i have to get serious about elden ring lore at some point because i have SO many thoughts but.

if you've played the game and have payed attention , you know that the spiral motif is one of the most important motifs in the game. if not THE most important motif. it is tightly connected to divinity itself and the divine trees which collect the divine bounty and distribute it again.

did you notice how the lands between themselves are a spiral? from the lowest point of caelid , spiraling upwards to the high peaks of the mountain tops of the giants. i also do think that the shadowlands are originally up in the mountaintop of the giants, and that elphael/the haligtree belongs to the scadutree.

what i'm thinking is just what a grave sin the new order under the greater will and marika must have been. with the banishment of death , and entire cultures and spiritual practices intimately linked to death and rebirth. death was burned in flame , and from the flame new life would rise. the trees had to burn for the sacred bounty , the sap , to be released. sap which was cultivated by the trees absorbing the dead. the burning of the tree , now the original sin , was integral to religious practices previously. which honestly also makes marika so interesting , because her intent for us and her remaining children is to , in some way , return to the ancient world order. a release from stagnation.

i also think that these purposes do find expression in her children. messmer , for example , whose flame is needed to burn the scadu tree.

golden  eyes  look  to  the  skies  for  the  herald  of  a  bygone  age—  the  very  sun  eclipsed  by  the  golden  boughs  of  the  eternal  erdtree.  and  in  his  heart  ,  godwyn  cannot  help  but  bear  a  bitterness.  one  that  is  sure  to  sprout  roots  as  deep  and  storied  as  those  that  sustain  all  who  live.  lowering  his  gaze  ,  gold-spun  lashes  cast  a  shadow  'pon  his  mien—  a  face  which  bears  the  stoic  eternity  of  dragons.

his  hope  had  been  to  avert  his  fate  ,  the  one  predestined  for  him  since  he  formed  from  a  drop  of  the  mother's  flesh.  a  future  unspeakable  in  it's  grim  terror  ,  though  he  knows  not  yet  the  words  with  which  to  name  it.  for  what  is  death  to  those  who  only  know  the  eternal  grace  of  gold?

even  his  pact  with  the  immortal  dragons  could  not  comfort  him  ,  despite  buying  this  tenuous  peace  with  his  blood.  a  sacrifice  that  bore  fruit  ,  for  his  faithful  now  call  to  the  lightning  and  the  storm—  but  for  all  the  wisdom  shared  ,  their  fates  remain  parallel  and  not  intertwined.  he  will  give  his  flesh  when  the  time  comes.

zioron  knows  litte  love  for  the  winged  serpents  ,  for  their  very  form  insults  them  when  their  fire  and  their  wings  have  darkened  the  skies  since  the  conception  of  their  fana.  alas  ,  their  weakness  for  wordplay  has  drawn  them  to  exchange  verse  'pon  verse  with  the  vicious  creatures  ,  trading  song  and  battling  in  the  ways  of  the  tongue.

nestled  against  the  mountainside  ,  their  huge  body  clings  to  the  rocky  surface  ,  furred  paws  spread  wide  for  purchase.  from  a  halo  of  feathers  ,  a  large  pair  of  eyes  stares  unblinking  at  the  creature  below.  motionless  ,  until  their  head  tilts  and  they  crane  their  neck  ,  extending  beyond  it's  initial  length  like  a  bird  of  prey  examining  its  charge.

i hope you all have blessed holidays , whether you celebrate or not! i'd like to thank everyone who is sticking around , even though i've been on a semi-ish hiatus here for a few months. uni and work has been very time-consuming , and my creative brain couldn't handle pouring my brand of insanity into more than one blog.

but as you might have seen , i am slowly easing back into the groove of at least getting things out here occasionally! my dms are always open too- i know i am very slow , but i always love to hear from people.

there  is  solidity  and  safety  in  other  things  as  well  ,  though  of  far  less  enduring  nature.  a  painful  thought  ,  though  ištván  is  nothing  if  not  honest  with  himself.  his  life  does  not  lend  itself  to  stability  ,  despite  his  best  efforts.  subtly  ,  his  balance  shifts  ,  allowing  his  arm  to  align  with  the  warmth  of  erik's  stomach  ,  radiating  through  the  woven  cotton  of  his  shirt.  what  is  one  blasphemy  in  the  face  of  the  many  wrongs  he  had  committed?  there  exist  many  concerns  for  the  ephemeral  ,  pondered  during  the  quiet  hours.  but  he  is  far  too  grounded  in  earthly  matters  to  allow  it  to  guide  his  actions  fully.

