“Miss Mackenzie.” She repeated with a nod. Hane started feeling a little overwhelmed. ‘She keeps bringing up the relative thing…this might not be good. Oh…I should be more careful next time…’ She mentally scolded herself as Mackenzie went on talking. They were closer to the main building when Mackenzie began prying again. “Others…like me? Visiting family? I’m not sure… I don’t really leave my cousin’s side too often and I only just got here not too long ago.” Hane needed to be careful. If they did happened to run into Judai, she’d need to be able to tell him all of this quickly somehow. She needed him playing along because at the moment, anyone would be able to see her. It’d be quite a mess if he happened to say something. “If you need help finding anything, I’m sure one the student wouldn’t mind showing you when we get to campus. I don’t know my way around too well.” Hane laughed and pretended to readjust fake arm straps for her wings so she could move them. They were beginning to get stiff.

Shit. A slip-up. A minor one, but a slip up nonetheless. Inexcusable. Reggie regained herself, plastered on a smile and forced a laugh. "I just meant others like you who just showed up on this island who are visiting their relatives." A giggle that neared on condescending was meant to brush the whole thing off as a joke, a misunderstanding, a redirection.

Unallowable. Failure of this mission was described as, without pardon, unallowable. Suggesting being pawned off to another useless student, the direction could not take that turn. If things were to go as needed, subtle might not cut it anymore. While her approach, contrast to the blunt method of David's, relied on slow, steady, rational information gathering, things needed to be stepped up.

"I'd like to duel your relative as soon as possible." The corners of her mouth fell as her fabricated smile dissipated. A slight remnant of that kind warm look remained, but a seriousness took hold. While her character changed, her shift in demeanor was subtle, potentially unnoticeable. Simply an abrupt topic change. "You're sure this is the right way?"

At the appearance of a woman Manjoume took notice of the earring she was wearing as it looked to be an exact replica of one he had seen someone else wear earlier. Brushing the thought off as useless he walked over to the blonde, and grinned as he introduced himself. 

“Most likely you’ve heard of me, but I’m Manjoume Jun, who might you be?” He boasted, pride evident in his voice. Soon after he introduced himself it occurred to him that speaking to this stranger was a bad idea.

It was just a nagging feeling in the back of his mind, but it was enough to make him shudder, imaginary danger cast upon him by silly thoughts. He placed his hand on his hips trying to pass of the image of being completely calm to anyone who might be around him.

A grin curled at the edge of Reggie's lips as she giggled, entertained by the obviously arrogant child before her. The name did sound familiar, recognizable perhaps from Tenjoin talking about his 'alma-mater'. "No, doesn't seem to ring a bell, sad to say."

Emotional limits were things to be tested. Anger, embarrassment, depression, all could trigger someone to talk in the heat of the moment. Simply cutting his arrogance was a simple action, but whether he leaned towards anger, disdain, humility, it was all valuable information. "But," the clack of her heels against concrete grew a step closer, "I wouldn't mind learning of the apparently infamous exploits of... Minjoume John was it?"

Making friends never hurts.

A glint of light shone in the corner of her left eye, swinging from dangling silver.

Hane Kuriboh walked along side Reggie silently having a debate in her head on what to do next. She knew she was going to lead her towards the main building first. Her chances of finding her ‘relative’ at the dorms were better so taking a detour made sense to her, at least. As they continued, she figured getting away might not be as easy as she had first hoped. She wasn’t used to somebody being so interested in her, she still wasn’t used to people seeing her for that matter. Hane was not liking the attention. She had to get Reggie off track. Maybe find out why she was so interested in any relative of hers. Especially if she all she really wanted was a duel.”So you mention you had been wanting a strong duel since coming here? Are you new the Academy, Miss…um…” she looked up confused wondering what she should call the older. Was ‘Miss’ even appropriate? Hane brought a hand to her face a little lost in thought over it.

"Mackenzie." This consistent smile was starting to hurt her cheeks. Well, maybe keeping up a constant pleasant, positive attitude could be considered suspicious. She flashed her teeth once more to keep up the facade before dropping the corners of her lips. Keeping up appearances, however, was nothing new for Reggie. Collecting information was easy.

