Honestly, I’m not sure. I’ve just been thinking about Ali a lot since I got back and… I guess I just missed how we used to be. All five of us, best friends. Even though Ali isn’t here I thought maybe we could go back to how things were. I dunno, it’s stupid.
~ She shakes her head ~ No, it isn't stupid. I know what you mean. It's been — rough. Really rough. I want things to go back to the way they were.

Egged On - Spencer
Toby shifted his weight between his feet uncomfortably, turning his attention to his beloved truck - the only thing that made him feel somewhat secure in the midst of the small town’s hostility. Spencer’s offer seemed genuine, but he still had his reservations. He swallowed hard and looked up to meet the younger Hastings’ chocolate hues. Toby couldn’t afford to let pride stand in the way of doing better in school. “I’d feel more comfortable if you let me pay you.”
It went against what she thought was right, but if her acquiescence to his request was the only way for her to get him to agree, she would possibly do just that. She didn't want to make him pay, because she offered with no intentions of collecting money. Shaking her head, she held the blue-eyed boy's stare. "I can't ask you to do that." It wouldn't be right for her to, especially when he didn't request her help. "But, if it'll make you feel better, fine." She paused, teeth worrying her lower lip. "But you can only pay me if this tutoring thing doesn't work out." A compromise would surely help the situation, and negotiating is something she was willing to do.
School's going to be crazy this year.

Look, I know we haven’t exactly been that close lately… but the truth is, I miss you. All of you. I want us to be friends again. If you want, I’m gonna be at the Rosewood Grill tonight, you should all meet me there.
~ She doesn't actually answer the call, instead choosing to let it go to voicemail. But she does grab her jacket and keys once the message ends, arriving at the Grill a short time later ~
~ Hesitantly, she walks over to the girl ~ Hey, Em.

I really was hoping not to. I suppose that’s not an option in Rosewood.

Toby could feel Spencer’s eyes on him, burning into his embarrassed face. He knew he should’ve just kept his mouth shut. “N-No.” He replied unconvincingly, anxious to accept Spencer’s offer since he still didn’t know her true motivations for offering. For all he knew, she could exploit his learning difficulties and sabotage what was left of his academic record. He didn’t want to think so negatively of people, especially when they bothered to show him any amount of kindness, but it was a reflex by this point. No one did anything kind for him, without expecting repayment. But he did need help in school, if he had any hopes of graduating. “…I don’t know, Spencer. I couldn’t pay you a lot…”
She almost retracted her offer, sure it was a bit to soon to make one. He didn't trust her, nor her him. Toby's response wasn't surprising, more anticipated than anything. She hadn't expected him to enthusiastically agree. "You wouldn't have to pay me." The cadence of her tone was almost flat, but a small portion of the offense that had flared up inside her had managed to slip through. If there was one thing Spencer Hastings didn't need, it was stress and money. Her reasons for offering to help weren't completely golden, but she had no ill intent. She wanted to help, but it was mostly her desire to get her apology fully across that had spilled the words from her lips. She kept her gaze on him. "I wouldn't expect you to."
School's going to be crazy this year.

Toby stood in awe of Spencer’s intellect. The blue-eyed teen didn’t really understand the complexities of the mechanism that Spencer was describing, but he admired the fact that she obviously did. He was envious of her scholastic capabilities, as well. It was difficult, if not impossible, for Toby to keep up with his academics, since he could never concentrate in school. Most of his teachers, the ones who weren’t afraid of him at least, just assumed that he was stupid. Graduation couldn’t come soon enough. Then again, if he kept going the way he was, he wouldn’t be graduating at all. “I wish I could borrow your brain sometime,” He said, without thinking, immediately turning red and averting his attention to his truck, which was nearly cleaned off.
Immediately, her eyes flickered over to him. "Do you need help in school?" It was blunt, an obvious disregard to his embarrassment, and it shocked her. She hadn't meant to say it, but the question was out in the open with no chance of ever disappearing from existence. It wasn't meant to be cruel, but as a mere lead-up to something she was willing to offer. If Toby needed it, she'd have no qualms about assisting him. She won't expect him to take her up on it, nor would it be out of the blue for him to interpret her proposal as nothing more than an attempt to squeeze forgiveness out of him, something she'd be doing more on her behalf than his. But, for once, she didn't have ulterior motives, aside from trying to make it up to a boy whose life she helped ruin. "I can tutor you, if you want."

Yeah, I can see how that’s… Yeah. I don’t know. It’s so weird being back here.
Rosewood's Rosewood. It's exactly the same as it was a year ago, even if everything else is different.
