunion from within Mayview for various parties.

Alright, I’ve got some thoughts! Breaking out this blog for it again lol

First off, that’s not an ocean- that’s a lake, and likely Mayview’s!

The one Lucifer rescued him from! As Spender is 26 in non-flashback time, the event happened 13 years ago, and Ed is 12 in non flashback time and 3 years old here… Spender is most likely 14 at the time this flashback takes place and 13 in his mid-flashback-flashback. I’m not sure if we ever got when the barrier was put up around Mayview, so it’s hard to confirm whether it was the Mayview lake Spender encountered this spirit in, and if so whether that Spirit is still there, but that’s somewhat rambling at this point.

A couple things about the siren theory- damn I’m really conflicted about that one! The spirit being lake dwelling in that flashback is a point for it, but on the other hand…

Zack has confirmed that the “angel of life” referenced in this panel is the same being that Doorman speaks to over the phone, and she’s given a pink and wing motif rather than anything to do with mist or waters. That doesn’t discount the magic voice part- angels, particularly seraphim (which have many wings) tend to have an association with song, though it’s usually not enchanting. Angels also have been dream messengers, which would make sense with this spirit being able to break into the dream…

Anyway, fairly rambling and not really conclusive, but just some little additions that I remembered upon reading this! I’d love to hear your thoughts.
