nica frowns, just for a moment, and looks away from them. she doesn't want to think to hard about the other's words, or about what they might mean. chucky had said he'd had other plans for her, but she'd never asked what those were. she didn't really want to know what they were, or to dig any further into that. "he talks a lot, but its never anything too concrete." she waves her hand around, thinking to the conversations they've had. "a lot of its just about him. he doesn't seem too complicated on the surface." he stops himself from delving deeper, she thinks. does she want to find out why? maybe.

Nica thinks, giving the answer a little more thought than she might have otherwise. She hadn’t gotten that question in a while, at least not phrased in a way that didn’t seem prone to be used against her at a later date. “Chucky tried that once. It backfired, mainly because he’d gotten stabbed in the upper thigh. I think he forgot that I’m paralyzed, to be honest with you.” She didn’t forget it. It always rested in the back of her mind and it almost made her thankful for the connection she had with Chucky. She pushes a hand through her hair before rolling herself closer to the bathroom. She’d need to wash it, even if it was a small cut, because Tiffany would get on her if she didn’t.

“We don’t try it that often. We’re better when we work together, after all.” Now, that wasn't to say they didn't try pulling shit over on one another when they had that chance. Those opportunities were just a little spaced now, given that they spent a lot of their time trying to work together and survive in the hellscape that Gotham could be in its worst moments.

She thinks a little longer before a wry smile works at the corners of her mouth. "We tried giving the other a hangover once." Nica quickly shook her head, remembering that night and the aftermath. "That was the worst day ever."

Gotham's midwinter burns even as it freezes; as the wind whips at them both, Mary feels the skin beneath her eyes begin to pinch and freeze.

They had climbed out onto the fire escape to watch the construction, see the half-formed cement walls, the curling barbed wire, the painfully bright floodlights of Arkham City clawing its way into the sky over the narrows. Under the grated metal, far below their feet a police car cruises the street, lights off, a pale ghost in the dark. Mary wonders fleetingly — a faintly hysterical note to it even as she taps chewed fingernails, inflamed cuticles against her own cheek — if the whale had ever swept unseen beneath Jonah before rising to swallow him whole.

"Rounding everyone up," she says, instead of voicing her thoughts, "parole or no parole, everyone's going in."

She turns to look at Chucky. Her hair, backlit by the warm square of the living room window, burns a low gold, and her eyes are two dark pinpoints of light. "They set up checkpoints at the bridges. I can get fake IDs, everything." The knowledge that — isolated from her tools, her allies, her every bargaining chip — she will not survive inside Hugo Strange's panopticon-esque experiment has not escaped her.

"Me, you, Tiff, Nica. I can get us all out of the city." Without realising, her hands are tight fists. "I'm not going in there."

He's leaning against the railing, only enough so he can look down below. He's not about to risk getting caught, even as smoke trails from the burning end of the cigarette. He'd been tense and anxious all day, since the news started spreading. Chucky couldn't quite understand why Strange was so obsessed with getting all of them in one place. Was he trying to fix them? There wasn't anything about them that was absurdly wrong, or anything that had qualified them to be treated that way. Well, that was at least how he saw things. Taking a drag of the cigarette, he straightens up and looks at her.

"I get they want to make this shithole of a city safer and crap, but that's not the way to do it." He wasn't sure if there was any way to go about it, or if it was something that would end up proving useless. However, he wasn't wanting to stick around any longer to find out what was going on. He'd packed enough bags before in order to get ready to go out of town -- he'd have to work around some shit again, but there was always a place for him to go to.

His eyebrow raises a little, however, as Mary addresses him. Heart thudding a little faster in his chest, a wry smile works up at the corners of his mouth. "Me, neither. Nica couldn't handle another stint in a place like that." He wouldn't want to handle it, either, but he knows it would be vastly worse for her.

Gaze flicking down, he catches Mary's actions but doesn't say anything. Plucking the cigarette from in between his lips, he exhales the smoke into the night sky where it combines with the haze. "Where do you want to go?"

There are several things that definitely make the teenager worried for her safety, but she's also panicking because she lost track of the twins. Well, she mainly lost track of Glenda. Glen was just following the other around, as was usual, but she'd ended up losing sight of both of them in the maze-like tunnel system. It didn't help that she kept getting a weird feeling while she was watching them, but she was almost able to ignore the weird feeling in her stomach. She wasn't quite able to ignore the fact that it wasn't the most wheelchair friendly environment. She's immensely thankful for the other woman as she's lifted, and Nica definitely makes a note to thank her when they're both to safety.

"I know its somewhere close. Or, it should be," she says, getting a little sheepish. "When the power went out, I was trying to get to the children I was babysitting, but I obviously didn't make it that far." She's going to get the kids some ice cream later. Well, she's going to scold Glenda for a little while, and then she's going to get them some ice cream. I hope to hell Ms. Tilly's not going to get too mad. Its not like she ever meant to lose track of the twins, much less lose her damn chair.

She gives a small sigh. "Last I knew, it was near the spot where the attendants sit. Like, right before the plush border for the playground."
