Rebranding SOG
Hi everyone. Tomorrow, February 14th - Valentine’s Day, lol - I am rebranding Spice of Grey. Nothing really is changing besides the name of the blog, which will be kept secret until tomorrow (so you don’t have to wait too long) and I’ll be having a new website. *Disclaimer* the website may or may not launch tomorrow, we’ll seeeee...
This post is kind of pointless because I’m not telling you the new name of my blog or when the website is launching (pray with me that it will be tomorrow) but I thought I might let my readers know. I think this new name change is a little more professional than Spice of Grey and I like the new name better. Spice of Grey is something that I literally came up with after school one day last year and kind of just went with it. The name ended up working out just fine and grew my following by a lot - shoutout to you if you’ve been here since my very first blog name because it was awful.
So thank you to all of you who read my blog because it means the world to me and thank you for your support this last year and a half. I appreciate the comments on all of my pictures and read every single one. I hope you like my new name as much as I do! And with that being said, here I am signing off my last post as Spice of Grey.
7 Timeless Trends For 2017
I chose this picture to go with this post because 1) black will never go out of style and 2) neither will jumpsuits...and because I’m very low on content at the moment - sorry, midterms. The trends listed here are some things that I personally may have or have not worn before, but I’ve definitely noticed around. These trends are definitely something I would like to incorporate into my wardrobe to make it timeless. Also, I’ve listed a few of my favorite pieces for each trend. Enjoy! P.S. “Style” by Taylor Swift is now stuck in my head after this post, sorry if it is for you now, too. Because these pieces will never go out of style. Haha.
1. Light Wash Denim:
Light wash jeans are an automatic go-to for all year round occasions and you can pair them with just about anything. I love light wash jeans and have only a few pairs, which, unfortunately, I’m hardly seen in. But in my defense, it is winter here in Chicago and my light wash jeans are very distressed. Here’s my picks below.
- Frame Denim Le High Skinny Raw Stagger Jeans {$240}
- Gap Mid Rise Destructed Vintage Jeans {$79.95}
2. Shearling
This is something that is not in my closet currently, but will most likely soon be making a cameo. Shearling can literally be put on anything - I’ve seen it on bags, shoes, jackets, you name it. It’s very cozy and has yet to be put on the fashion back burner.
- Nordstrom BP BB ‘Dakota’ Faux Fur Jacket {$109.90}
- ALLSAINTS ‘Bando’ Genuine Shearling Bag {$123.98}
3. White Button Down
A classic. That’s really the only word to describe the white button down. It fits all year round and you can dress it either up or down. No matter what, it looks fantastic on all body types.
- Anthony Vaccarello Classic Button Down Shirt {$313.08}
- Express Soft Pin Dot Button Down Blouse {$59.90}
4. Statement Jackets
I’ve been searching for the perfect statement jacket for a while now, but since I have an obsession with buying jackets over anything else, I might hold off. Except these two jackets by Kensie and Alexander Wang are quite tempting....
- Kensie Textuted Plaid Coat {$99.90}
- Alexander Wang Wool Striped Coat {$358.50}
5. Pointed Flats
I’m a crazy person for pointed shoes, that’s no secret. Here are my picks for pointed flats.
- Sam Edelman ‘Brandie’ Satin Pointed Flats {$90} (I think I even want them in yellow!)
- Prada Studded Two-Tone Leather Flats {$600}
6. Black Totes
I don’t know if this is just for college students or not, but everywhere I go in Chicago, I see black tote bags, myself included. I don’t blame it, either. They go with everything and hold everything, too, so it’s a win-win.
- Tory Burch ‘York’ Buckle Tote Bag {$295}
- Saint Laurent Large Smooth Leather Shopping Tote {$995}
7. Leather Jackets
Okay...so this is kind of point blank, but I can’t speak enough to the fact how important leather jackets are. SO. IMPORTANT. If it wasn’t such terrible weather right now, I’d be living in mine. I still should be living in it, honestly.
- Acne Studios Mock Leather Jacket {$1,650}
- Saint Laurent Classic 101 Love Patch Leather Jacket {$4,990} (my true love)
- BLANKNYC Faux Leather Jacket {$98}

