In this world, tainted by the Fears, Twilight’s childhood ended with a fateful accident. The Rainboom, the event that ties all other together, stemmed from a different source. This cataclysmically rearranged the flow of fate and future, coalescing into a very unassuming Unicorn. She became a conduit for incomprehensible power, doomed to a life of dread and fear, if not for Princess Celestia, who saw potential and power. Twilight became Princess Celestia’s personal student.
With no memories of the event, inexplicably changed and somehow chosen by her role model, Twilight did everything she could to make her mentor proud, sometimes barely questioning what Celestia asked of her.
Despite this, Twilight was still an outsider. Unbeknownst to her, fillies her age found her deeply unsettling, in a primal way. It started as whispers behind her back, rumours of the strange creature Celestia had taken on. Whose stares were too long, too deep. Who barely seemed to breathe, whose eyes glimmered in the dark. Like a beast, a monster. Yet no one was unable to resist her questions and found themselves pulled by her words.
No one wanted anything to do with her. Despite Celestias pushes and reassurances, Twilight did not want to impede. She was deeply anxious and did not want anyone to pretend to be her friend.
Her own parents had started to show similar symptoms, hair standing on end when she entered a room, shooting her sidelong glances. Twilight retreated to her tower in the castle and stayed there. It wasn’t until Celestia introduced her to the Castle’s forbidden library that Twilight found her true passion. The pursuit of knowledge.
Here she spent all her time, learning and seeking out new spells and old magics long forgotten by modern magicians. It was beautiful, old mahogany creaking with each step, the scent of old leather like home.
Twilight became an archive in her own right, a unicorn with memory crystal clear and a hunger for old stories that marked her as a brilliant scholar, even at her young age.
Twilight had never been more content and excited for each day.
Celestia had never been more proud.
Until she did the unthinkable.
“Twilight, for you next task, I am assigning you to meet with Peers of your kind.”
