fascinating how often men expect women to sympathize with their fears of being perceived as or treated like a woman
so much "masculinity" is constructed around the certainty that being gay or being a woman is inherently demeaning. and we're supposed to nod along supportively
"male loneliness crisis" ok so like.....what would happen if you started acting like a better friend to other men in your life? what's stopping you? is it the fear of being perceived as one of your inferiors?
"men aren't allowed to show emotions" ok so like…..what would happen if you started being more emotionally expressive? what's stopping you? is it the fear of being perceived as one of your inferiors?
#patriarchy hurts men #patriarchy hurts boys
i think you've VERY fundamentally misunderstood the point of my post tbh
men and boys first and foremost hurt themselves to avoid being perceived as their lessers (i.e. women and gay men)
they could stop. but the punishment is being perceived as one of us, and that would be just terrible. so they won't.
i'm fucking tired of being expected to endlessly wring my hands over the poor men who are hurt by patriarchy toooooo...when the only penalty they really face is being treated like the people they consider subhuman (women and gay men)
the Only way men will ever stop "being oppressed by the patriarchy" is if they dismantle the idea that women and gay men are inferior
once a man decides that there's nothing wrong with being seen as gay or a woman, the power of "the patriarchy" over their lives is vastly diminished
but you cannot force your oppressors to stop seeing you as a subhuman. this is something men have to choose for themselves
and they overwhelmingly do not. because when they're not playing victim/wounded bird about the circumstances of their gender, they fundamentally understand that they benefit from patriarchy far more than they are harmed by it
"ok so like…..what would happen if you started being more emotionally expressive?" based on both my experience from back when i was a cis dude, mockery and ostracization
how did they mock you? what specifically were they saying about you?
see the thing is even when you disagree with the misogyny and homophobia, someone telling you to suck it up and stop being a whiny bitch still hurts, being made fun of for being perceived as gay still hurts, being shunned and othered fucking hurts. you don't have to believe anyone is inferior to you for someone treating you like you're inferior to them in a social hierarchy to be obvious and hurtful
what do you think they’re implying when they call a man a bitch? why would it upset someone to be called gay?
these personal injuries are only effective and meaningful if you buy into the underlying ideology
there is no end to this without dismantling the social hierarchy you’re referencing. and to accomplish that, men may have to actually work to change their preconceived notions about gender and sexuality
you don't have to believe anyone is inferior to you for someone treating you like you're inferior to them in a social hierarchy to be obvious and hurtful
these personal injuries are only effective and meaningful if you buy into the underlying ideology
yeah and sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me, right?
and rejecting the underlying ideology won't stop you from being ostracized and socially isolated for failure to perform your prescribed social roles
ok you’re so right, men should never try to change the status quo because they might feel bad sometimes. noted 🫡
