Why This Photo Became My Avatar 💍
Hi again… it’s only been a day and I’m already back. I guess that’s the point of this space — when something’s on my mind, I can just write it.
I wanted to explain why I chose this picture as my avatar (and header image). It’s not the most revealing photo I have, but it feels right for right now.
I’m lying on the floor in our bedroom, black socks, legs kicked up behind me, phone in hand. You can see the little gold jewelry I love wearing — the delicate chains around my neck, the bracelets that jingle when I move, the small hoop earrings. My hair is half-up with that sparkly clip. No face, just enough of me to feel exposed without giving everything away.
I took it a few weeks ago on a random afternoon when my husband was out. I posed this way on purpose — I know he likes when I highlight certain things for him. So I sent him the photo while he was still gone. When he got home later that evening it had exactly the desired effect. That quiet, intense look he gets… the one that tells me I succeeded.
He’s the reason this photo feels special to me. He didn’t push me to post it, but when we talked about starting this blog he said something like “use a picture that feels like you.” So here it is — my avatar.
It’s intimate without being fully naked. It shows the version of me that’s playful and a little vain and curious about being seen. Choosing this photo felt like my first real step into making this diary public. It’s me saying: here’s a piece of how I see myself. Here’s a piece I’m comfortable sharing with strangers… and with you, quietly watching.
I wonder who else will look at it and what they’ll think.