"Yes, I am new to this Academy, so I'm glad to have a guide like you to show me around," a quick, well-disguised fake giggle came from Reggie's returned smile. Keep suspicion low, smile to keep up appearances, but don't overdo it. "I'm quite an avid duelist, and I like to think I'm at least a challenge for most duelists," at the very least, "so if your relative is as strong as you say he is, I'd love to challenge him!"

Things were going smoothly. The only thing that could interrupt the progress would be the untimely appearance of the tactless adoptive brother of hers.

Within moments, plodding through this forest with this childlike creature attached to her arm would all pay off. A mere duel away. In the meantime, however, Reggie needed to know, "Are there others like you on this island?"

The question gave Reggie a quizzical look. "Odd. I was certain there was an announcement or something of the like upon my arrival." Reggie could not understand those who did not pay attention to the world around them. Knowledge, after all, is power. Reggie made sure to keep informed at all times. There was the chance, however, that this boy simply did not know anything about an announcement. "Well, in any case," she held out a hand, outstretched toward the questioning individual, "Now you can know my identity as Reggie Mackenzie, American Duelist. And yourself?"

It seemed the duelists from the American Academia were gathering and Manjoume was more than displeased.

“Reggie Mackenzie.” He greeted coldly.

"Is that any way to greet a lady?" Reggie gave a scolding tsk as she folded her arms. "I'm sure your mother taught you better manners than that!" A small giggle escaped her lips as she goaded the boy addressing her. "Oh don't get angry now, I'm just teasing! And don't pretend to be all in a huff now! Not when you were waiting to see me!"

While the teasing was fun now, Reggie knew that this seemingly mere boy had enormous potential and strength. A light tread, careful steps, a laugh here and there would hide her true intent, something that she was all too sure her brother would be incapable of doing. She would need to play this calmly and rationally.

"I've always wondered," she stepped closer to Manjoume, "What's it like to be a such bigshot? All the girls must be fawning over you, dying to get your autograph." Her hands gripped the front of his jacket and proceeded to straighten his collar. "After all, you are an impressive duelist, you and your illustrious Light and Darkness Dragon. Or could it be the rumors are true?" Her head cocked to the side and she made a face not unlike a parent would to a young, distressed child on the verge of tears, "Did you lose the infamous card?"

Legs crossed, head lowered, eyes peering over the cards spread before her, the woman, adorned in white, barely glanced up to see the approaching girl that had addressed her. "Well, if it isn't Fubu-king's little sister," eyes still scanning the array of cards placed upon this outdoor, wooden table, an entertained smile tugged at the corners of her lips.

Sun-gleamed and a gentle breeze passed. After a few silenced moments, only filled by the sound of birds singing their songs for the spring, Reggie tucked a rogue bit of hair out of her face and behind her ear and finally raised her head to meet the gaze of the other. "What brings you to me on such a beautiful day?" A billowing wind picked up a card, fluttering it in the updraft. Without removing her gaze, Reggie's hand snapped it out of the air without a thought. "As I recall, our last real meeting," she placed the card in it's original position, "was me dueling you which, if I remember correctly, ended with your loss." Reggie broke eye contact and once again looked to the cards before her, adjusting each card to return to each respective, perfectly ordered spot. "Is that your reason for coming to me? A rematch?"

Wow, It's been so long and I have no idea what I've been doing while I've been gone. Well, that's not true. I've been planning for college and the like so I've been pretty busy. But at least for now, I'm back!

02 Headcanon

Reggie called David 'Rabbit' when they were children.

He opened his mouth to retort and stopped short.

Pushing roughly past her with a poorly concealed bitter expression, he flipped the card face up and sighed quietly at the confirmation. The card gleamed in the light, mocking him with its untimely appearance.

Monster reborn, a fine draw in just about any other situation.

Facing away from her still, he fished his deck from his pocket and slid the disloyal little spell in with the rest.

“A game of darkness, perhaps,” David snarked under his breath, punctuating the comment by popping a gum bubble louder than necessary. Throwing a lazy cover over his strikes at her was meant to insult her further by not deeming her worthy of a proper front, but he inwardly acknowledged that it was little more than childish.