❝  will  you  help  me?  ❞  his  voice  cuts  through  the  silence  ,  uninterested  in  its  almost  drawl.  he  is  anything  but.  showing  weakness  takes  a  great  amount  of  calculation—  though  ištván  is  not  weighing  decisions  here.  not  like  he  would  in  any  other  setting.  erik  has  seen  his  scars  ,  which  will  not  heal  all  the  way  even  now  ,  so  many  years  later.  burned  skin  remains  tender  ,  almost  clammy  to  the  touch  still.  ❝  i  have  shown  you  how  to  distill  the  herbs  properly  ,  you  did  remember  to  do  it  right  ,  no?  ❞  he  is  baring  his  neck  to  erik  like  a  dog.  he  is  trusting  erik  ,  to  never  use  his  weakness  against  him.  or  if  he  did  ,  to  be  the  one  to  tear  his  throat  himself.  there  is  a  thrill  to  knowing  that  erik  could.  that  he  has  enough  incentive.  he  had  tried  in  the  past  ,  and  still  ištván  trusts  him.

and  then—  delicately  at  first  and  quietly  ,  a  rising  tide  of  sound  and  sensation.  grass  'neath  her  fingertips  ,  each  blade  gently  kissing  at  her  skin  with  dewy  lips.  a  vast  steppe  of  emerald  ,  rolling  hills  and  blue  skies.  unreal  ,  ethereal  ,  unsettling.  and  the  hills  themselves  hum  ,  a  deep  vibration  knowledgeable  in  the  matters  of  tangible  life.  shepherds  of  the  very  earth.  a  sound  that  rises  rocks  to  the  surface  ,  altering  the  scenery  as  though  painting  a  picture.  with  a  trembling  note  of  bodily  sensation  ,  a  weeping  tear  splits  the  landscape  to  make  way  for  a  gush  of  crystalline  water.

a  breeze  brushes  her  hair  ,  the  joyous  sound  of  laughter  carried  by  the  trembling  howl  of  a  wolf.

like  he  had  stood  there  since  the  conceivable  beginning  of  time  ,  the  dreadwolf  lowers  himself  to  a  low  squat  with  all  the  childlike  wonder  of  a  creature  untouched  by  sorrow  ,  long  fingers  dipping  into  the  bowels  of  a  polished  abalone  shell.  they  come  back  blue  and  dripping—  paint  transferred  unto  the  great  rock  right  by  the  water  in  delicate  patterns.

not  the  dreadwolf.  not  solas  ,  either.  looking  over  his  shoulder  ,  his  frame  blurs  and  becomes  unclear  ,  the  wispy  glow  of  his  true  nature  trembling  like  a  painful  memory.  the  abalone  clatters  ,  paint  carelessly  blotting  against  the  rocks  great  foundation  like  blood  gushing  from  an  artery.

❝  you  are  dreaming.  ❞  there  is  his  voice  ,  the  one  osla  is  familiar  with  ,  and  each  voice  he  has  ever  had  besides.  warm  like  a  halla  wool  blanket  ,  laying  heavy  on  her  shoulders.  ❝  i  wish  ...  ❞  his  voice  trails  off  ,  hands  tangibly  hovering  by  her  shoulders  ere  he  hold  them  ,  angular  face  finding  sanctuary  against  the  curve  of  her  neck.  whatever  he  had  wanted  to  say  ,  it  is  lost  to  the  winds.  ❝  paint  with  me.  dream  with  me—  again  and  again.  and  perhaps  then  i  can  show  you  what  i  could  not  have  told  you.  ❞
