in practice i kinda wanna make each trait rewarding for more than just the skill/career bonuses; like the core interest traits would all have moodlets that help manage different emotions and situations. for example, since i play with occults a lot and think it's cringe that sims seem to universally hate it when vampires or ghosts or werewolves use their powers i have a couple moodlets for Spooky sims that replace or mitigate negative moodlets from different occult encounters

progress update on MySims Interests In The Sims 4 mod: got all the skill + career bonuses plotted, wanna have at least one interaction and one moodlet for each trait before i actually pop open S4S and start making the sausage.

also, liked/hated interests, rather than being visible traits, would ideally be hidden prefs auto-assigned to young adult+ sims (there'd be global or npc-only options) or manually assigned by players (would work a little bit like gender identities in lumpinou's lgbtqia mod in that sims over a certain age can get auto-assigned but under that age you can only assign manually).

bonuses are based on a combination of "obvious for that interest", "inspired by mysims character that has that interest", and "vibes", lmk if you think i should switch them around or if you have an idea for a moodlet/interaction.

also i'm gonna weight all traits and preferences (save for the lovestruck turn-ons/offs bc they're effectively identical to the preferences anyway) for specific interests so if you have any ideas for those by all means lay em on me

so in addition to the trait that defines the sim's "main" interest there would of course be a "Likes [Secondary Interest]" trait that makes them more compatible with sims who have the requisite main interest (among other things? idk i literally just came up with this idea like an hour ago) and a "Hates [Hated Interest]" trait that reduces compatibility with sims that have the requisite interest.

i'd probably define the secondary interest traits by assigning reduced weights to traits that have overlap with "main" interests, based on the secondary interests of canon MySims characters that have certain main interests--so, for example, Dancing and DJ Mixing might have slight weights in favor of Geeky because of DJ Candy, or Video Gaming might have a slight weight toward Spooky because of Vic Vector. hated interests, on the other hand, would have a different set of weights because i wanna avoid the implication that certain interests are diametrically opposed when that is very much not the case in mysims itself