Falling back on to her bed, he kicked off his shoes - it would be a shame to get the comforter dirty, and he reasoned that it was probably worthwhile to get into the habit - and sifted through his recently adjusted deck. Maybe it was a bad omen that Reggie already found it to be predictable on some level.

There really was only one true way to test if luck was with him; looking to her as if he had just remembered she was there, he smiled invitingly, “I know you have yet to find a worthwhile opponent, how about we settle this in a duel?”

“Something of a warm up, if you will,” he said innocently, already shuffling his cards in preparation.

Reggie let out a scoff of derision.

"It won't be much of a warm up if you lose your soul, dear brother." She looked at him, tauntingly, "Oh, I apologize. If one of us loses their soul." Laughing, mocking him, she sat on the edge of the bed beside him. "You are correct, however. Unfortunately, I have not found anyone worth dueling yet. And it still hasn't changed upon your entrance into my room," she added, taking yet another jab at him.

Sighing, she admitted to herself that she was, indeed, bored. This would be a way to pass the time, as easy as it might turn out to be. "Souls would be a steep ante, however, Brother." She turned to her sprawled out sibling, "what say we use different stakes?" There was only one thing she was interested in on this island: "Information?"

Reggie stood from the bed and walked over to her desk. "These," she tapped a finger on the notebook with freshly written ink between its pages, "are my notes. All duel spirits and those affiliated with them on the island. Our information will be the ante in this duel. What do you say," she snickered, teasingly, "Rabbit?"

There was no sort of risk involved in a duel like this. No matter the result, Reggie would win out in the end. David getting all the duel spirits first? Not a chance. Even if he got her information, her wits far outmatched her partner's. To her, this duel was pointless, just a way to pass the time until achieving her goal.

The night was young and, at this point, whatever stray students that were left wandering the halls shied away at his approach - so it was about time he put his increasingly aggressive approach to rest. It wouldn’t do to gain a reputation that would slow down any further progress or, god forbid, give his less abrasive sister an advantage.

And, as these things went, he found himself at her door wondering why he never quite learned how to entertain himself.

Tapping his foot, he snuck a stick of gum from his pocket and crumpled the foil, depositing it in his pocket.

Her light was on, so she was surely awake in there…writing in her diary or whatever it was that girls did in their spare time. Scoffing, he slipped the mint-flavored treat into his mouth and rattled the handle sharply.

It proved to be locked, but that was something he had grown accustom to. She didn’t take very kindly to brothers barging in on her; it was ridiculous, really. If he wanted in that badly, he’d find a way. Apathetically, he knocked the toe of his boot against the door once.

“Oi, Mac,” Off balance, with his weight resting against the frame, he pulled a card from his deck and held it away so it would be facing her when she inevitably opened up, “Take a shot - monster, spell, or trap.”

The tip of the pen retreated into its base as she clicked its end upon hearing her brother's voice on the other side of her door. With a sigh, she brushed a strand of her hair out of her face. What could he want at this time of night? Maybe he wanted some help. She laughed at the idea of it. No, too good to be true. 

Clapping her notebook shut, Reggie stood, and deliberated the question presented to her. There was no use thinking about a game such as this. Her sibling undoubtedly liked this "test of knowledge" for its lack of necessity for it.

"Spell," she called towards the door. He hand clasped the cold, metallic knob and swung the door open. Her brother stood before her, card in hand and gum snapping between his teeth. "Would you look at that, I'm right." Clasped between his fingers was a spell card, brought up to eye level. Reaching to her belt, Reggie pulled out a card of her own. Grinning, she revealed the card to the brother at her door, "And look here! Magic Jammer. Well isn't that a shame." A chuckle escaped her lips, "You can't win a game of wits nor a game of luck? What can you win, Brother?"

01 Headcanon

Reggie used to have hair that was a lot longer than it is now. She cut it only a little time after her father changed. She won't admit to it, but she wanted to see if he'd notice, or if he'd lost all interest in her life. He didn't notice.

“Well,” she could not let this girl slip from between her fingers, “What say we look for him together? If that’s alright with you?” Desperation was coursing through her. Settle down. Calm down and gain her trust. Reggie knelt to the girl’s level. “Why not search as a team?” A comforting smile grew on her lips. “I’m quite good as searching, I assure you. Plus, I’d really like to duel this relative of yours. What do you say?” She held out her hand for the girl to take it. “It might be fun to go looking for them and then we can talk some more while we do!”

