The Champagne Bureau Australia held an elegant gala black tie dinner at The Pavilion in Sydney to announce the two winners of the Vin de Champagne Awards for 2012. Dan Buckle (Winemaker, Domaine Chandon) from Victoria was awarded the title in the professional category designated for people who gain income from the food and wine industry, while Matthew Stutsel (KPMG) from NSW won the amateur category for those who have a passion for Champagne. They received a two-week educational tour to the Champagne region in France where they will be awarded their medal from Le Comité Champagne.

England have always had a love affair with sparkling, especially that some claim that it was the English who first discovered sparkling wine and not the French. Not our job to say if it is true however we decided to put the theory to the test by ordering a bottle of sparkling from England, YES it was shipped directly from bibendum-wine.co.uk . Queensland is known for its sunshine, beaches, creeks, wild animals, zoos, the barrier reef, attempts at rugby league and defeating the blues every now and again when they get a lucky break. However ask any Australian whether they think Queensland produces wine and a high a percentage will surely say "no". In this video you'll discover that they are indeed producing quality wine. Join us for this episode where we travel to Westend Estate to meet with Andrew Calabria who shares with us a little about the history of the winery, and of table wine, and how it was introduced into Australia in general. Earlier in the day, Ken was kept busy for a few hours while he tasted a vertical of '3 Bridges' Duriff, followed by Botrytis sweet wines. In this episode we will quickly run through both verticals in summary with winemaker Bryan Currie. We also touch on two new wines which have been produced from a variety called Aglianico which comes from the region of Calabria in Italy. There's a lot to get through in this episode, and a lot of wines - but it's worth it if you are interested in learning about the various vintages over the last 10 or so years and the results on the wines. In this episode we will reviewing the Battle of Bosworth Clarence Sticky Sweet Semillon wine from 2010.  This isn't a Botrytis wine - it differs in that the grapes are left on the vine for longer for the sugars to build up.