10 Year with #MyRTR
As you may have seen on my Instagram, today was my sorority’s 10 Years on Campus luncheon. We had it at Maggiano’s Little Italy in River North and had so many amazing alumni join us! This was my outfit for the event, and I got my jumpsuit from Rent the Runway. It was my first experience with the company ever and this outfit by Trina Turk was so comfortable, flattering, and chic. I’ve linked it here to buy and from RTR, along with my shoes.
Trina Turk Jumpsuit, $70-$80 ($398 retail)
Sam Edelman Pumps, $120
Windy Looks
I hate wind. I hate it more than anything else, though judging by the fact that I literally moved to The Windy City, I must not hate it that much. But today I did. Anyway, here’s my look from today, and sorry for posting a lot of repetitive photos on Instagram. I’m a college student who happens to be running herself extremely thin and I’m sick on top of that. Oh well.
BLANKNYC Leather Jacket (similar), $59.90 - originally $98!
Zara Sweater (sold out); River Islands Sweater, $72
BDG Jeans, $69
Marc Fisher LTD ‘Yale’ Booties, $134.90 - originally $179.95!
Help Chi Omega!
Hey guys! At college, I am part of the Chi Omega sorority and if you don’t know of our awesome philanthropy, we support Make-A-Wish. That being said, in one week, we are hosting an event called Chi O Carnival and we need your help! My sorority has a goal of reaching $10,000 to donate all to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. How great is that? I’ll leave the link below if you feel generous enough to donate, and know that my sorority, the Make-A-Wish patients, and myself thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thanks guys!
Donate here. :)
Business Casual
If you’ve been following me for a while, you would know that this is not my typical style - but I actually love wearing business casual! This weekend is my initiation for my sorority, Chi Omega, so we were told to dress professionally, and this is my look. All black with a camel coat and black pointed pumps; a classic outfit that will never steer you wrong. I personally think every woman should have this look in their closet.

On the Coast
I’m not sure if you can tell, but I am FROZEN in this picture! It was 12 degrees out and I made my roommates go all the way from Lincoln Park to Gold Coast to shoot on a road that was very busy - shoutout to Eleni and Margo, love you xoxoxox. I’m still cold as I type this post out.
Calvin Klein jacket
Urban Outfitters jeans
Steve Madden booties
Marc Fisher
These booties are to die for. They’re black, crocodile skin (faux, obviously), and they’re incredibly comfortable for walking around for long periods of time when you want to look cute. Seriously, they’re my favorite pair of shoes I’ve ever got. You can catch me wearing these everyday for the rest of the season - not kidding. These Marc Fisher booties also come in many other colors!
March Fisher ‘Yale’ LTD Booties - they’re on sale, too!
Back in Chi
I’m back in Chicago for school and I couldn’t be happier! I loved being at home over my 6 week break from college and I didn’t realize how much I missed my favorite city. If you’ve been following along with my Instagram, you have seen this lovely camel cape in almost every post I’ve made in the last week. It’s just so cozy and gorgeous! So of course, I’m linking it here for you to buy.
Alfani Cape
Suede Booties
I’m totally obsessed with my new Steve Madden microsuede boots. The heel may look high, but trust me, they’re incredibly comfortable to walk in. The best part, they’re under $100! Buy them here:

Maybelline via Influenster
Today’s post is about my first complimentary couple products that I received from Influenster. I’ve had an account since the summer with this site, though I didn’t really do anything with it until about two weeks ago. I reviewed some products, then got an email letting me know about the custom Maybelline VoxBox! What was sent to me was a mascara and an eyeliner, which I tried out today.
The mascara is fantastic and really enhances your eyelashes to the full extent. My lashes are already pretty long naturally, so wearing the Colossal Big Shot mascara by Maybelline, they looked like they were fake! I love it already. Next was the Master Precise liquid eyeliner. Since I am not usually one to wear eyeliner, I tested it out on my hand - and my sister - and I have to say that the quality is amazing. It goes on smoothly like paint and dries very quickly, which is great if you’re good at makeup. I’m doing my best to learn the ways of makeup, so I’m sure this product will come in handy soon. Overall, I love these Maybelline products.