She felt a little bit better at that idea. Maybe if they found someone Reggie was more interested in, Hane could find enough time to slip away back to her card. “Okay, sounds like fun!” she answered taking Reggie’s hand. She silently hoped whatever they talked about was something she could keep up with in a conversation. While the child act would cover for her in most areas, she knew it could only work so far. “We could try starting over at the main building and go from there?” she offered. The main campus was her best shot. Lots of people there. There had to be someone…

A shock traveled up Reggie's spine as contact was made. Skin touched skin, hand touched hand, and Reggie knew. The feeling was definite. There was no question now, this girl was a duel spirit, but how could it be that she had taken a corporeal form? Whatever the answer was, Reggie could not take this girl just yet in her current state. The card was necessary, and Reggie knew that this 'relative' of hers was going to help.

Reggie stood, hand interlocked with the child's, "Let's go then!" She looked down at the girl by her side with a warm smile.

Twigs and branches cracked under foot as they trailed through the forest in search of the boy undoubtedly knowing the secret behind this girl and her card. Questions entered Reggie's mind with every crack of debris under her heels. Who was this girl? How did she get out of her card? Does she even have a card in the first place? Did the boy have anything to do with this? Each question grew the excited smile on her face, curling into one of sheer anticipation and elation. This was looking to be a challenge... A thrilling one.

” Oh, how cute, a pair in uniform.” Yubel sneers sarcastically. ” What do you want?”

What an unusual place to run into a person. This dorm looked abandoned, Reggie had not expected a soul to be around. In the darkness, she could make out the figure of the person before them. The voice suggested a woman, but... there was something off about it.

Then it hit her, a wave of pure darkness and... hatred?. The feeling emanating from this person made it hard to breathe. But... the darkness was drowning something else. Something faint, vague, disguised was hiding in the darkness. Who was this person?

The faint feeling grew stronger as Reggie stepped toward her. That feeling... A duel spirit?! But her earring had not reacted at all? Was she simply mistaken? She needed to be sure of which hypothesis was correct.

"We were just touring the island." The figure became clearer. What?! What kind of person was this? This was a duel spirit, no doubt about that, but why didn't her earring react? She reclaimed her confident and friendly demeanor. Duel spirit or not, gaining this thing's trust was important. "We've come from America, which you might assume from the uniforms. Can I ask," she kept her calm, she could not afford letting her know their true intentions, "what your name might be? And why you're someplace no one else resides? Why be solitary in this abandoned dormitory?"

She had to keep up the facade, the fake interest. Her breath was quickened and short, the thick darkness seeping from this creature was making it difficult to keep a grasp on her calm stature.She needed to act quick, ifhe cut in, this entire thing could blow up in their faces. He would screw it up, that's for sure.

Terra smiled at the newcomer and gave a polite bow. “Hello, my name is Terra Rose. Who might you be?”

“Have you not heard?” Reggie snickered at how uninformed this child was. “I have transferred here with my brother and one other from America. David Rabb is my brother, and I’m certain you’ve heard of the other who is back from visiting America. The Kaiser, Ryo Marufuji.” She looked at the younger girl with expectant eyes. She’s bound to recall now. “Have I jogged your memory now?”

“Oh yeah I heard something along those lines. I think I heard it when I was sketching the school building a few days ago” Terra laughed nervously. “I’m sorry for not recognizing you.”

"Oh, not a problem." There seemed nothing else to say to this girl. She seemed of no importance. With a red-jacket and looking like mere child, there was nothing to be gained from this girl. Reggie turned and waved a brief goodbye that suggested more of a 'shoo-ing' manner. Reggie tucked her hair behind her ear and her heels dug into the ground as she walked away.

"Oh, but wait!" Reggie stopped, footsteps halted. "I forgot to ask," she turned to look back at the young girl, "You haven't by any chance heard about any duel spirits around here?" Not a chance, Reggie thought to herself, this girl knowing what duel spirits are? She smiled to herself, Well, it doesn't hurt to ask. Maybe she knows someone who does.
