The Diagnosis | Spencer & Olivia
Another day, another trip to the asylum. Linda Royce, his lovely wife, had been nagging him. Each time she visited their daughter the women would come home distraught and drown herself in vodka – only the finest. This day was no different and the bitching about him taking time out of his busy schedule to spend time with Olivia was becoming too much. She’d only been in a few days, her general assessment done but since Linda had been to see the girl twice and Spencer not at all it was time to free up an afternoon and make sure that he visited her. It was, after all, with his prodding that she was there.
The story the local paper ran stated Patricia Dunleavy disappeared midafternoon from her home in Pleasantville. Olivia went mad telling the police that her father killed the girl but upon arriving to the Royce household there was no evidence to support that and the local police would never press charges against their state senator. Spencer Royce was a man about town, a man of wealth and a man with many connections. There was no way someone in such a spotlight would ever do something so heinous. When Patricia’s parents were questioned, they told police the last time they’d seen their daughter she was safe in her bedroom and since the girl had a sterling reputation there was no reason to think she’d snuck out. No, tragically someone must have come in to the Dunleavy home and taken her which meant Spencer Royce could absolutely not be a suspect. He’d been at his office in Des Moines all that morning and in his office at the house the remainder of the afternoon. Olivia Royce was simply devastated at the idea that she’d lost her best friend and now she was stuck in Glass Lake Asylum to be evaluated.
When he entered the poorly lit room he could not tell if his daughter was medicated. She looked as if she could be but since he’d yet to order any type of instructions yet he didn’t think she was. It was possible the girl had simply exhausted herself from all her ranting about her father’s murderous rampage. Taking a seat across the table from the young woman, Spencer folded his hands and smiled. “Hello there, Olivia. How is my beautiful daughter this afternoon?”
