And when she sang, the whole world faded.
Crown of Midnight, Sarah J. Maas (via words-and-coffee)
Ezra nodded as Mia spoke, something he deemed important when receiving advice from someone was to ensure they knew you were listening and absorbing the information. “Right,” He agreed as Mia spotted the flaw in his range. “So, move the breath a little further down so I keep the power into that line?” He confirmed before backing the track up to the point they were working on and trying again. “–Throw ‘em back, till I lose count, I’m gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier, I’m gonna live like tomorrow doesn’t exist, like it doesn’t exist, I’m gonna fly like a bird through the night, feel my tears as they dry, I’m gonna swing from the chandelier, from the chandelier– But I’m holding on for dear life, won’t look down won’t open my eyes, keep my glass full until morning light, 'cause I’m just holding on for tonight,” He rounded it off before turning back around to the red-head. “Hey, that works so much better!” He exclaimed happily.
Mia stayed silent as she listened to the boy sing, her smile widening as he hit the note perfectly this time. “There you go... Now just do that for the show; and you’re more than solo bound come fall.”
“You don’t even find anyone, like, attractive or anything? It doesn’t have to be a crush, like full out crush. Just… someone you think is cute and wanna kiss.”
“I mean, sure. There’s a few people I think are cute; but that doesn’t necessarily mean I wanna kiss them.”
“Yeah, definitely don’t count them. If it’s forced like that, it’s not really a kiss. It’s a, um… stage kiss? Is that what they call it? Is there someone you want to be your first kiss?”
“You mean like do I have any crushes? Not really.”
“Well, I’ve never been in a play or whatever so that’s never happened to me. But I’d only count it if you liked the person you were kissin’ and if they liked you back– or if they were the ones kissin’ you and they had a thing for you.”
“Hmm... Nope. I still don’t think any of mine counted. All the guys in drama are either like my brothers or gay.”
“You’ve never been kissed?”
“Only during theatre productions; but I don’t think stage kissing really counts.”
“… So… you don’t wanna make out?”
“Don’t take it personally; but not really... Just because I don’t want my first real kiss being with a stranger.”
“Well, typically when someone stares at another person, there’s either something wrong with the person being stared at or the person doing the staring likes ‘em. There’s really nothing wrong with me, so I figured it was the latter. So, y’know, why not; right?”
“I wasn’t staring at you... I hate to be disappointing; but sometimes when I start running lines in my head, I zone out for a bit.”
“Why would I be joking?”
“Okay... So if you’re not joking, then why randomly ask me to make out with you?”
“It’s nice to meet you properly,” Ezra smiled as she walked in further. “So– it’s the bit that comes down from the high ‘Chandelier’ to the ‘I’m holding on for dear life, won’t look down won’t open my eyes’” He explained, singing both parts respectively.
Mia listened to Ezra sing the part he was having difficulties with. Honestly, he sounded pretty good to her ears; though he went a little flat during the change. “Not bad. Not bad.” She nodded, offering him a reassuring smile. “But you get a little flat coming into the change. Try it again; but this time focus more on But I'm holding on for dear life... Your voice seems to lose its strength by the first half of that line; and you go flat for a few notes. Fix that; and you’ll be well on your way to landing a solo for the fall concert.”
“Me and you,” he pointed at the both of them with both fingers, switching who he was pointing at – one finger pointing at her while the other was pointing at him – when he spoke, “playin’ a lil’ tonsil hockey.”
“This isn’t some sort of joke, is it?”
“I was probably about to screw up anyway, there’s a really hard key change in that verse,” Ezra chuckled softly as he looked up at Mia. “Yes, Ezra and you’re, um– Mia, right?” He exclaimed happily recognising her hair more than anything. “D’you think you could help me nail that change?” The boy asked hopefully, assuming that the red-head was also here to practice for the show tomorrow.
Mia nodded and walked further into the music room. “That’s me.” She responded, a small smile beginning to form upon her face at the boy’s question. “Of course I’ll help. I came in here to rehearse anyway.”
After being tasked with a solo during the Choirs’ performance for the graduation ceremony later that day, Ezra had been in the music room most of the morning practicing. {x} Having recorded himself playing the backing to Sia’s ‘Chandelier’, which is what they would be singing, he was so involved in the music he did not hear another person come into the room. It wasn’t until he turned around that he noticed and laughed, blushing as he was feeling a little embarrassed.
“Don’t stop on just because of me” Mia smiled, entering the music room as she heard the younger boy singing. “It’s Ezra, right?” She recognized him from choir practices; but she had never really heard him sing solo. His voice was beyond fantastic.
“So… you wanna makeout now or are you just gonna keep staring at me?”
“What?”
“Hey... You okay there?”
