Pixels and Polygons

Something short inspired by a post.

It's happening again.

She looks around, dizzyingly fast, left, right, up, and the once-clear sky is filled with sparks that haze and overlap one another. The surrounding flora turns alien, changing colours and patterns so rapidly it makes her sick to her stomach, and she stumbles to her knees, clutching her head and watching the ground mutate.

She hates this. Her world, her perfect, beautiful world, does not deserve this torture. She can feel rather than hear the card groaning under the weight of the visuals, trying and failing to maintain its integrity as it slowly breaks down.

In the midst of her panic, a monster engages her - a horrible, ghastly monster, with greens and reds in all the wrong places and awful mutations - and she lashes out, attacking it relentlessly until it is still. It remains hideous, even in death.

She feels the sparks at her fingertips now, beginning to gnaw away at the skin of her forearms, and she tries to shake them off, to escape their grasp, but they hold tight and continue to spread, taking hold of her conscious. She thinks she cries out, but she isn't sure, can't hear anything any more.

Her world is little more than a blur of colours and shapes and sparks as they consume her entirely and her world shifts and distorts until all that is left is nothingness.
